Politics and Political Engagement

* The Arab Reform Initiative (ARI) released two reports entitled: "Youth political participation in post-2011 Tunisia: Exploring the impact of the youth quota system through the prism of local municipal councilors" and “Youth perceptions of politics in Tunisia: Giving the floor to millennials and Gen Z post-2011”. These reports are the outcome of a project conducted by ARI from January 2021 to June 2022 in partnership with Tunisian associations “We Start” and “Houmetna”. The project looking to consolidate the political participation of youth in the governorates of Kairouan, Kasserine, and Beja. This work comes in a context where youth trust in the political system is low, with 8.8% in rural areas and 31.1% in urban areas, according to the World Bank's 2014 Youth Report. This lack of trust is reflected in the low representation of young people in political spheres: the average age of the 2019-2024 parliament is 51.8 years, according to data from Marsad Majles. These trends feed and reinforce each other, leaving an increasingly small space for young people in politics. "These reports seek to understand why young Tunisians particularly those from regions that have been marginalized have not found their way to the political space that opened up after the 2011 revolution," said Zied Boussen, a research fellow at ARI. 

* The director of the Balqa Youth Directorate in Jordan indicated, in a joint meeting with Balqa Youth Initiative (Initiators), that Jordanian universities are the most appropriate environment for enhancing political parties’ recruitment of youth. The director, Mahmoud Al-Dabbas, added that the modern version of Jordan from a political point of view encompasses three components, namely parties, women, and youth, especially that 41 seats have been allocated to political parties in the next parliament at the level of the national list. He stressed that women and youth are key partners in establishing political parties according to the Parties Law, as well as key partners in forming party electoral lists under the Parliament’s Election Law. He also stated that the state supports the political empowerment of women more than it supports youth’s, as the state allocated seats in the electoral law for women in each local electoral district. It also stipulated the presence of two women among the first six candidates in the party list formed at the level of the electoral district. On the other hand, the state did not allocate a similar quota for youth. Instead, it was satisfied with the condition that there be one candidate from among the young people under the age of thirty-five in any party list formed at the level of the general district among the first five candidates in the list.

* The Mayor of Greater Irbid Municipality in Jordan, Dr. Nabil Al-Kofahi, met a group of young people with the aim of involving them in the local decision-making process. During the meeting, Al-Kofahi announced the establishment of a special fund to support youth initiatives, which will be fully funded by the private sector, including the establishment of an incubator for entrepreneurial ideas.

* Ilham Al-Talibi wrote an article for Independent Arabia illustrating the conditions of Moroccan and Algerian migrants in Europe. She argues that despite their mutual hate speech toward one another, they become united by their mutual struggles. She says this is even more prevalent among migrants who live in constant fear of deportation, as Moroccan and Algerian youth who are in Germany without legal residence are forced to accept any work, which exposes them to exploitation by some employers, who take advantage of their situation.

* أصدرت مبادرة الإصلاح العربي تقريرين بعنوان: "المشاركة السياسية للشباب في تونس ما بعد 2011: استكشاف تأثير نظام الكوتا الشبابية من منظور أعضاء المجالس البلدية المحلية" و "تصورات الشباب للسياسة في تونس: إعطاء الأرضية لجيل الألفية وجيل Z بعد 2011". هذه التقارير هي حصيلة مشروع أجرته مبادرة الإصلاح العربي في الفترة من يناير 2021 إلى يونيو 2022 بالشراكة مع الجمعيات التونسية "نبدأ" و "حمتنة". ويهدف المشروع إلى تعزيز المشاركة السياسية للشباب في ولايات القيروان والقصرين والبجا. ويأتي هذا العمل في سياق تكون فيه ثقة الشباب في النظام السياسي منخفضة، مع 8.8٪ في المناطق الريفية و31.1٪ في المناطق الحضرية، وفقًا لتقرير الشباب لعام 2014 الصادر عن البنك الدولي. وينعكس انعدام الثقة هذا في التمثيل المنخفض للشباب في المجالات السياسية: متوسط عمر البرلمان 2019-2024 هو 51.8 سنة، وفقًا لبيانات مرصد مجلس. هذه الاتجاهات تغذي وتعزز بعضها البعض، مما يترك مساحة صغيرة بشكل متزايد للشباب في السياسة. وقال زياد بوسن، الباحث في مبادرة الإصلاح العربي، "تسعى هذه التقارير إلى فهم سبب عدم وصول الشباب التونسي، ولا سيما من المناطق المهمشة، إلى المجال السياسي الذي انفتح بعد ثورة 2011".

* أشار مدير مديرية شباب البلقاء في الأردن، في لقاء مشترك مع مبادرة شباب البلقاء (مبادرون)، إلى أن الجامعات الأردنية هي البيئة الأنسب لتعزيز تجنيد الأحزاب السياسية للشباب. وأضاف مدير شباب البلقاء محمود الدباس، أن الأردن الجديد من وجهة نظر سياسية يضم ثلاث مكونات وهي الأحزاب والمرأة والشباب، وخاصة أنه تم تخصيص 41 مقعدا للأحزاب السياسية في البرلمان المقبل على المستوى. من القائمة الوطنية. وأكد أن النساء والشباب شركاء أساسيون في تأسيس الأحزاب وفق قانون الأحزاب، كما أنهم شركاء أساسيون في تشكيل القوائم الانتخابية الحزبية بموجب قانون الانتخابات النيابي. وذكر أن الدولة تدعم التمكين السياسي للمرأة أكثر من دعمها للشباب، حيث تخصص الدولة مقاعد في قانون الانتخابات للمرأة في كل دائرة انتخابية محلية. كما نص على وجود امرأتين من بين أول ستة مرشحين في القائمة الحزبية المشكلة على مستوى الدائرة الانتخابية. وفي المقابل، لم تخصص الدولة حصة مماثلة للشباب. وبدلاً من ذلك، اكتفى المشرع بشرط وجود مرشح واحد من بين الشباب دون سن الخامسة والثلاثين في أي قائمة حزبية يتم تشكيلها على مستوى الدائرة العامة من بين المرشحين الخمسة الأوائل في القائمة.

* التقى رئيس بلدية إربد الكبرى في الأردن الدكتور نبيل الكوفحي بمجموعة من الشباب بهدف إشراكهم في عملية صنع القرار المحلي. وأعلن الكوفحي خلال الاجتماع عن تأسيس صندوق خاص لدعم المبادرات الشبابية سيمول بالكامل من القطاع الخاص بما في ذلك إنشاء حاضنة لأفكار ريادة الأعمال.

* كتبت إلهام الطالبي مقالاً في صحيفة "إندبندنت عربية" توضح فيه أوضاع المهاجرين المغاربة والجزائريين في أوروبا. وقالت الطالبي أنه على الرغم من خطاب الكراهية المتبادل بينهما، إلا أنهما توحدهما كفاحهما المتبادل. وتقول إن هذا أكثر انتشارًا بين المهاجرين الذين يعيشون في خوف دائم من الترحيل، حيث يُجبر الشباب المغربي والجزائري المتواجد في ألمانيا دون إقامة قانونية، على سبيل المثال، على قبول أي عمل، مما يعرضهم للاستغلال من قبل بعض أصحاب العمل، الذين يستغلون أوضاعهم الصعبة.

