* According to Rami Khouri, the future of the Arab region is a bleak one for its youth. The World Inequalities Report 2022 was issued last week, and it showed that the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, has the highest level of inequality in the world, with the top 10% richest people controlling 58% of income. Khouri also highlights the high unemployment rates and more importantly, the high underemployment rates, with many young Arabs with an education being forced to take low-paying jobs. While he explains that this is a result of "inefficient, inequitable and often incompetent" management of Arab societies and economies, he also says that "these trends paint a stark picture of the hard years ahead".
* Late on Friday night, Moroccan authorities prevented several young people from entering the city of Ceuta (under Spanish administration) to emigrate to Europe. Several videos posted by Moroccan activists on social networking sites showed security forces chasing a teenager wishing to illegally migrate to Ceuta. Migration has become a huge issue concerning Moroccan youth: in November, Moroccan authorities reported that they had thwarted over 42 thousand attempts at illegal emigration since the beginning of 2021.

* يرى رامي خوري أن مستقبل المنطقة العربية مظلم وقاتم لشبابها. وصدر تقرير عدم المساواة العالمي 2022 الأسبوع الماضي، وأظهر أن منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا بها أعلى مستوى من عدم المساواة في العالم، حيث يسيطر أغنى 10٪ من الأشخاص على 58٪ من الدخل. كما يسلط خوري الضوء على معدلات البطالة المرتفعة والأهم من ذلك ارتفاع معدلات العمالة الناقصة، حيث يضطر العديد من الشباب العرب الحاصلين على تعليم إلى التوجه نحو وظائف منخفضة الأجر. وبينما يوضح أن هذا ناتج عن "الإدارة غير الفعالة وغير العادلة وغير الكفؤة في كثير من الأحيان" للمجتمعات والاقتصادات العربية، إلا أنه يقول أيضًا أن "هذه الاتجاهات ترسم صورة صارخة للسنوات الصعبة المقبلة".
* في وقت متأخر من ليلة الجمعة الماضية، منعت السلطات المغربية عددا من الشباب من دخول مدينة سبتة (تحت الإدارة الإسبانية) من أجل الهجرة إلى أوروبا. وأظهرت عدة مقاطع فيديو نشرها نشطاء مغاربة على مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي قوات الأمن تطارد مراهقا يرغب في الهجرة بشكل غير قانوني إلى سبتة. وأصبحت الهجرة قضية كبيرة تتعلق بالشباب المغربي، ففي تشرين الثاني / نوفمبر، ذكرت السلطات المغربية أنها أحبطت أكثر من 42 ألف محاولة للهجرة غير الشرعية منذ بداية عام 2021.
الاقتصاد وريادة الأعمال
* According to Ismail Hadi, youth migration from the Gaza Strip has become a pressing problem, endangering the lives of many young people who seek a better life in Europe. According to the Ministry of Interior in Gaza, out of the 74 thousand people who have traveled outside of the Gaza Strip since the beginning of this year, only 57 thousand of them have returned. Most people leaving are young gradates, who hold degrees and seek for better job opportunities abroad.
* The Arab Monetary Fund (AMF) recently published the 24th edition of its Introductory Booklet on "Using Artificial Intelligence in Banking Services". It highlights the importance of AI and its usefulness in making financial services more efficient. This new publication is most notably aimed at youth in the Arab region, as it gives them knowledge on important concepts such as financial inclusion, financial technologies, artificial intelligence, and others.
* Moataz Al-khassi, a columnist for Sada al-Balad, said that a number of recommendations that came out of the World Youth Forum and were applied on the ground, most notably the establishment of a Regional Center for entrepreneurship and financing small and micro enterprises, where there was a response from the former Egyptian minister of investment and International Cooperation Sahar Nasr, where the first Regional Center for entrepreneurs and innovation was established in the MENA region. The writer explained that a new law on mobile food units helped young people establish mobile food units and obtain a license to express their proposals in cooperation with the government, and the government helped young people to finance these projects by making installments for their projects.

