On July 15th, VOA News reported that the UN Security Council asked the Libyan transitional government to finish preparing the necessary legal and constitutional frameworks to hold national elections in December, due to public concerns that elections could be postponed. The Security Council emphasized the need for free and fair presidential and parliamentary elections that are democratic, transparent, and inclusive of women and youth. 

On July 17th, Alanbat news announced that the Middle East University in Jordan organized a panel discussion on the role of youth in political decision-making in Jordan. A member of the Royal Committee for the Modernization of the Political System, Dr. Yaqoub Nasser Al-Din, said that the Youth Committee is responsible for making recommendations that increase youth political engagement and awareness. He also called for the removal of  obstacles that limit the participation of youth in political life such as lowering the age of candidacy for elections. 

On July 16th, Arab News published an article by Mohammed Abu Dalhoum discussing age candidacy in parliamentary elections in Jordan in light of discussions to lower the age from 30 to 25. Recent deliberations have shown that commission members, senators and specialists are opposed to lowering the age of candidacy due to a belief that youth are politically and economically immature. Contrary to the established belief, Abu Dalhoum argued for lowering the age of candidacy. He emphasized that youth in Jordan have always turned out to vote, they would be appealing candidates to vote for and address corruption and economic struggles. He stressed that this step would overall increase youth engagement in the decision-making process. 

On July 12th, the Middle East Eye reported that a notable Algerian activist called Chems Eddine Laalami was sentenced to two years in prison as two cases were brought against him for his leading role in protests against the previous Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika. The vice-president of the Algerian League for the Defense of Human Rights argued that such legal cases had a negative effect on Algeria’s youth and drives them to political disillusionment and despair. Large numbers of young Algerians had been leaving the country and burning their identity papers once they arrive to avoid being sent back to Algeria.

أفاد موقع أخبار صوت أميركا (فويس اوف اميركا نيوز) في 15 من تموز / يوليو أن مجلس الأمن التابع للأمم المتحدة طلب من الحكومة الانتقالية الليبية الانتهاء من إعداد الأطر القانونية والدستورية اللازمة لإجراء الانتخاباتالوطنية في ديسمبر، وذلك بسبب مخاوف عامة من احتمال تأجيل الانتخابات. وشدد مجلس الأمن على ضرورة إجراء انتخابات رئاسية وبرلمانية حرة ونزيهة وديمقراطية، وشفافة، وشاملة للنساء والشباب.

في 17 تموز / يوليو، أعلنت صحيفة الأنباط أن جامعة الشرق الأوسط في الأردن نظمت حلقة نقاشية حول دور الشباب في صنع القرار السياسي في الأردن. قال عضو اللجنة الملكية لتحديث النظام السياسي الدكتور يعقوب ناصر الدين، إن لجنة الشباب مسؤولة عن وضع التوصيات التي تزيد من مشاركة الشباب وتوعيتهم السياسية. كما دعا إلى إزالة العقبات التي تحد من مشاركة الشباب في الحياة السياسية مثل تخفيض سن الترشح للانتخابات.

نشرت عرب نيوز، في 16 تموز / يوليو، مقالاً بقلم محمد أبو دلهوم يناقش فيه تقليص سن الترشح للانتخابات البرلمانية في الأردن في ضوء المناقشات لخفض السن الترشح من 30 إلى 25 سنة. وأظهرت النقاشات الأخيرة أن أعضاء اللجنة والنواب والمتخصصين يعارضون تخفيض السن لظنهم بأن الشباب غير ناضجين سياسياً واقتصادياً. خلافًا للاعتقاد السائد، طالب أبو دلهوم بتخفيض سن الترشح. وأكد أن الشباب في الأردن دائما ما يتجهون للتصويت، كما تعد صفاتهم الحراكية السياسية ملائمة لطبيعة المرشحين الذين يسعى الشعب للتصويت لهم، وسوف يقدمون حلولا جديدة لمعالجة الفساد والمشاكل الاقتصادية. وشدد على أن هذه الخطوة ستزيد بشكل عام من مشاركة الشباب في عملية صنع القرارات السياسية.