Economics and Entrepreneurship

* In a meeting with the youth of the “We Are All Jordan Youth Authority”, the youth arm of the King Abdullah II Fund for Development in the Balqa Governorate, the Director General of the Development and Employment Fund stressed on the need to shift from traditional employment to encouraging entrepreneurship and self-employment to provide job opportunities for young men and women. The director gave a detailed explanation about the programs offered by the fund and its role in financing small and medium projects that provide job opportunities for young people in the governorates. 

* The “Tinghirine Students Space Association” is organizing the first edition of the “Creativity Hackathon” with the aim of catering to the youth of Tinghir to support attractive projects. This would involve students in designing the future of many vital sectors in Morocco. The event, which will be held in Tinghir on 15, 16 and 17 July, aims to promote the culture of entrepreneurship among the youth of the region to create potential job opportunities, open bridges of communication between professionals, students and officials, and encourage youth initiatives in the city. In this regard, Omar Ohsain, coordinator of the first edition of the “Creativity Hackathon” in Tinghir, said that “the announced event was initiated by the members of the association to encourage entrepreneurial creativity among young people, in line with the country's general trend of promoting entrepreneurship in Morocco."

* Mahmoud Hussein, Chairman of the Youth and Sports Committee in the Egyptian House of Representatives, said that the draft state budget for the fiscal year 2022/2023 had been prepared in extremely difficult circumstances, in light of the challenges faced by the Egyptian state due to the conditions of the Coronavirus and then the Russian-Ukrainian war. Hussein confirmed that the Committee issued several recommendations regarding the youth and sports sectors during the discussion of its budget.

* A training, guidance, and counseling lecture was held at the Capital Youth Center in Jordan. The lecture, titled “Designing Youth Initiatives", aimed to empower young people with entrepreneurship and creativity skills.

* 66 young men and women participate in the activities of the Youth Lab, which was launched by the Ajman Youth Council and the Ajman Creative Center – UAE. The activities of the lab include discussion sessions that reflect on the experiences of young people, as well as an exhibition of the products of small business owners and young entrepreneurs. It includes the presentation of 29 projects for young entrepreneurs and 22 talents in various fields, in addition to 22 specialists in training programs to hone the skills of young people. The lab looks to provide a complete experience for young people to communicate and enrich their experiences through training workshops, awareness lectures and discussion panels that shed light on youth issues.

* Ghada Khalil, Director of the Rowad 2030 Project of the Egyptian Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, said that the Startup Forum provides a golden opportunity for young people to present their ideas and benefit from the experiences of young entrepreneurs present at the forum. Khalil added that the success stories of young entrepreneurs that will be presented at the forum will serve as a strong motivation for every young man who has an idea, even if it is simple and small, to develop and work on it to become an entrepreneur. Khalil added that one of the objectives of the forum is to network between entrepreneurs and funding agencies, and to provide an opportunity to talk about the field of entrepreneurship, especially since the forum includes many experts in this field, as well as to support the field of entrepreneurship and financing start-ups, and the role of the government, the private sector and organizations in supporting Entrepreneurship system.

الاقتصاد وريادة الأعمال

* أكد المدير العام لصندوق التنمية والتشغيل في لقاء مع شباب مؤسسة "كلنا شباب الأردن" الذراع الشبابية لصندوق الملك عبد الله الثاني للتنمية في محافظة البلقاء، على ضرورة التحول من العاملة التقليدية إلى التشغيل وتشجيع ريادة الأعمال والعمل الحر لتوفير فرص عمل للشباب والشابات الأردنيين. وقدم المدير شرحا مفصلا عن البرامج التي يقدمها الصندوق ودوره في تمويل المشاريع الصغيرة والمتوسطة التي توفر فرص عمل للشباب في المحافظات.

* تنظم "جمعية فضاء الطلاب تنغيرين" النسخة الأولى من "هاكاثون الإبداع" بهدف تلبية احتياجات شباب تنغير لدعم المشاريع الجذابة. سيشرك ذلك الطلاب في تصميم مستقبل العديد من القطاعات الحيوية في المغرب. يهدف الحدث، الذي سيعقد في تنغير في 15 و 16 و 17 يوليو، إلى تعزيز ثقافة ريادة الأعمال بين شباب المنطقة لخلق فرص عمل محتملة، وفتح جسور التواصل بين المهنيين والطلاب والمسؤولين، وتشجيع الشباب مبادرات في المدينة. وفي هذا الصدد، قال عمر أحسين، منسق النسخة الأولى من "هاكاثون الإبداع" في تنغير، إن الحدث المعلن عنه بدأ من قبل أعضاء الجمعية، مع شركائنا، لتشجيع الإبداع الريادي بين الشباب، تماشيا مع الاتجاه العام للبلاد لتشجيع ريادة الأعمال في المغرب ".

 

* قال محمود حسين، رئيس لجنة الشباب والرياضة بمجلس النواب المصري، إن مشروع الموازنة العامة للدولة للعام المالي 2022/2023 تم إعداده في ظروف بالغة الصعوبة، وذلك في ظل التحديات التي تواجهها الدولة المصرية بسبب ظروف فيروس كورونا ثم الحرب الروسية الأوكرانية. وأكد حسين أن لجنة الشباب أصدرت عدة توصيات بخصوص قطاعي الشباب والرياضة خلال مناقشة ميزانيتها.

* تم عقد محاضرة تدريبية وإرشادية في مركز شباب العاصمة في الأردن. وهدفت المحاضرة التي حملت عنوان "تصميم المبادرات الشبابية" إلى تمكين الشباب من مهارات ريادة الأعمال والإبداع.

 

* شارك 66 شاب وشابة في فعاليات مختبر الشباب الذي أطلقه مجلس شباب عجمان ومركز عجمان للإبداع – في الإمارات العربية المتحدة. وتشمل أنشطة المختبر جلسات نقاشية تعكس تجارب الشباب، بالإضافة إلى معرض لمنتجات أصحاب الأعمال الصغيرة ورواد الأعمال الشباب. ويتضمن عرض 29 مشروعًا لرواد الأعمال الشباب و22 موهبة في مختلف المجالات، بالإضافة إلى 22 متخصصًا في البرامج التدريبية لصقل مهارات الشباب. ويسعى المختبر أيضا إلى توفير تجربة كاملة للشباب للتواصل وإثراء تجاربهم من خلال ورش العمل التدريبية والمحاضرات التوعوية وحلقات النقاش التي تلقي الضوء على قضايا الشباب.

* قالت غادة خليل، مديرة مشروع رواد 2030 بوزارة التخطيط والتنمية الاقتصادية المصرية، إن منتدى الشركات الناشئة يوفر فرصة ذهبية للشباب لعرض أفكارهم والاستفادة من تجارب رواد الأعمال الشباب الحاضرين في المنتدى. وأضافت خليل أن قصص نجاح رواد الأعمال الشباب التي ستعرض في المنتدى ستكون بمثابة دافع قوي لكل شاب لديه فكرة، حتى لو كانت بسيطة وصغيرة، لتطويرها والعمل عليها ليصبح رائد أعمال. وأضافت خليل أن من أهداف الملتقى التشبيك بين رواد الأعمال ووكالات التمويل، وإتاحة الفرصة للحديث عن مجال ريادة الأعمال، خاصة وأن الملتقى يضم العديد من الخبراء في هذا المجال، بالإضافة إلى دعم مجال ريادة الأعمال وتمويل المشاريع الناشئة، ودور الحكومة والقطاع الخاص والمنظمات في دعم نظام ريادة الأعمال.