* بحسب إسماعيل هادي، فإن هجرة الشباب من قطاع غزة أصبحت مشكلة ملحة، وتهدد حياة العديد من الشباب الذين يسعون إلى حياة أفضل في أوروبا. وبحسب وزارة الداخلية في غزة، فإنه من بين 74 ألف شخص سافروا خارج قطاع غزة منذ بداية العام الجاري، عاد 57 ألفًا منهم فقط إلى القطاع. ومعظم الذين يغادرون هم من الخريجين الشباب، الذين يحملون شهادات ويسعون للحصول على فرص عمل أفضل في الخارج.
* أصدر صندوق النقد العربي مؤخرا الطبعة 24 من كتيبه التمهيدي حول "استخدام الذكاء الاصطناعي في الخدمات المصرفية". ويسلط الضوء على أهمية الذكاء الاصطناعي وفائدته في جعل الخدمات المالية أكثر كفاءة. ويستهدف هذا المنشور الجديد بشكل خاص الشباب في المنطقة العربية، حيث يمنحهم المعرفة بمفاهيم مهمة مثل الشمول المالي، والتقنيات المالية، والذكاء الاصطناعي، وما إلى ذلك.
* قال معتز الخاصي، كاتب صحفي يومي في صحيفة صدى البلد، إن عددا من التوصيات التي انبثقت عن منتدى شباب العالم قد تم تطبيقها على أرض الواقع، وكان أبرزها إنشاء مركز إقليمي لريادة الأعمال وتمويل المشاريع الصغيرة ومتناهية الصغر، حيث كان هناك رد من وزيرة الاستثمار والتعاون الدولي المصرية السابقة سحر نصر، حيث تم إنشاء أول مركز إقليمي لريادة الأعمال والابتكار في منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال أفريقيا. وأوضح الكاتب أن قانونا جديدا للوحدات الغذائية المتنقلة ساعد الشباب على إنشاء وحدات غذائية متنقلة والحصول على ترخيص للتعبير عن مقترحاتهم بالتعاون مع الحكومة، وساعدت الحكومة الشباب على تمويل هذه المشاريع من خلال دفع أقساط لمشاريعهم.
النزاعات
* According to Kerry Anderson, migration will be a key issue for the Middle East in 2022, stating that 15% of the world's migrants live in Arab countries. She also mentions the propensity of Arab youth to migrate outside of the region, quoting the Arab youth Survey, that found that 33% of young Arabs either want to emigrate or have considered doing it. She mentions the lack of economic opportunity for the large cohort of young jobseekers as the main reason behind this. She recommends that "governments should prepare for increased migration while also working to provide young people with a sense of stability and opportunity."
* Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) has recently been trying to appeal to the Arab youth, by releasing a video of a Palestinian operation against Israelis. The video shows a run-down and stabbing operation of Palestinian youth against Israelis, an attempt by the organization's leadership to sympathize with Arab youth, especially Yemenis.

* وفقا لكيري أندرسون، ستكون الهجرة قضية رئيسية للشرق الأوسط في عام 2022، مشيرا إلى أن 15٪ من المهاجرين في العالم يعيشون في الدول العربية. كما ذكرت أن الشباب العربي يميل إلى الهجرة إلى خارج المنطقة، نقلا عن استطلاع الشباب العربي، الذي وجد أن 33٪ من الشباب العربي إما يرغبون في الهجرة أو يفكرون في القيام بذلك. وتشير إلى عدم وجود فرصة اقتصادية للفوج الكبير من الشباب الباحثين عن عمل باعتباره السبب الرئيسي وراء ذلك. وتوصي بأن "الحكومات يجب أن تستعد لزيادة الهجرة مع العمل أيضا على تزويد الشباب بشعور من الاستقرار والفرص."