ذكر موقع ميدل إيست آي في 12 تموز / يوليو أن ناشطًا جزائريًا بارزًا يُدعى شمس الدين لعلمي حُكم عليه بالسجن لمدة عامين حيث تم رفع قضيتين ضده لدوره القيادي في الاحتجاجات ضد الرئيس الجزائري السابق عبد العزيز بوتفليقة. وقال رئيس الرابطة الجزائرية للدفاع عن حقوق الإنسان إن مثل هذه القضايا القانونية لها تأثير سلبي على الشباب الجزائري وتدفعهم إلى خيبة الأمل واليأس السياسي. ومن الجدير بالذكر أن أعداد كبيرة من الشباب الجزائري قد هاجروا من البلد وقاموا بحرق أوراق هويتهم بمجرد وصولهم لوجهتهم الجديدة لتجنب إعادتهم لبلادهم.

الاقتصاد وريادة الأعمال

On July 15th, Youm 7 posted a report that the Egyptian Ministry of International Cooperation celebrated the World Youth Skills Day by meeting a number of entrepreneurs. The Minister of International Cooperation stressed the government's keenness to promote and create an environment for entrepreneurship and innovation in Egypt by supporting pioneering ideas that enhance the economy and create job opportunities for youth. The Ministry with the support of Misr Entrepreneurship and Innovation company has invested 275 million Egyptian pounds in 174 firms since its establishment in September 2017.

On July 14th, CNN interviewed Saudi artist Abdullah Qandil, who devised a new method to protect intellectual property of business owners. Kandil argued that non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are ineffective  due to their inability to preserve the intellectual property. Therefore, he created a way to classify works as physical or digital symbols, which would help redefine the artistic tech scene and safeguard the works of artists across Middle East. Kandil established two types of non-fungible tokens that are validated by artists: the non-fungible digital token, which is not connected to any physical assets and is based on a digital piece of art, and the non-fungible physical token, which combines physical and digital assets.

الاقتصاد وريادة الأعمال

في 15 من تموز / يوليو، نشر موقع اليوم السابع تقريرا يفيد بأن وزارة التعاون الدولي المصرية احتفلت باليوم العالمي لمهارات الشباب من خلال لقاء عدد من رواد الأعمال. وأكد وزيرة التعاون الدولي حرص الحكومة على تعزيز وخلق بيئة لريادة الأعمال والابتكار في مصر من خلال دعم الأفكار الرائدة التي تعزز الاقتصاد وتخلق فرص عمل للشباب. استثمرت الوزارة بدعم من شركة مصر لريادة الأعمال والابتكار 275 مليون جنيه مصري في 174 شركة منذ تأسيسها في سبتمبر 2017.

أجرت السي أن أن مقابلة مع الفنان السعودي عبد الله قنديل، يوم 14 من تموز / يوليو، والذي كان قد ابتكر طريقة جديدة لحماية الملكية الفكرية لأصحاب الأعمال. وقال قنديل أن الرموز غير القابلة للاستبدال (NFTs) غير فعالة بسبب عدم قدرتها على الحفاظ على الملكية الفكرية. ولذلك، ابتكر قنديل طريقة لتصنيف الأعمال كرموز مادية أو رقمية، والتي من شأنها أن تساعد في إعادة تعريف المشهد الفني وحماية أعمال الفنانين في جميع أنحاء الشرق الأوسط. وأنشأ قنديل نوعين من الرموز غير القابلة للاستبدال المصدقة من قبل الفنانين: رمز غير مرتبط بأي أصول مادية ويستند إلى قطعة فنية رقمية، والرمز المادي غير القابل للاستبدال، والذي يجمع بين الأصول المادية والرقمية.

On July 17th, Reuters reported that an Iranian young man was killed by gunfire during protests over water shortages in southwest Iran. The man was shot and killed as rioters fired in the air to provoke people, while security forces attempted to break up the protests. Protests have erupted in Iran due to the country's worst drought in 50 years, which has impacted households and several sectors, including agriculture. 

On July 16th, Middle East Online published an article discussing Morocco's "Mossalaha" reintegration program for terrorists, with the author arguing for the effectiveness of the program in protecting youth from the threat of extremism. The article claims that the "Mossalaha" program has transformed many former terrorist convicts through ideological revision in prisons, and sets those prisoners for better reintegration into society. However, the article admits some of the apprehended terrorists only pretend to be deradicalized and exploit the program's helping hand to propagate their extremist ideology.