Conflict

* UN Secretary-General António Guterres’ spoke to the Ad Hoc Committee of the General Assembly for the Announcement of Voluntary Contributions to the UNRWA. He reiterated that UNRWA is vital in supporting those in need and supporting UNRWA is important to ensure it delivers on its mandate to the Palestinian refugees. He also added that investing in UNRWA means investing in stability for the region; it means investing in the economic and social well-being of Palestine refugees and advancing the Sustainable Development Goals; it means investing in the future through education of children and youth, girls and boys, young women and men; and it means honoring the commitment of the international community to Palestine refugees and their rights until a just and durable political solution is found.

* Khaleej Times published a report illustrating that Captagon has become a menace in Syria, Jordan, and Lebanon, especially considering the lack of de-addiction infrastructure. According to a Newlines Institute study, Captagon trade is a rapidly growing illicit economy in the Middle East and the Mediterranean. The drug’s production patterns in Syria have shifted “from smaller, fragmented operations in rebel-held areas to industrial, containerized operations.” Captagon has even been described as “a new Syrian-Iranian weapon that threatens the region.” The lack of a functioning regional mechanism to deal with the challenge collectively makes it difficult to disrupt the criminal networks involved in the drug trade. The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) estimates that approximately 36.3 million people need treatment for drug use disorders (DUDs) globally, yet only one in eight in need has access to treatment. The report adds that Jordan and Syria cannot see eye-to-eye on the subject of drug smuggling. The two sides have no choice but to pool their resources, use negotiation skills, find collective solutions, and address the flow of funds because drugs and terror seem to be feeding off each other.

* According to a report by U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Iran has executed more than 100 people, including minors and women, within a space of three months in 2022. The report, which was presented at the U.N. Human Rights Council in Geneva by its deputy human rights chief Nada Al-Nashif, said that the numbers were on the rise and the reasons for executions were becoming more arbitrary. “While 260 individuals were executed in 2020, at least 310 individuals were executed in 2021, including at least 14 women,” Al-Nashif said. “At least 105 people were executed, many of whom belonged to minority groups” between January 1 and March 20 of this year.

* The Youth Training and Rehabilitation Center concluded a peace and gender building course in Aden, Yemen. 20 young men and women participated in the course within the framework of the youth training and rehabilitation program, implemented by the center of the Ministry of Youth and Sports in partnership with Youth Without Borders and funded by UNFPA. The course aimed to provide young people with a set of skills and abilities to protect and empower young people and raise their capabilities to become effective and influential in society by providing them with quality programs designed according to their needs.

* The United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) convened young civil society leaders from the MENA region in an intergenerational dialogue with key stakeholders to discuss mechanisms to prevent violent extremism (PVE) in the region through sport-based activities. In this context, UNAOC provided a platform for young leaders from Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, and Qatar to lend their voices to conversations on PVE policymaking, grassroots sports for development as well as the role of athletes and sporting events in promoting inclusive and diverse societies.

النزاعات

* تحدث الأمين العام للأمم المتحدة أنطونيو غوتيريش أمام اللجنة المخصصة للجمعية العامة للإعلان عن التبرعات الطوعية لوكالة الأمم المتحدة لإغاثة وتشغيل اللاجئين الفلسطينيين في الشرق الأدنى (أونروا). وأكد أن الأونروا حيوية في دعم المحتاجين، وأن دعم الأونروا مهم لضمان وفائها بولايتها للاجئين الفلسطينيين. وأضاف أن الاستثمار في الوكالة يعني الاستثمار في استقرار المنطقة؛ ويعني أيضا الاستثمار في الرفاه الاقتصادي والاجتماعي للاجئين الفلسطينيين والنهوض بأهداف التنمية المستدامة؛ كما يعني الاستثمار في المستقبل من خلال تعليم الأطفال والشباب والفتيات والفتيان والشابات والرجال؛ ويعني احترام التزام المجتمع الدولي تجاه لاجئي فلسطين وحقوقهم حتى يتم إيجاد حل سياسي عادل ودائم.

* نشرت صحيفة الخليج تايمز تقريراً يوضح أن الكبتاغون أصبح يمثل تهديداً في سوريا والأردن ولبنان، خاصة بالنظر إلى عدم وجود بنية تحتية للتخلص من الإدمان. وفقًا لدراسة أجراها معهد "نيوزلاين"، فإن تجارة الكبتاغون هي اقتصاد غير مشروع سريع النمو في منطقة الشرق الأوسط والبحر الأبيض المتوسط. وتحولت أنماط إنتاج الدواء في سوريا " من عمليات صغيرة ومجزأة في المناطق التي يسيطر عليها المتمردون إلى عمليات صناعية ممأسسة." حتى أن الكبتاغون وُصف بأنه "سلاح سوري إيراني جديد يهدد المنطقة". إن الافتقار إلى آلية إقليمية فاعلة للتعامل مع التحدي بشكل جماعي يجعل من الصعب تعطيل الشبكات الإجرامية الضالعة في تجارة المخدرات. يقدر مكتب الأمم المتحدة المعني بالمخدرات والجريمة أن ما يقرب من 36.3 مليون شخص يحتاجون إلى العلاج من اضطرابات تعاطي المخدرات على مستوى العالم، ومع ذلك فإن واحدًا فقط من كل ثمانية أشخاص بحاجة إلى العلاج. ويضيف التقرير أن الأردن وسوريا لا يمكنهما التوفيق بين موضوع تهريب المخدرات. لا خيار أمام الطرفين سوى تجميع مواردهما واستخدام مهارات التفاوض وإيجاد حلول جماعية ومعالجة تدفق الأموال لأن المخدرات والإرهاب يبدو أنهما يتغذيان على بعضهما البعض.

* اختتم مركز تدريب وتأهيل الشباب دورة السلام وبناء النوع الاجتماعي في عدن، اليمن. وشارك في الدورة 20 شابا وشابة في إطار برنامج تدريب وتأهيل الشباب الذي ينفذه مركز وزارة الشباب والرياضة بالشراكة مع منظمة شباب بلا حدود وبتمويل من صندوق الأمم المتحدة للسكان. هدفت الدورة إلى تزويد الشباب بمجموعة من المهارات والقدرات لحماية وتمكين الشباب ورفع قدراتهم ليصبحوا فاعلين ومؤثرين في المجتمع من خلال تزويدهم ببرامج نوعية مصممة وفقاً لاحتياجاتهم.

* دعا تحالف الأمم المتحدة للحضارات قادة المجتمع المدني الشباب من منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا في حوار بين الأجيال مع أصحاب المصلحة الرئيسيين لمناقشة آليات منع التطرف العنيف في المنطقة من خلال الأنشطة الرياضية. ففي هذا السياق، قدم تحالف الأمم المتحدة لتحالف الحضارات منبرًا للقادة الشباب من البحرين ومصر والعراق ولبنان وليبيا والمغرب وقطر لإبداء أصواتهم في المحادثات حول وضع سياسات منع التطرّف العنيف، والرياضة الشعبية من أجل التنمية، فضلاً عن دور الرياضيين والأحداث الرياضية. في تعزيز المجتمعات الشاملة والمتنوعة.

