Politics and Political Engagement
* Daraj published a report titled “where are the youth of the January Revolution? Are they still alive?” in which it discussed the fate of Egyptian young activists who held prominent roles in the Egyptian revolution last decade. The report illustrates that the dreams young activists had have become a distant memory, and now they are living in terrible conditions – including being in indefinite detention and/or exhibiting major mental health repercussions. The report adds that many of the young Egyptian activists have seriously thought about committing suicide.
* Palestinian youth are accusing the Palestinian Authority of disenfranchisement and purposefully leaving them out of the political arena. Student unions have played an essential role in Palestinian political life, but students are complaining that their role has been diminished over the last few decades.
* The 14th February Coalition condemned the visit of Israeli President Benny Gantz to Bahrain, and condemned the al-Khalifa monarchy for their relation with the war criminal and reiterated their solidarity with Palestinians.
* The Libyan Prime Minister, Abdel Hamid al-Dabaiba, said that caring for the youth is a primary goal of his government. Dabaiba stressed - during his participation in the activities of the second day of the training program (Rawafd), in which a number of high school students from all regions of Libya participated, the importance of the role of youth in shaping the features of the new Libya that aims to build and renounce war and division. During the meeting, the Libyan Prime Minister answered young people's questions about the political life in the country, their role in the constitution, the mechanism for activating the local administration and their role in making it a success, and the level of higher education in Libya and working to address its problems.

* نشر درج تقرير بعنوان "اين هم شباب ثورة يناير؟ هل ما زالوا على قيد الحياة؟" ناقشت فيه مصير النشطاء الشباب المصريين الذين لعبوا أدوارًا بارزة في الثورة المصرية في بداية العقد الماضي. ويوضح التقرير أن أحلام النشطاء الشباب أصبحت ذكرى بعيدة، وهم الآن يعيشون في ظروف مروعة - بما في ذلك في السجون إلى أجل غير مسمى و / أو يعيشون في خضم تداعيات خطيرة على صحتهم العقلية. ويضيف التقرير أن العديد من النشطاء المصريين فكروا بجدية في الانتحار.

* قال رئيس الوزراء الليبي، عبد الحميد الدبيبة، إن رعاية الشباب هدف أساسي لحكومته. وشدد الدبيبة - خلال مشاركته في فعاليات اليوم الثاني من البرنامج التدريبي (روافد) الذي شارك فيه عدد من طلاب المرحلة الثانوية من كافة مناطق ليبيا، على أهمية دور الشباب في تشكيل ملامح ليبيا الجديدة، والتي تهدف إلى بناء ونبذ الحرب والانقسام. وخلال الاجتماع، أجاب رئيس الوزراء الليبي على العديد من الأسئلة من قبل الشباب الحضور حول الحياة السياسية في البلاد، ودورهم في الدستور، وآلية تفعيل الإدارة المحلية ودورها في إنجاحها، ومستوى التعليم العالي في ليبيا، والعمل على معالجة مشاكلها.
Economics and Entrepreneurship
* Ennab Baladi published a report discussing the rise of nongovernment organizations in Raqqa, Syria. The report illustrates that sources indicate that there are about 200 officially registered organizations in the governorate, most of which focus on raising community awareness and address the negative effects of the war, including drugs and social disintegration. According to workers in local organizations, volunteers in Raqqa are divided into two segments, one of which bears the name “volunteer worker,” and they earn a daily wage of 15 to 25 dollars, but without obtaining a permanent job. As for the second category, it bears the name of a volunteer, and they do not get compensated for their work. They participate in initiatives and projects set up by local organizations, in the hope of employment in the future. According to a report from REACH, 77% of the population of northeastern Syria depends on daily wages to obtain food, and workers need 84 days to earn the monthly cost of securing basic foodstuffs.
* Ministry of Commerce bans the sale of cooking oil to minors amidst food shortages after it was revealed that suspicious parties have been recruiting children to buy staple products in bulk and selling them at inflated prices. This all comes amid food shortages which aren't the first of their kind. These issues are caused by the administrations' policies and is thus considered their main priority.