* يحاول تنظيم القاعدة في شبه الجزيرة العربية مؤخرا جذب الشباب العربي، من خلال نشر شريط فيديو لعملية فلسطينية ضد الإسرائيليين. ويظهر الفيديو عملية طعن لشباب فلسطينيين ضد إسرائيليين، وهي محاولة من قبل قيادة المنظمة لكسب وتجنيد الشباب العربي، وخاصة اليمنيين.
التنمية
* The Arab Research and Studies Institute of the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) awarded the Arab Youth Award 2021 to Egyptian, Kuwaiti, and Algerian researchers for their works: "The Future of Joint Arab action institutions", "The future of the Arab world" and "Education of the future in the Arab world and the requirements of its promotion in light of crises and global developments: a study of reality and future aspirations". The overarching theme of the award was the future of the Arab world, as well as its relations with major powers and the future of economic transformations, globalization, and education in the Arab world.
* UNESCO, in collaboration with the Mosul fine arts academy and the Belgian NGent theater company, have given 19 Iraqi film students the opportunity to take part in a four-month program, during which they get to filmshort films. They chose to film their hometown, Mosul, which was partly destroyed during Daesh's presence in the region. Mohammed Fawaz, one of the students, has said "We live in Mosul, we know everything that happened. We want to show it all to the world through cinema."
* On Friday, the Directorate of Youth and Sports in the Egyptian city of Kafr el-Sheikh organized a set of activities, as a part of a program launched by the Ministry of Youth and Sports to promote good morals and fight negative phenomena within Egyptian society. 100 young men and women participated in these activities, which tackled topics such as the spread of rumors and their effect on society, as well as the consequences of bullying. These activities also dealt with common issues within Egyptian families as well as how the youth situate themselves with regards to religion.
* The Generation Amazing Festival took place between December 14th and 18th in Doha under the slogan "All in!", where youth from around the world met and played football. This festival is meant "enable them to harness the power of football as a tool for development and peace". This festival has also strengthened Arab solidarity among the youth.
* Hassan al Thawadi the Secretary-General of the Qatari Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy wishes to inspire youth from across the world to create a lasting legacy for themselves. He spoke at the Generation Amazing Festival 2021, stating how impressed he was at the success of Generation Amazing initiative, launched by the Supreme Committee in 2009 and how this program has contributed to positive change.

* منح المعهد العربي للأبحاث والدراسات التابع للمنظمة العربية للتربية والثقافة والعلوم (الألكسو) جائزة الشباب العربي 2021 لباحثين مصريين وكويتيين وجزائريين عن أعمالهم: "مستقبل مؤسسات العمل العربي المشترك"، و"مستقبل الوطن العربي" و "التعليم في المستقبل في الوطن العربي ومتطلبات النهوض به في ظل الأزمات والتطورات العالمية: دراسة للواقع وتطلعات المستقبل". وكان الموضوع الرئيسي للجائزة هو مستقبل العالم العربي، فضلاً عن علاقاته مع القوى الكبرى ومستقبل التحولات الاقتصادية والعولمة والتعليم في العالم العربي.
* منحت اليونسكو، بالتعاون مع أكاديمية الفنون الجميلة في الموصل وشركة مسرح نجينت البلجيكية، 19 طالبا سينمائيا عراقيا الفرصة للمشاركة في برنامج مدته أربعة أشهر، يمكنهم من خلاله تصوير أفلام قصيرة. واختار الطلاب المشاركون تصوير مسقط رأسهم، الموصل، والتي دمرت جزئيا خلال وجود داعش في المنطقة. وقال محمد فواز، أحد الطلاب: "نحن نعيش في الموصل، نعرف كل ما حدث. نريد أن نظهر كل شيء للعالم من خلال السينما."