Development

* Mamdouh Al-Wali wrote an article for Aljazeera highlighting the challenges pertaining to the youth sector in Egypt. He stated that the Ministry of Youth is more interested in sports than in youth. Although the budget of the National Youth Council reached 1.375 billion Egyptian pounds in the fiscal year 2020/2021, 60% of these allocations went to construction, 30% to support youth centers, and 8% for workers’ wages, leaving 1% for activities. He indicated that 37% of Egyptian villages do not currently have a youth center. He added that the Statistics Authority does not publish data as much as it used to, which made it impossible to identify the reality of the Egyptian youth, including the rates of engaging in illegal activities such as prostitution, drug trafficking, smuggling of antiquities, and arms trade, among others. 

* Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Riyadh Region (Saudi Arabia), inaugurated a voluntary initiative of the Youth Committee of the Consultative Region, manifested in launching a “Save Account” on the National Platform for Voluntary Work.

* The Ummah Youth Center, in Palestine, launched a training program entitled “Digital Media and Content Creation”. The program aims to provide the trainees with the skills of creating digital content through practical application and digital publishing through social media platforms. It also looks to refine the media skills of young people to invest their efforts and energies to serve the Palestinian cause by promoting Palestinian content on social media. The trainees learned about digital media and the difference between digital media and traditional media as well as its importance and tools.

* كتب ممدوح الوالي مقالاً لموقع قناة الجزيرة يسلط الضوء على التحديات التي تواجه قطاع الشباب في مصر. وذكر أن وزارة الشباب تهتم بالرياضة أكثر من اهتمامها بالشباب. ورغم أن ميزانية المجلس القومي للشباب بلغت 1.375 مليار جنيه في العام المالي 2020/2021، إلا أن 60٪ من هذه المخصصات ذهبت للبناء، و 30٪ لدعم مراكز الشباب، و 8٪ لأجور العاملين، وترك 1٪ للأنشطة. وأشار إلى أن 37٪ من القرى المصرية لا يوجد بها حاليًا مركز للشباب. وأضاف أن جهاز الإحصاء لا ينشر البيانات بالقدر الذي كان عليه في السابق، مما جعل من المستحيل التعرف على واقع الشباب المصري، بما في ذلك معدلات الانخراط في أنشطة غير مشروعة مثل الدعارة وتهريب المخدرات وتهريب الآثار، وتجارة الأسلحة، من بين أمور أخرى.

* دشن الأمير فيصل بن بندر بن عبد العزيز أمير منطقة الرياض (في المملكة العربية السعودية) مبادرة تطوعية للجنة شباب المنطقة الاستشارية تجسدت في إطلاق "حساب التوفير" على المنصة الوطنية للعمل التطوعي.

* أطلق مركز شباب الأمة في فلسطين برنامجاً تدريبياً بعنوان "الإعلام الرقمي وإنشاء المحتوى". يهدف البرنامج إلى إكساب المتدربين مهارات إنشاء المحتوى الرقمي من خلال التطبيق العملي والنشر الرقمي عبر منصات التواصل الاجتماعي. كما يتطلع إلى صقل المهارات الإعلامية للشباب لاستثمار جهودهم وطاقاتهم لخدمة القضية الفلسطينية من خلال الترويج للمحتوى الفلسطيني على وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي. تعرف المتدربون على الإعلام الرقمي والفرق بين الوسائط الرقمية والوسائط التقليدية وأهميتها وأدواتها.

Education

* Egyptian Representative, Ahmed Fathi, founder and executive director of the Youth Leaders Foundation, said that the Foundation works to empower students and give them an opportunity to experience the real work environment. He explained that the Foundation has provided an opportunity for young people from all universities to compete in aspects related to the environment, health, and social solidarity, among others.

* قال النائب المصري، أحمد فتحي، المؤسس والمدير التنفيذي لمؤسسة قادة الشباب، إن المؤسسة تعمل على تمكين الطلاب ومنحهم فرصة لتجربة بيئة العمل الحقيقية. وأوضح أن المؤسسة أتاحت الفرصة للشباب من جميع الجامعات للتنافس في الجوانب المتعلقة بالبيئة والصحة والتكافل الاجتماعي وغيرها.

Environment

* Akhbar Alyoum reported that a group of young Egyptians were able to reduce the costs associated with converting traditional cars into electric cars. Their goal was to design an environmentally friendly project. The project aims to transform classic cars into environmentally friendly electric cars by using reused tools as well as other modern environmentally friendly tools to modify traditional cars into electric cars (hybrid electric).

* أفادت أخبار اليوم أن مجموعة من الشباب المصري تمكنوا من خفض التكاليف المرتبطة بتحويل السيارات التقليدية إلى سيارات كهربائية هجينة. وكان هدفهم تصميم مشروع صديق للبيئة، حيث يهدف المشروع إلى تحويل السيارات الكلاسيكية إلى سيارات كهربائية صديقة للبيئة باستخدام أدوات معاد استخدامها بالإضافة إلى أدوات حديثة أخرى صديقة للبيئة لتعديل السيارات التقليدية إلى سيارات كهربائية (كهربائية هجينة).

Politics and Political Engagement

* The Egyptian Revolutionary Council has called on the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) to "withdraw" from the Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians in Sharm El-Sheikh held Wednesday. The Council condemned the IPU's decision to partner with the Egyptian government to hold the conference. The Council stated that the IPY has an obligation to protect fellow parliamentarians, but ever since the military coup in 2013, 171 Egyptian MPs have been imprisoned and many are in exile and face imprisonment or worse if they return. The IPU has not completed its role of defended the rights of elected MPs, but instead has been used to legitimize the "one of the most tyrannical regimes in the region"

* دعا المجلس الثوري المصري الاتحاد البرلماني الدولي إلى "الانسحاب" من المؤتمر العالمي للبرلمانيين الشباب المنعقد في شمر الشيخ يوم الأربعاء. وأدان المجلس قرار الاتحاد البرلماني الدولي الشراكة مع الحكومة المصرية لعقد المؤتمر. وأوضح المجلس أن السنة القطبية الدولية ملزمة بحماية زملائهم البرلمانيين، ولكن منذ الانقلاب العسكري عام 2013، سُجن 171 نائباً مصرياً والعديد منهم في المنفى ويواجهون السجن أو أسوأ إذا عادوا. لم يكمل الاتحاد البرلماني الدولي دوره في الدفاع عن حقوق النواب المنتخبين، بل استخدم بدلاً من ذلك لإضفاء الشرعية على "أحد أكثر الأنظمة استبدادًا في المنطقة".