* In support of the Saudi Vision 2030's mission of empowering youth with opportunities, the Citi Foundation and Education for Employment in Saudi Arabia partnered together to create economic opportunities for Saudi youth. The "Work Readiness Program" to assist Saudis in becoming work-ready and secure jobs that will enable them to contribute to the economy. Youth unemployment rates are high but it is imperative for business to open their doors to young people.
* The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) Youth Council in the UAE held a discussion session on “Youth Power and the Future of Energy” to highlight the capabilities of young people to establish start-up energy companies. The session was attended by 126 representatives of service institutions and energy companies emerging from 19 countries around the world, in addition to a number of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) employees. The DEWA Youth Council organized a “Let's Innovate” forum, with the participation of a group of innovators, young Emirati scientists, and DEWA employees. The event included a series of virtual sessions on innovation, sustainability and artificial intelligence.
الاقتصاد وريادة الأعمال
* نشر موقع عنب بلدي تقريراً ناقش فيه زيادة أعداد وأنشطة المنظمات غير الحكومية في الرقة بسوريا. ويوضح التقرير أن المصادر تشير إلى وجود حوالي 200 منظمة مسجلة رسمياً في المحافظة، تركز معظمها على توعية المجتمع ومعالجة الآثار السلبية للحرب، بما في ذلك المخدرات والتفكك الاجتماعي. وبحسب العاملين في المنظمات المحلية، ينقسم المتطوعون في الرقة إلى قسمين، أحدهما يحمل اسم "عامل متطوع"، ويتقاضون أجرًا يوميًّا يتراوح بين 15 و25 دولارًا، لكن دون الحصول على عمل دائم. أما الفئة الثانية فهي تحمل اسم متطوع ولا يتقاضون أي مبالغ ماليا عوضا عن عملهم، ويشاركون في المبادرات والمشاريع التي أقامتها المنظمات المحلية، على أمل العمل في المستقبل. وفقًا لتقرير صادر عن منظمة REACH، يعتمد 77٪ من سكان شمال شرق سوريا على الأجور اليومية للحصول على الغذاء، ويحتاج العمال إلى 84 يومًا لكسب التكلفة الشهرية لتأمين المواد الغذائية الأساسية.
* حظرت وزارة التجارة بيع زيت الطهي للقصر وسط نقص الغذاء بعد الكشف عن قيام جهات مشبوهة بتجنيد الأطفال لشراء المنتجات الأساسية بالجملة وبيعها بأسعار متضخمة. يأتي كل هذا وسط نقص في الغذاء ليس الأول من نوعه. هذه القضايا ناتجة عن سياسات الإدارات، وبالتالي تعتبر أولويتها الرئيسية.
* دعماً لرسالة رؤية المملكة العربية السعودية 2030 المتمثلة في تمكين الشباب بالفرص، تعاونت مؤسسة سيتي والتعليم من أجل التوظيف في المملكة العربية السعودية معًا لخلق فرص اقتصادية للشباب السعودي. ويعمل "برنامج الجاهزية للعمل" لمساعدة السعوديين في أن يصبحوا جاهزين للعمل وأن يحصلوا على وظائف آمنة تمكنهم من المساهمة في الاقتصاد. وتعد معدلات بطالة الشباب مرتفعة ولكن من الضروري للأعمال التجارية أن تفتح أبوابها للشباب.
* عقد مجلس شباب هيئة كهرباء ومياه دبي (ديوا) في دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة جلسة نقاشية حول "القوة الشبابية ومستقبل الطاقة" لتسليط الضوء على قدرات الشباب على تأسيس شركات طاقة ناشئة. وحضر الدورة 126 ممثلاً عن المؤسسات الخدمية وشركات الطاقة الناشئة من 19 دولة حول العالم، بالإضافة إلى عدد من موظفي هيئة كهرباء ومياه دبي (ديوا). كما نظم مجلس الشباب في هيئة كهرباء ومياه دبي منتدى "لنبتكر" بمشاركة مجموعة من المبدعين والعلماء الإماراتيين الشباب وموظفي الهيئة. وتضمن الحدث سلسلة من الجلسات الافتراضية حول الابتكار والاستدامة والذكاء الاصطناعي.