On July 15th, Arab News reported that 97.5 of 10 to 19-year-olds in the Gaza Strip are demonstrating symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) due to experiencing violent conflicts. Outside of the strip, social media users who monitored the recent violence in Palestine have also experienced worse mental health due to survivor guilt and emotional fatigue, prompted by feelings of injustice and frustration. Studies show high rates of depression in Tunisia, Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq, but a lack of mental health funding and workforce in the Middle East.

في 17 تموز / يوليو، أفادت وكالة رويترز أن شابًا إيرانيًا قُتل بالرصاص خلال احتجاجات على نقص المياه في جنوب غرب إيران. وقتل الرجل برصاصة طائشة عندما أطلق بعض المتظاهرون النار في الهواء لاستفزاز الناس، فيما حاولت القوات الأمنية تفريق الاحتجاجات. اندلعت الاحتجاجات في إيران بسبب أسوأ موجة جفاف تشهدها البلاد منذ 50 عامًا، والتي أثرت على الأسر وعدة قطاعات، بما في ذلك القطاع الزراعي.

نشر موقع ميدل إيست أونلاين في 16 تموز / يوليو مقالاً يناقش برنامج "مصالحة" المغربي لإعادة دمج الإرهابيين في المجتمع، حيث دعا المؤلف إلى فعالية البرنامج في حماية الشباب من خطر التطرف. وزعم المقال أن برنامج "مصالحة" قد غيّر الكثير من الإرهابيين السابقين من خلال مراجعة ايديولوجيتهم في السجون لإعادة دمجهم في المجتمع بشكل أفضل. ومع ذلك، يعترف المقال بأن بعض الإرهابيين المدانين يتظاهرون فقط بأنه تم انتزاع التطرف منهم ويستغلون مساعدة البرنامج لنشر أيديولوجيتهم المتطرفة.

في 15 تموز / يوليو، أفادت عرب نيوز أن 97.5% من الاشخاص بين 10 إلى 19 عامًا في قطاع غزة تظهر عليهم أعراض اضطراب ما بعد الصدمة (PTSD) بسبب معاناتهم من الصراعات العنيفة الحديثة. أما في خارج القطاع، شهد مستخدمو وسائل التواصل تدهورًا في الصحة النفسية نتيجة لما حدث في فلسطين بسبب شعور بالذنب والإرهاق العاطفي الناجم عن مشاعر الظلم والإحباط. وتظهر الدراسات ارتفاع معدلات الاكتئاب في تونس وفلسطين والأردن ولبنان والعراق، بينما يوجد نقصًا في خدمات الصحة النفسية والتمويل والقوى العاملة في المجال النفسي في الشرق الأوسط.

التنمية

On July 12th, The National News reported that the Emirati government plans to use local and international talent to expand its computing sector by signing a deal with Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Facebook and LinkedIn, among others. The deal aims to train and attract 100,000 programmers and coders in the country, enabling people to work independently from any location with low barriers to entry. The deal also intends to equip Emirati youth with the necessary skills for a better future. 

On July 12th, Al Jazeera reported that Iran has launched an Islamic dating application called Hamdam that promotes marriages for its youth. The application is the only state-sanctioned platform, and all other platforms are illegal. Hamdam uses artificial intelligence to find matches and requires users to verify their identity and undertake a psychology test. Once matched, the application introduces the families to one another with the presence of service consultants, who will oversee the matched couple for four years after the marriage. 

On July 16th, Middle East News Agency reported that Egyptian party and youth leaders emphasized that the Dignified Life initiative launched by President Sisi has contributed to changing the economic and social life within the Egyptian villages and countryside in all governorates. The leaders added that the Youth Union of the New Republic announcement will empower young people and provide them with work opportunities across several sectors.