Economics and Entrepreneurship

* The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development, and the Young Economists Network Program held a high-level policy dialogue on the future of economics and investment in Africa. During her speech, Dr. Hala Al-Saeed said that investing in the new generation has always been rewarding, referring to the main issue at hand, which covers the path paved by the Young Economists Network, towards empowering youth and giving them the opportunity to develop a macroeconomic model to contribute to achieving the 2030 global sustainable development plan and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Africa for the year 2063. Al-Saeed added that Africa's future will be shaped by young minds, who will be raised to take charge of the macroeconomic direction in which the continent is moving.

* The project office of the first robotics park in the Middle East was opened in Al Rusayl Industrial City in Oman. Just earlier this month, Al Rusayl Industrial City had signed an agreement with Sandy Valley Robotics to implement the park on an area of 3.2mn sqm. The park is expected to generate 15,000 jobs, and will include workshops for manufacturing robots of all kinds. The park will also have a research and development center for robotics and artificial intelligence. The park will open its doors to youth innovators and entrepreneurs and will train Omanis to equip them with new technologies immediately so they can get jobs and opportunities in the field of robotics.

* Al-Futtaim group hosted an Open Day to recruit Emirati youth. The event was attended by hundreds of young Emiratis looking for job opportunities in the private sector. All attendees were interviewed to work across all departments of the group and affiliated sectors. This event is in line with UAE's Emiratization policy.

الاقتصاد وريادة الأعمال

* عقدت وزارة التخطيط والتنمية الاقتصادية والمعهد القومي للحوكمة والتنمية المستدامة، وبرنامج شبكة الاقتصاديين الشباب، حوار سياسي رفيع المستوى حول مستقبل الاقتصاد والاستثمار في أفريقيا. خلال كلمتها قالت د. هالة السعيد إن الاستثمار في الجيل الجديد لطالما كان مجزيًا، متطرقه إلى القضية الأساسية المطروحة، والتي تغطي المسار الذي مهدته شبكة الاقتصاديين الشباب، نحو تمكين الشباب ومنحهم الفرصة لوضع نموذج الاقتصاد الكلي للمساهمة في تحقيق خطة التنمية المستدامة العالمية لعام 2030 وخطة أفريقيا لعام 2063. وأضافت السعيد أن مستقبل أفريقيا ستشكله العقول الشابة، التي ستنشأ على تولي المسئولية حول الاتجاه الاقتصادي الكلي الذي تسير فيه القارة.

* تم افتتاح مكتب مشروع أول حديقة للروبوتات في الشرق الأوسط في مدينة الرسيل الصناعية في سلطنة عمان. في وقت سابق من هذا الشهر، وقعت مدينة الرسيل الصناعية اتفاقية مع شركة "ساندي فالي روبوتكس" لتنفيذ الحديقة على مساحة 3.2 مليون متر مربع. ومن المتوقع أن تخلق الحديقة 15000 وظيفة، وستتضمن ورش عمل لتصنيع الروبوتات بجميع أنواعها. ستحتوي الحديقة أيضًا على مركز أبحاث وتطوير للروبوتات والذكاء الاصطناعي. ستفتح الحديقة أبوابها للمبدعين الشباب ورواد الأعمال وستقوم بتدريب العمانيين لتزويدهم بالتقنيات الجديدة على الفور حتى يتمكنوا من الحصول على وظائف وفرص في مجال الروبوتات.

* استضافت مجموعة الفطيم يوم مفتوح لتوظيف الشباب الإماراتي. حضر الفعالية المئات من الشباب الإماراتي الباحثين عن فرص عمل في القطاع الخاص. تمت مقابلة جميع الحاضرين للعمل في جميع أقسام المجموعة والقطاعات التابعة. يتماشى هذا الحدث مع سياسة التوطين في دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة.

Conflict

* In a report published on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the start of the Israeli siege on the Gaza Strip, the non-governmental organization Save the Children warned that 80% of the children of the Palestinian Strip suffer from psychological distress. Since 2018, the number of Gaza children complaining of symptoms of “depression, sadness and fear” has risen from 55 percent to 80 percent, according to the report. "The children we spoke to during the preparation of this report described their feelings as a constant state of fear, anxiety and sadness," said Jason Lee, the organization's director in the Palestinian territories. The organization stated that children constitute nearly half of the population of the Gaza Strip, and that 800,000 young people in the Strip "have not experienced life without the siege."

* A Palestinian was shot dead by the Israeli army in the occupied West Bank, and the killing of the Palestinian came a day after the Israeli army launched airstrikes on sites in the Gaza Strip affiliated with the Islamic Hamas movement ruling in the Strip, after a missile was fired from it at Israel. Israel launches airstrikes on Gaza as a response to rockets being launched towards Israeli occupied territory. As a response, Israel launched several airstrikes on different locations. The Israeli military claimed that the airstrikes targeted weapon factories and three military locations for Hamas.

* حذّرت منظمة "أنقذوا الأطفال" غير الحكومية، في تقرير نشرته بمناسبة مرور 15 عاماً على بدء الحصار الإسرائيلي على قطاع غزة، من أنّ 80 في المائة من أطفال القطاع الفلسطيني يعانون من ضائقة نفسية. منذ عام 2018 ارتفع عدد أطفال غزة الذين يشتكون من أعراض "الاكتئاب والحزن والخوف” من 55 في المائة إلى 80 في المائة، حسب التقرير. وقال مدير المنظمة في الأراضي الفلسطينية جيسون لي، إنّ "لأطفال الذين تحدثنا إليهم خلال إعداد هذا التقرير وصفوا مشاعرهم بأنّها بحالة دائمة من الخوف والقلق والحزن". وأوضحت المنظمة أنّ الأطفال يشكلون ما يقرب من نصف سكان القطاع، وأن 800 ألف شاب في القطاع "لم يختبروا الحياة من دون الحصار".

* قُتل فلسطيني برصاص الجيش الإسرائيلي في الضفة الغربية المحتلة، وجاء مقتل الفلسطيني غداة شن الجيش الإسرائيلي ضربات جوية على مواقع في قطاع غزة تابعة لحركة حماس الإسلامية الحاكمة في القطاع، بعدما أُطلق منه صاروخ في اتجاه اسرائيل.  شنت اسرائيل غارات جوية على غزة ردا على إطلاق صواريخ باتجاه الاراضي المحتلة. وردا على ذلك شنت إسرائيل عدة غارات جوية على مواقع مختلفة. زعم الجيش الإسرائيلي أن الغارات الجوية استهدفت مصانع أسلحة وثلاثة مواقع عسكرية لحركة حماس.

Development

* Participants in the annual meeting of Al-Quds University board called for the formation of an Arab, Islamic and International donor alliance to support the occupied city of Jerusalem. The meeting was held in Istanbul, Turkey and lasted three days with Palestinian, Arab and Muslim scholars from different Arab and Muslim countries participating. The alliance is meant to support the healthcare, education and youth sectors in Jerusalem. 

* State minister for Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates' Affairs Nabila Makram said the ministry is keen on cooperation with serval institutions and international organization to attain the UN goals after her meeting with the Deputy Director General of the International Organization for Migration Ugochi Daniels, the head of the IOM's mission in Egypt Laurent de Bock and IOM's Senior Regional Advisor for MENA, Othman Belbeisi to discuss ways of boosting joint cooperation. The minister praised the IOM's level of cooperation with international institutions to attain sustainable development. The meeting tackled the ministry's efforts to combat illegal immigration as well as presidential initiatives. Laurent de Bock voiced his appreciation for the ministry's cooperation and the "National Strategy on Combating Illegal Migration" as well as its efforts in training youth.