Conflict
* The Israeli occupation forces launched a campaign of arrests in Al-Amari camp, near Ramallah in the occupied West Bank. The campaign ended with the arrest of 35 men and one injured by police dogs. Some have been released since, but the final number of arrested individuals is still unknown. The campaign took place at 3 a.m. and invaded dozens of houses amid a face-off with the camp's youth.
* The number of Lebanese youth joining the Islamic State has allegedly risen due to the economic crisis in the country. This comes after nine people were killed in Iraq, at least four of them being Lebanese. The Lebanese state has for years targeted Sunni Muslim youth, charging many with suspicion of terrorism, but leaving them without trial. As of 2022, thousands sit in prison with no charge or trial, and those released have their civil rights stripped of them. This led over the years for a rise in recruitment towards groups such as IS, but those joining IS are much less than the ones who joined the rebellion in Syria. The prisoners' lawyer stated that many are being drawn by false job opportunities only to be recruited into terrorist cells.
النزاعات
* شنت قوات الاحتلال الإسرائيلي، حملة اعتقالات في مخيم الأمعري قرب رام الله بالضفة الغربية المحتلة. وانتهت الحملة باعتقال 35 رجلاً وإصابة آخر بالكلاب البوليسية. تم الإفراج عن بعضهم منذ ذلك الحين، لكن العدد النهائي للأفراد الموقوفين لا يزال غير معروف. ووقعت الحملة الساعة الثالثة فجرا واقتحمت عشرات المنازل وسط مواجهة مع شباب المخيم.
* يُزعم أن أعداد الشباب اللبناني المنضم إلى تنظيم داعش قد ارتفع بسبب الأزمة الاقتصادية في البلاد. يأتي ذلك بعد مقتل تسعة أشخاص في العراق، أربعة منهم على الأقل لبنانيون. استهدفت الدولة اللبنانية منذ سنوات الشباب المسلم السني، واتهمت الكثيرين بالاشتباه في الإرهاب، لكنها تركتهم دون محاكمة. اعتبارًا من عام 2022، يقبع الآلاف في السجن دون تهمة أو محاكمة، ويتم تجريد المفرج عنهم من حقوقهم المدنية. أدى ذلك على مر السنين إلى زيادة التجنيد تجاه مجموعات مثل داعش، لكن أولئك الذين ينضمون إلى داعش أقل بكثير من أولئك الذين انضموا إلى التمرد في سوريا. وقال محامي الأسرى إن الكثيرين ينجذبون بفرص عمل زائفة ليتم تجنيدهم في زنازين إرهابية.
Development
* Pal-Think for Strategic Studies won the Middle East and North Africa Freedom Award for 2021. The center stated through its social media that this competition is held by Atlas's network which includes over 500 international organization. Pal-Think went up against dozens of civil society organizations regionally. Pal-Think won this award in before in 2018.
* The Parliament and Civic Education Department in Egypt organized workshops for implementing community initiatives for the “Our Role” program. The community initiatives of the “Our Role” program revolve around 3 main important axes: empowering young female Egyptians, societal consensus towards citizenship, peaceful coexistence, and renunciation of violence, as well as support for refugees and migrants.
* In Jordan, various youth centers conducted workshops and discussion sessions. The Zarqa Youth Directorate participated in the activity of planting forest seedlings in the Phosphate Hills area in Rusaifa, with the participation of 105 young men and women. The event aims to transform untapped spaces into green spaces, in addition to enhancing youth participation in creating a safe and beautiful environment through volunteer development activities, in a way that enhances their role in serving the local community. Additionally, The Al-Wasatiyah Female Youth Center conducted a dialogue session on cybercrime, emphasizing how to deal with cybercrime, its negative impacts, and the problems faced by individuals while using digital devices.