* نظمت مديرية الشباب والرياضة بمدينة كفر الشيخ المصرية، يوم الجمعة السابق، مجموعة من الأنشطة ضمن برنامج أطلقته وزارة الشباب والرياضة لتعزيز الأخلاق الحميدة ومحاربة الظواهر السلبية داخل المجتمع المصري. وشارك في هذه الأنشطة 100 شاب وشابة. وتناولت هذه الأنشطة موضوعات مثل انتشار الشائعات وتأثيرها على المجتمع وعواقب التنمر. كما تناولت هذه الأنشطة القضايا المشتركة داخل الأسر المصرية وكذلك كيفية تموضع الشباب فيما يتعلق بالدين.
* أقيم مهرجان الجيل المبهر بين 14 و18 من كانون أول / ديسمبر في الدوحة – قطر تحت شعار "الكل يشارك!"، حيث التقى شباب من جميع أنحاء العالم ولعبوا كرة القدم. ويهدف هذا المهرجان إلى "تمكينهم من تسخير قوة كرة القدم كأداة للتنمية والسلام". كما عزز هذا المهرجان التضامن العربي بين الشباب.
* يرغب السيد حسن الذوادي، أمين عام اللجنة القطرية العليا للمشاريع والإرث، في إلهام الشباب من جميع أنحاء العالم لخلق إرث دائم لأنفسهم. وتحدث في مهرجان الجيل المبهر 2021، مبينًا مدى إعجابه بنجاح مبادرة الجيل المبهر، والتي أطلقتها اللجنة العليا في عام 2009 وكيف ساهم هذا البرنامج في إحداث تغيير إيجابي.
التعليم
* The Arab Youth Center and Rochester University of Technology of Dubai signed a memorandum of understanding with the goal of empowering young people by providing them advanced academic knowledge in advanced technology disciplines and practical training opportunities. Signed at the youth Pavilion at Expo 2020, the MoU identifies five key areas of cooperation: academic education, executive development programs, student hands-on training, consulting and research, and joint seminars and conferences.
* The Faculty of Mass Communication of Cairo University organized the Arab Media Youth Forum, a conference spanning over three days, during which the youth from across the region engaged in discussions and participated in workshops. The discussions focused on the importance of technology, most notably social media, and its impact on the workforce. According to Howayda Mustafa, the Dean of the Faculty, the forum was meant to "educate young people about Arab media issues and qualify them to meet the needs of the labor market and international participation."
* According to Saeed Al Nazri, director general of the Emirati Federal Youth Foundation, Arab youth is strongly connected to their language, as it is an important part of their identity and that it demonstrates the values and achievements of the community. Al Nazri spoke of this during a panel discussion called “The relationship of the youth with Arabic”, as part of the Arabic Language Summit in Dubai. He also stressed UAE’s efforts to promote the importance of Arabic language among the youth, through the establishment of the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center and organizing the Language Summit.
* "Young Arab novelist" was an initiative started by Dr Mahmoud Al Rajabi, the head of the digital media, radio, and television departments at the faculty of media at Middle East University, in Amman. The main goal was to initiate a group of young university students to the art of writing. Sixty young men and women were trained to write a novel and around 10 of them were able to sign contracts with the Turkish publishing house Akyol.

* وقع مركز الشباب العربي وجامعة روتشستر للتكنولوجيا في دبي مذكرة تفاهم تهدف إلى تمكين الشباب من خلال تزويدهم بالمعرفة الأكاديمية المتقدمة في تخصصات التكنولوجيا المتقدمة وفرص التدريب العملي. وتحدد مذكرة التفاهم التي تم التوقيع عليها في جناح الشباب في إكسبو دبي 2020، خمس مجالات رئيسية للتعاون وهي: التعليم الأكاديمي، وبرامج التطوير التنفيذي، والتدريب العملي للطلاب، والاستشارات والبحوث، والندوات والمؤتمرات المشتركة.