* Shamma bint Suhail Al Mazrouei, Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Vice President of the Arab Youth Center, praised the pioneering global results of the “My Story” podcast, launched by the Arab Youth Center in cooperation with Sky News Arabia, after it ranked first globally in terms of listening times during This week in the educational podcast category, the second globally in the economics and entrepreneurship podcast category, in addition to the first and second places in the “Education” and “Economy and Entrepreneurship” categories, the “My Story” series ranked 19th worldwide in the general classification, and it presents a selection of life experiences for Arab youth who were able to create a unique model for personal and societal success despite the challenges. Various stories emerged in this context that dealt with experiences that show the role of will in overcoming difficulties, international successes in the most prestigious international forums, and the importance of persistence in making success.

* دعا المشاركون في الاجتماع السنوي لمجلس جامعة القدس إلى تشكيل تحالف مانح عربي وإسلامي ودولي لدعم مدينة القدس المحتلة. عقد الاجتماع في اسطنبول بتركيا واستمر ثلاثة أيام بمشاركة علماء فلسطينيين وعرب ومسلمين من مختلف الدول العربية والإسلامية. يهدف التحالف إلى دعم قطاعات الرعاية الصحية والتعليم والشباب في القدس.

* قالت وزيرة الدولة للهجرة وشؤون المصريين المغتربين، نبيلة مكرم، إن الوزارة حريصة على التعاون مع المؤسسات الخدمية والمنظمات الدولية لتحقيق أهداف الأمم المتحدة بعد اجتماعها مع نائب المدير العام للمنظمة الدولية للهجرة أوجوتشي دانيلز، رئيس مهمة المنظمة الدولية للهجرة في مصر لوران دي بوك، والمستشار الإقليمي الأول للمنظمة الدولية للهجرة لمنطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا، عثمان بلبيسي، لبحث سبل تعزيز التعاون المشترك. وأشادت الوزيرة بمستوى تعاون المنظمة الدولية للهجرة مع المؤسسات الدولية لتحقيق التنمية المستدامة. وتناول الاجتماع جهود الوزارة في مكافحة الهجرة غير الشرعية وكذلك المبادرات الرئاسية. وعبر لوران دي بوك عن تقديره لتعاون الوزارة و "الإستراتيجية الوطنية لمكافحة الهجرة غير الشرعية" وكذلك جهودها في تدريب الشباب.

* ثمنت شما بنت سهيل المزروعي وزيرة دولة لشؤون الشباب ونائب رئيس مركز الشباب العربي، النتائج العالمية الرائدة التي حظي بها بودكاست سلسلة "قصتي" الذي أطلقه مركز الشباب العربي بالتعاون مع قناة "سكاي نيوز عربية" بعد حلوله في المركز الأول عالميا من حيث مرات الاستماع خلال الأسبوع الجاري في فئة البودكاست التعليمي والثاني عالمياً في فئة بودكاست الاقتصاد وريادة الأعمال، إلى جانب المركزين الأول والثاني في فئتي "التعليم" و"الاقتصاد وريادة الأعمال"، حلت سلسلة "قصتي" في المركز 19 على مستوى العالم في التصنيف العام. سلسلة "قصتي تقديم نخبة من التجارب الحياتية لشباب عربي تمكن من صنع نموذج متفرد للنجاح الشخصي والمجتمعي على الرغم من التحديات، وبرزت في هذا الإطار قصص متنوعة تناولت تجارب تُظهر دور الإرادة في تجاوز الصعوبات ونجاحات دولية في أرقى المحافل العالمية وأهمية الإصرار في صنع النجاح.

Education

* SABIC and the Pearl Initiative, a non-profit organization focused on corporate accountability and transparency in the Gulf region, launched a business series to raise awareness amongst university students on conscious and unconscious biases in the world place. Over 30 students from King Saudi University participated in the first session. The discussion focused on broadening the horizon of the future workforce and equipping students with the practical know-how and tools that will help them anticipate, overcome and break the bias. Students were introduced to different types of biases , such ageism and gender bias.  

* The Hospitality major Hilton has partnered with Bunyan for Training, a local affiliate of Swiss hospitality management school Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne to train young Saudi talent willing to enter the industry. The program will allow select students to receive advanced theoretical and practical curricula certified by the school and accredited by Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne. It also allows students to pursue a bachelor's degree and expand their skill set across a variety of hospitality professions. This program has been designed to provide youth with job opportunities across Hilton Hotels by providing expert coaching and real-life work experience.

* أطلقت شركة سابك ومبادرة بيرل، وهي منظمة غير ربحية تركز على مساءلة الشركات والشفافية في منطقة الخليج، سلسلة أعمال لرفع مستوى الوعي بين طلاب الجامعات حول التحيزات الواعية واللاواعية في العالم. وشارك في الدورة الأولى أكثر من 30 طالباً وطالبة من جامعة الملك سعود. ركزت المناقشة على توسيع أفق القوى العاملة المستقبلية وتزويد الطلاب بالمعرفة العملية والأدوات التي ستساعدهم على توقع التحيز والتغلب عليه وكسره. تم تعريف الطلاب بأنواع مختلفة من التحيزات، مثل التمييز ضد الشيخوخة والتحيز الجنساني.

* أبرمت شركة الضيافة الكبرى هيلتون شراكة مع "بنيان للتدريب"، وهي شركة محلية تابعة لمدرسة إدارة الضيافة السويسرية – لوزان، وذلك لتدريب المواهب السعودية الشابة الراغبة في دخول هذه الصناعة. وسيسمح البرنامج للطلاب المختارين بالحصول على مناهج نظرية وعملية متقدمة معتمدة من المدرسة ومعتمدة من قبل المدرسة الجامعية في لوزان. كما يسمح للطلاب بمتابعة درجة البكالوريوس وتوسيع مجموعة مهاراتهم عبر مجموعة متنوعة من مهن الضيافة. تم تصميم هذا البرنامج لتزويد الشباب بفرص عمل عبر فنادق هيلتون من خلال توفير تدريب خبير وخبرة عمل واقعية.

Environment

* The Parliamentary Division of the Federal National Council participated in the work of the Eighth Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians of the Inter-Parliamentary Union: "Young Representatives for Climate Action", which was held over two days in Sharm El Sheikh, Arab Republic of Egypt. In the session on "Parliamentary Action to Combat Climate Change", HE Mira Al-Suwaidi reviewed the efforts of the United Arab Emirates in addressing the phenomenon of climate change, noting that the UAE plays a leading role in international efforts to address the phenomenon of climate change, and its effects at the regional and international levels. Several initiatives and supporting legislation were presented in this regard, the most important of which is the allocation of a ministry to deal with this issue in particular. The conference sessions discussed the state of climate change and its impact on human rights, parliamentary action to combat climate change, supporting developing countries in addressing climate change, presenting studies on enabling young parliamentarians to assume leadership roles in their countries in this field, and presenting new technologies and innovations to combat climate change.