* Kearney Middle East survey revealed that 63% of Saudi residents are willing to pay for high quality Arabic content. A larger percentage being youth. The survey also revealed that 1 in 3 Saudi residents prefer to watch Arabic TV content over international content. This showed that locals are pushing for Arabic content and are willing to pay for it.
التنمية
* فاز مركز "بال ثينك للدراسات الاستراتيجية" بجائزة الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا للحرية لعام 2021. وذكر المركز عبر وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي الخاصة به أن هذه المسابقة تنظمها شبكة أطلس التي تضم أكثر من 500 منظمة دولية. تصد بال ثينك لعشرات منظمات المجتمع المدني في المنطقة. وقد فاز بال ثينك بهذه الجائزة من قبل في عام 2018.
* نظمت دائرة البرلمان والتربية المدنية في مصر ورش عمل لتنفيذ المبادرات المجتمعية لبرنامج "دورنا". وتدور المبادرات المجتمعية لبرنامج "دورنا" حول 3 محاور رئيسية مهمة: تمكين الشابات المصريات، والتوافق المجتمعي تجاه المواطنة، والتعايش السلمي ونبذ العنف، بالإضافة إلى دعم اللاجئين والمهاجرين.
* في الأردن، أقامت مراكز شبابية مختلفة ورش عمل وجلسات حوارية. حيث شاركت مديرية شباب الزرقاء في نشاط زراعة الشتلات الحرجية بمنطقة تلال الفوسفات بالرصيفة بمشاركة 105 شاب وشابة. ويهدف الحدث إلى تحويل المساحات غير المستغلة إلى مساحات خضراء، بالإضافة إلى تعزيز مشاركة الشباب في خلق بيئة آمنة وجميلة من خلال أنشطة التنمية التطوعية، بما يعزز دورهم في خدمة المجتمع المحلي. بالإضافة إلى ذلك، عقد مركز شابات الوسطية جلسة حوارية حول الجرائم الإلكترونية، حيث ركز على كيفية التعامل مع الجرائم الإلكترونية، وآثارها السلبية، والمشاكل التي يواجهها الأفراد أثناء استخدامهم للأجهزة الرقمية.
* أظهر استطلاع كيرني للشرق الأوسط أن 63٪ من المقيمين السعوديين على استعداد للدفع مقابل محتوى عربي عالي الجودة، معظم النسبة كانت من الشباب. وأظهر الاستطلاع أيضًا أن 1 من كل 3 مقيمين سعوديين يفضل مشاهدة المحتوى التلفزيوني العربي على المحتوى الدولي. أظهر هذا أن السكان المحليين يدفعون للحصول على المحتوى العربي ومستعدون لدفع ثمنه.
Education
* UNICEF prepared a bleak report on the reality and future of Lebanon's youth. The report revealed frightening numbers and results for the educational reality of Lebanon's youth, indicating that lebanese youth are struggling to find hope. Lebanese youth have been left with no other option but to bear terrible conditions due to the collapse of the Lebanese pound, COVID-19, and the damage that devastated Beirut and its suburbs due to the explosion of Beirut Port in 2020. The educational sector witnessed a large drop out to engage in informal or even low-paid work. If this educational dropout is not stopped, there will be grave social and psychological consequences for young people. Statistics show that 3 out of every 10 young men and women in Lebanon have dropped out of education in order to find job opportunities. About 41% of young people feel that their only chance is to look for opportunities abroad.
* Bahraini school students participated in the National Cyber Defense Competition. They were the only team from the Middle East to participate in this competition. The competition puts high school and middle school students in the position of newly hired IT professionals tsked with managing the network of a small company.