* نظمت كلية الاتصال الجماهيري بجامعة القاهرة منتدى شباب الإعلام العربي، وهو مؤتمر امتد على مدى ثلاثة أيام، شارك خلاله الشباب من جميع أنحاء المنطقة في المناقشات والمشاركة في ورش العمل. وركزت المناقشات على أهمية التكنولوجيا، وأبرزها وسائل الإعلام الاجتماعية، وتأثيرها على القوى العاملة. ووفقا لهويدة مصطفى، عميد الكلية، كان الهدف من المنتدى هو "تثقيف الشباب حول قضايا الإعلام العربي، وتأهيلهم لتلبية احتياجات سوق العمل والمشاركة الدولية."
* بحسب سعيد النظري، المدير العام للمؤسسة الاتحادية للشباب الإماراتي، فإن الشباب العربي مرتبط بشكل وثيق بلغتهم، وذلك لكونها جزءا مهما من هويتهم وتدل على قيم وإنجازات المجتمع. وتحدث النظري عن ذلك خلال حلقة نقاش بعنوان "علاقة الشباب مع اللغة العربية"، كجزء من قمة اللغة العربية في دبي. وشدد النظري أيضا على جهود دولة الإمارات في تعزيز أهمية اللغة العربية بين الشباب من خلال إنشاء مركز أبو ظبي للغة العربية وتنظيم قمة اللغة.
* "الروائي العربي الشاب" هي مبادرة بدأها الدكتور محمود الرجبي، رئيس أقسام الإعلام الرقمي والإذاعة والتلفزيون في كلية الإعلام في جامعة الشرق الأوسط في عمان، الأردن. وكان الهدف الرئيسي هو توجيه مجموعة من طلاب الجامعة الشباب إلى فن الكتابة. وقد تم تدريب ستين شابًا وشابة على كتابة رواية وتمكن حوالي 10 منهم من توقيع عقود مع دار النشر التركية أكيول.
البيئة
* The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has recently developed a program called Nabta, which is meant to encourage the youth to start agricultural businesses, with the help of digital agriculture. Digital agriculture refers to the use technology to help increase profits when engaging in agricultural practices. This program will help fill the gaps in knowledge that the youth may have through training activities. These activities will "introduce the concept of digital agriculture and the use of IT within the agricultural value chain."
* Next January, the World Youth Forum will be held in Sharm el-Sheikh, with many items on the agenda, most notably the topics of environment and climate change. While this Forum is said to help strengthen Egypt's role as a leading power in the Middle East, it also puts the youth at the center of discussion. According to forum participant Khouloud Saqr, the forum serves as a platform for young people across the entire world and is "a key means of dialogue and exchange of views and different cultures".

* وقد وضعت منظمة الأغذية والزراعة (الفاو) مؤخرا برنامجا يسمى "نبتة"، والذي يهدف إلى تشجيع الشباب على بدء الأعمال الزراعية، بمساعدة واستخدام الزراعة الرقمية. تشير الزراعة الرقمية إلى استخدام التكنولوجيا للمساعدة في زيادة الأرباح عند الانخراط في الممارسات الزراعية. وسيساعد هذا البرنامج على سد الفجوات في المعرفة التي قد يكون لدى الشباب من خلال الأنشطة التدريبية. وستقوم هذه الأنشطة "بإدخال مفهوم الزراعة الرقمية واستخدامها ضمن سلسلة القيمة الزراعية."
* في كانون الثاني / يناير المقبل، سيعقد منتدى الشباب العالمي في شرم الشيخ – مصر. وستخلل المؤتمر العديد من الأجندة الهامة على جدول الأعمال، وأبرزها موضوعات البيئة وتغير المناخ. في حين يقال إن هذا المنتدى يساعد على تعزيز دور مصر كقوة رائدة في الشرق الأوسط، فإنه سيضع الشباب أيضا في مركز النقاش. وبحسب خلود صقر، مشاركة في المنتدى، فإن المنتدى بمثابة منصة للشباب في جميع أنحاء العالم، وهو "وسيلة رئيسية للحوار وتبادل وجهات النظر والثقافات المختلفة".