* شاركت الشعبة البرلمانية للمجلس الوطني الاتحادي، في أعمال المؤتمر العالمي الثامن للبرلمانين الشباب للاتحاد البرلماني الدولي: "النواب الشباب من أجل العمل المناخي"، الذي عقد على مدى يومين في شرم الشيخ بجمهورية مصر العربية. واستعرضت سعادة ميرة السويدي في الجلسة التي تناولت موضوع "العمل البرلماني لمكافحة تغير المناخ"، جهود دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة في التصدي لظاهرة التغير المناخي، مشيرة إلى ان دولة الإمارات تلعب دوراً قيادياً في الجهود الدولية المبذولة للتصدي لظاهرة التغير المناخي، وآثاره على المستوى الإقليمي والدولي، وقدمت العديد من المبادرات والتشريعات الداعمة بهذا الصدد أهمها هو تخصيص وزارة تعنى بهذه القضية بشكل خاص. وناقشت جلسات المؤتمر حالة تغير المناخ وتأثيره على حقوق الإنسان، والعمل البرلماني لمكافحة تغير المناخ، ودعم الدول النامية في التصدي للتغير المناخي، وعرض دراسات حول تمكين البرلمانين الشباب من تولي أدوار قيادية في بلدانهم في هذا المجال، وعرض التقنيات الجديدة والابتكارات المستحدثة لمكافحة التغير المناخي.

Politics and Political Engagement

* The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) will hold its Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians on June 15-16 in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. This conference is expected to bring together 200 young parliamentarians from 60 countries to coordinate action on many aspects, and will be co-hosted by the Egyptian parliament. The report by the Middle East Eye suggests that the conference presents contradictory messages to young Egyptians whose freedom to move, write, or tweet is absent. 

* The Middle East Monitor reported that Egypt is set to hold a national dialogue, as a series of sessions coordinated by the head of the Journalists Syndicate, Diaa Rashwa. Rashwan will be responsible for coordination with political forces and unions to form a 15-member board of trustees for the dialogue. According to the statement, the administration will invite: "The largest possible number of representatives of the Egyptian social classes and institutions to conduct an effective national dialogue."

* The Irbid Youth Directorate in Jordan organized two workshops about youth participation in political life and on enhancing their capacities to enter the labor market. As part of the Political Salon initiative, the Directorate organized a dialogue workshop on “Youth work and their role in participating in political life,” during which politicians called for investing in youth's experiences and capabilities and providing them with the opportunity to participate in political life. During the session, the participants also discussed the most important issues facing youth, emphasizing their important role in political development.

* يعقد الاتحاد البرلماني الدولي مؤتمره العالمي للبرلمانيين الشباب يومي 15 و 16 يونيو في شرم الشيخ في مصر. ومن المتوقع أن يجمع هذا المؤتمر 200 برلماني شاب من 60 دولة لتنسيق العمل بشأن العديد من الأمور الهامة، وسيشترك في استضافته البرلمان المصري. يشير تقرير ميدل إيست آي إلى أن المؤتمر يقدم رسائل متناقضة إلى الشباب المصري الذين يعانون من غياب حرياتهم في الحركة أو الكتابة أو التغريد.

 

* أفاد موقع "ميدل إيست مونيتور" أن مصر تستعد لإجراء حوار وطني، على شكل سلسلة من الجلسات سينسقها نقيب الصحفيين ضياء رشوان. وسيتولى رشوان التنسيق مع القوى والنقابات السياسية لتشكيل مجلس أمناء من 15 عضوا للحوار. وبحسب البيان، فإن الإدارة ستدعو: "أكبر عدد ممكن من ممثلي الطبقات والمؤسسات الاجتماعية المصرية لإجراء حوار وطني فعال".

 

* نظمت مديرية شباب إربد في الأردن ورشتي عمل حول مشاركة الشباب في الحياة السياسية وتعزيز قدراتهم لدخول سوق العمل. ضمن مبادرة الصالون السياسي، نظمت المديرية ورشة عمل حوارية حول "لعمل الشبابي ودوره في المشاركة بالحياة السياسية"، دعا خلالها سياسيون إلى الاستثمار في تجارب الشباب وقدراتهم وإتاحة الفرصة لهم للمشاركة في الحياة السياسية. كما ناقش المشاركون خلال الجلسة أهم القضايا التي تواجه الشباب، مؤكدين على دورهم المهم في التنمية السياسية.

Economics and Entrepreneurship

* Arab News reported that “Lebanon’s middle class thins out as skilled professionals head for the exits”. The report highlights challenges faced by skilled professionals in Lebanon, as one cardiologist said “I started losing money because of the banking system, the corruption and a decline in income. Financially and professionally, I was doing worse than ever.” The report adds that the American University of Beirut’s Crisis Observatory said in 2021 that the current loss of talent will be difficult for Lebanon to overcome because it is the nation’s youth who are leaving. According to the results of an Arab Youth Opinion Survey published in 2020, about 77 percent of respondents in Lebanon said that they were thinking about emigrating, which is the highest percentage compared to any other Arab country.

* A recent report illustrates success stories of three young Syrian refugees in Turkey, as part of the opening of the Core Istanbul Business Hub. The report indicates that the Turkish economy suffers from unprecedented levels of inflation and unemployment issues, which have been affecting Syrian refugees worse, as they tend to work fast-food restaurants, sewing workshops, or Turkish factories. The report tells the stories of a young Syrian refugee who invented a mobile application for “charity lottery” and another whose textile production project has become well renowned globally. 

* The Jordan Islamic Bank contributed financially to supporting awareness campaigns “Towards Financially Educated Youth” implemented by the Central Bank of Jordan and in cooperation with Jordanian banks. This comes on the occasion of the Arab Financial Inclusion Day, which looks to enhance cultural and financial awareness among youth, with the aim of improving financial inclusion in Jordan, especially for young people.

* The Directorate of Labor in Sohag (Egypt) organized a training course for 40 young investors and graduates of vocational training centers. The training course focused on e-marketing, in cooperation with the Medium, Small, and Micro Enterprise Development Agency. It also looked to alleviate any obstacles related to licensing procedures or any other necessary procedures.

* The Algerian Minister of Energy Transition and Renewable Energies welcomed young entrepreneurs in the field of renewable energies to discuss their concerns. The statement by the ministry indicated that this meeting was held at the request of two young entrepreneurs in order to present their activities, their concerns, and the problems that this division suffers from, as well as to discuss accompanying the Ministry in the framework of generalizing the use of renewable energies. According to the same source, the minister expressed "his department's readiness to mobilize all means to accompany young entrepreneurs carrying projects in renewable energies that contribute to creating wealth and local jobs."

* The Saudi Arabian Ministry of Tourism launched a new program to equip 100,000 young Saudis with the key hospitality skills needed to pursue careers in the tourism sector. The program, named Tourism Trailblazers, will provide in-depth global experience to the tourism industry’s future leaders. The program aims to train 100,000 Saudis as the ministry’s continuous efforts after the launch of a new human capital development strategy in Saudi’s growing tourism industry, which aims to attract more Saudi nationals to the sector.