أفد موقع "ذا ناشونال نيوز" في 12 تموز / يوليو بأن الحكومة الإماراتية تخطط لاستخدام المواهب المحلية والدولية لتوسيع قطاع الحوسبة لديها من خلال توقيع صفقة مع غوغل ومايكروسوفت وأمازون، وفيسبوك، ولينكدن، وغيرها. تهدف الصفقة إلى تدريب وجذب 100000 مبرمج في الدولة، مما يتيح للأفراد العمل بشكل مستقل بسهولة. كما تهدف الصفقة إلى تزويد الشباب الإماراتي بالمهارات اللازمة لمستقبل أفضل.

في 12 تموز / يوليو، أفادت قناة الجزيرة أن إيران أطلقت تطبيق مواعدة إسلامي يسمى همدم الذي يروج الزواج لشبابها، وهو التطبيق الوحيد التي تسمح بها الدولة في هذا النطاق. يستخدم همدم الذكاء الاصطناعي للعثور على المطابقات، ويتطلب من المستخدمين التحقق من هويتهم وإجراء اختبار نفسي للعثور على الزوج الملائم. بمجرد المطابقة، يقدم التطبيق العائلات لبعضها البعض بحضور مستشارين للخدمة، والذين سيشرفون على الزوجين المتطابقين لمدة أربع سنوات بعد الزواج.

أفادت وكالة أنباء الشرق الأوسط، في 16 من تموز / يوليو، أن قيادات حزبية وشبابية مصرية أكدت أن مبادرة الحياة الكريمة التي أطلقها الرئيس السيسي ساهمت في تغيير الحياة الاقتصادية والاجتماعية داخل القرى والريف المصري في جميع المحافظات. وأضاف القادة أن إعلان اتحاد شباب الجمهورية الجديدة سيمكن الشباب ويوفر لهم فرص عمل في عدة قطاعات.

On July 17th, Middle East Eye published a report that discussed the recent environmental disasters which has prompted climate change concerns especially among youth, to rise on Turkey’s political agenda. Sea snot, droughts, dead animals including flamingos, and burning plastic waste has threatened several cities across Turkey, with experts warning of impending droughts as 60% of Turkey does not receive sufficient rainfall. However, the article argues that the government has displayed little concern in the face of opposition criticism and has halted efforts to establish a Turkish Green Party. The article claims that the  government has not ratified the Paris climate deal because it believes in its right to be exempt from carbon emissions as a developing nation to develop economically.

On July 12th, Jordan News posted a report discussing UNICEF's concerns of water scarcity in Jordan, which impacts several aspects of life and directly affects children’s health, development and well-being. Jordan is one of the most water scarce countries globally, as the country has below the internationally recognized water scarcity level. The low water levels has affected children's hygiene, student enrolment, attendance, and performance. Climate change and rising water demand has put extra stress on Jordan's limited water levels. The MENA region has the highest chance of all regions for economic loss due to climate related water scarcity, which is expected to be between 6-14% of GDP by 2050. 

On July 17th, the Emirates News Agency published a report on The Solar Decathlon Middle East (SDME), a collegiate competition that challenges students to design, build, operate solar powered houses organized by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA). SDME has been supporting Dubai's 2040 Urban Master Plan to achieve and maintain the first place globally in sustainability, limiting carbon emissions, and preserving the environment.

جائحة فايروس كورونا

On July 13th, Arab News reported that Iraq is witnessing widespread public skepticism in COVID-19 vaccines as thousands of new cases emerge daily, which is raising concerns of an epidemiological catastrophe. The public has demonstrated reluctance in wearing masks and taking vaccines due to misinformation campaigns and mistrust in the government. Iraq has only been able to fully vaccinate 1% of its 40 million population, with 1.4 million recorded cases and 17,000 deaths in total.

فايروس كورونا

أفادت عرب نيوز في 13 تموز / يوليو أن العراق يشهد شكوكًا شعبية واسعة في لقاحات فايروس كورونا بينما تظهر آلاف الحالات الجديدة يوميًا، مما يثير مخاوف من كارثة وبائية. وأظهر الشعب العراقي ترددًا في ارتداء الكمامات وأخذ اللقاحات بسبب حملات التضليل وانعدام الثقة في الحكومة. ولم يتمكن العراق إلا من تلقيح 1٪ فقط من السكان البالغ عددهم 40 مليون نسمة، مع تسجيل 1.4 مليون حالة إصابة و17000 حالة وفاة إجمالاً.