* أعدت اليونيسف تقريراً قاتماً عن واقع ومستقبل شباب لبنان. وكشف التقرير عن أرقام ونتائج مخيفة للواقع التربوي لشباب لبنان، ما يشير إلى أن الشباب اللبناني يكافح من أجل إيجاد الأمل. لم يبق أمام الشباب اللبناني سوى تحمل ظروف مروعة بسبب انهيار الليرة اللبنانية، وجائحة فايروس كورونا، والأضرار التي عصفت ببيروت وضواحيها جراء انفجار مرفأ بيروت عام 2020. وشهد القطاع التربوي عددا كبيرا من المتسربين للانخراط في العمل غير الرسمي أو حتى بأجر منخفض. إذا لم يتم إيقاف هذا التسرب التعليمي، فستكون هناك عواقب اجتماعية ونفسية وخيمة على الشباب. وتشير الإحصاءات إلى أن 3 من كل 10 شباب وشابات في لبنان قد تسربوا من التعليم من أجل العثور على فرص عمل. ويشعر حوالي 41٪ من الشباب أن فرصتهم الوحيدة هي البحث عن فرص في الخارج.
* شارك طلاب مدرسيين في البحرين في المسابقة الوطنية للدفاع السيبراني. كانوا الفريق الوحيد من الشرق الأوسط الذي شارك في هذه المسابقة. تضع المسابقة طلاب المدارس الثانوية والمتوسطة في موقع محترفي تكنولوجيا المعلومات المعينين حديثًا مع إدارة شبكة شركة صغيرة.
Environment
* As part of the MedWet initiative, the Ma'an Youth Society for the Conservation of the Environment celebratedthe “World Wetlands Day 2022”, under the slogan “Working for Wetlands... is work for people and nature”, mobilizing its efforts to enhance public awareness of the importance of wetlands for the environment and their vital functions for the planet. The celebration included participants from universities and schools, who engaged in voluntary campaigns to preserve the environment, manage natural resources sustainably, and take urgent action on climate change to support the needs of the present and future generations.

* كجزء من مبادرة MedWet، احتفلت جمعية معان الشبابية للحفاظ على البيئة "باليوم العالمي للأراضي الرطبة 2022"، تحت شعار "العمل من أجل الأراضي الرطبة ... عمل للناس والطبيعة"، وحشدت جهودها من أجل تعزيز الوعي العام بأهمية الأراضي الرطبة للبيئة ووظائفها الحيوية لكوكب الأرض. وشمل الاحتفال مشاركين من الجامعات والمدارس، الذين شاركوا في حملات تطوعية للحفاظ على البيئة وإدارة الموارد الطبيعية بشكل مستدام، واتخاذ إجراءات عاجلة بشأن تغير المناخ لدعم احتياجات الأجيال الحالية والمستقبلية.
COVID-19
* Palestinians are facing a winter Coronavirus surge driven by the omicron variant, with over 70,000 active cases in Palestine, more than twice the number at the height of previous surges. The real figure is likely much higher, as omicron tends to cause milder symptoms, especially in vaccinated patients, and many people are testing at home. Vaccination remains a major problem in Palestine, as the occupation makes access to vaccines difficult. Rights groups said Israel was obliged to provide vaccines as an occupying power. Israel denied having any obligation.
فايروس كورونا
* يواجه الفلسطينيون ارتفاعا في حالات الإصابة بفيروس كورونا خلال الشتاء، وتحديدا متحور أوميكرون، حيث أن هناك 70 ألف حالة نشطة في فلسطين، أي أكثر من ضعف العدد في ذروة الموجات السابقة، ومن المحتمل أن يكون الرقم الحقيقي أعلى من ذلك بكثير، حيث يميل الأوميكرون إلى التسبب في أعراض أكثر اعتدالًا، خاصة في المرضى الذين تلقوا اللقاح، كما أن العديد من الأشخاص يقومون بالفحص في منازلهم. ولا يزال التطعيم مشكلة رئيسية في فلسطين، حيث أن وجود الاحتلال يصعب على الفلسطينيين تلقي اللقاحات. وقالت جماعات حقوقية إن إسرائيل ملزمة بتوفير اللقاحات كقوة محتلة، ولكن نفت إسرائيل وجود أي التزام.