الاقتصاد وريادة الأعمال

* ذكرت صحيفة عرب نيوز أن "الطبقة الوسطى في لبنان تتأرجح مع توجه المهنيين المهرة نحو الهجرة إلى المخارج". يسلط التقرير الضوء على التحديات التي يواجهها المهنيون المهرة في لبنان، حيث قال أحد أطباء القلب "بدأت في خسارة المال بسبب النظام المصرفي والفساد وتدهور الدخل. من الناحيتين المالية والمهنية، كنت في وضع أسوأ من أي وقت مضى". ويضيف التقرير أن مرصد الأزمات التابع للجامعة الأمريكية في بيروت قال في عام 2021 إن الخسارة الحالية في المواهب سيكون من الصعب على لبنان التغلب عليها لأن شباب البلد هم من يغادرون. وبحسب نتائج استطلاع رأي الشباب العربي المنشور عام 2020، قال حوالي 77٪ من المستجيبين في لبنان إنهم يفكرون بالهجرة، وهي أعلى نسبة مقارنة بأي دولة عربية أخرى.

* يوضح تقرير حديث قصص نجاح ثلاثة لاجئين سوريين شباب في تركيا، كجزء من افتتاح "كور إسطنبول" حاضنة الأعمال. ويشير التقرير إلى أن الاقتصاد التركي يعاني من مستويات غير مسبوقة من التضخم والبطالة، والتي تؤثر على اللاجئين السوريين بشكل أسوأ، حيث يميلون إلى العمل في مطاعم الوجبات السريعة، وورش الخياطة، أو المصانع التركية. ويروي التقرير قصص لاجئ سوري شاب اخترع تطبيقًا للهاتف المحمول يتمركز حول نشر الإعلانات مقابل تذاكر دخول لـ "يانصيب خيري" وآخر أصبح مشروع إنتاج المنسوجات له ذائع الصيت عالميًا.

* ساهم البنك الإسلامي الأردني مالياً في دعم حملات التوعية "نحو شباب متعلم مالياً" التي ينفذها البنك المركزي الأردني وبالتعاون مع البنوك الأردنية. يأتي ذلك بمناسبة اليوم العربي للشمول المالي، والذي يهدف إلى تعزيز الوعي الثقافي والمالي بين الشباب، بهدف تحسين الشمول المالي في الأردن، وخاصة لدى الشباب.

* نظمت مديرية العمل بمحافظة سوهاج (مصر) دورة تدريبية لـ 40 من المستثمرين الشباب وخريجي مراكز التدريب المهني. ركزت الدورة التدريبية على التسويق الإلكتروني بالتعاون مع وكالة تنمية المشروعات المتوسطة والصغيرة ومتناهية الصغر. كما يتطلع هذا التدريب إلى تذليل أي عقبات تتعلق بإجراءات الترخيص أو أي إجراءات أخرى ضرورية.

* رحب الوزير الجزائري للانتقال الطاقوي والطاقات المتجددة برواد الأعمال الشباب في مجال الطاقات المتجددة لمناقشة مخاوفهم. وأشار بيان الوزارة إلى أن هذا الاجتماع عقد بناء على طلب اثنين من رواد الأعمال الشباب لعرض أنشطتهما واهتماماتهما والمشكلات التي تعاني منها هذه الشريحة، وكذلك مناقشة مرافقة الوزارة في إطار تعميم استخدام الطاقات المتجددة. وبحسب المصدر ذاته، أعرب الوزير عن "استعداد دائرته لتعبئة كل السبل لمرافقة رواد الأعمال الشباب الذين يحملون مشاريع في الطاقات المتجددة التي تساهم في خلق الثروات والوظائف المحلية".

* أطلقت وزارة السياحة في المملكة العربية السعودية برنامجًا جديدًا لتزويد 100 ألف شاب سعودي بمهارات الضيافة الأساسية اللازمة للحصول على وظائف في قطاع السياحة. سيوفر البرنامج، المسمى بـ "رواد السياحة"، خبرة عالمية متعمقة لقادة المستقبل في صناعة السياحة. ويهدف البرنامج إلى تدريب 100 ألف سعودي في إطار جهود الوزارة المستمرة بعد إطلاق استراتيجية جديدة لتنمية رأس المال البشري في صناعة السياحة السعودية المتنامية، والتي تهدف إلى جذب المزيد من المواطنين السعوديين إلى هذا القطاع.

Conflict

* The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) published a report in which it interviewed young Palestinian journalists who spoke about their experiences in covering the war in Gaza. Since May of this year, Palestinian journalists have endured two traumatizing events: (1) the killing of Al-Jazeera’s Shireen Abu Akleh and (2) the one-year anniversary of an Israeli airstrike that destroyed a Gaza City building housing The Associated Press and Al-Jazeera, along with other offices and residential apartments, during an Israeli military campaign against militant groups in Gaza. The journalists spoke about challenges to their reporting and the lasting impact of the May 15, 2021 Israeli bombing of the media organizations’ building. One journalist said “I dream of the day I do not hear more stories of death or imagine that it could be me [as a victim] at any time. The war eats you alive.”

* نشرت لجنة حماية الصحفيين تقريرا أجرت فيه مقابلات مع صحفيين فلسطينيين شباب تحدثوا عن تجاربهم في تغطية الحرب في غزة. ويقول التقرير أنه منذ أيار / مايو من هذا العام، عانى الصحفيون الفلسطينيون من حدثين صادمين: (1) مقتل شيرين أبو عقلة من قناة الجزيرة و (2) الذكرى السنوية الأولى لغارة جوية إسرائيلية دمرت مبنى في مدينة غزة كان يضم أسوشيتد برس وقناة الجزيرة، إلى جانب مكاتب وشقق سكنية أخرى، خلال حملة عسكرية إسرائيلية ضد الجماعات المسلحة في غزة. وتحدث الصحفيون عن التحديات التي تواجههم في تغطيتهم الصحفية والأثر الدائم للقصف الإسرائيلي في 15 مايو / أيار 2021 لمبنى المؤسسات الإعلامية. قال أحد الصحفيين "أحلم باليوم الذي لا أسمع فيه المزيد من قصص الموت أو أتخيل أنه يمكن أن أكون [كضحية] في أي وقت. الحرب تلتهمك حيا".

Development

* The "Pillars" program, implemented by the Jordanian Ministry of Youth in cooperation with UNICEF, at the Tafila Model Youth Center, organized a training course on filmmaking for a number of young people from Tafila governorate. The "Arkan" program aims to empower and support young people in all governorates of the Kingdom and help them find job opportunities. Coach Bashar Al-Khamaiseh, a graduate of the Royal Film Commission, said that the course comes within the needs and requirements of the labor market, especially that this field includes many talented and creative people who are interested in presenting the best image of society. The course provides training on field photography, scriptwriting, cinematography, and the production of short films.

* نظم برنامج "الأركان"، والذي تنفذه وزارة الشباب الأردنية بالتعاون مع اليونيسف في مركز شباب الطفيلة النموذجي، دورة تدريبية حول صناعة الأفلام لعدد من شباب محافظة الطفيلة في جنوب الأردن. ويهدف برنامج "الأركان" إلى تمكين الشباب ودعمهم في جميع محافظات المملكة ومساعدتهم في إيجاد فرص عمل. وقال المدرب بشار الخمايسة، خريج الهيئة الملكية للأفلام، إن الدورة تأتي ضمن احتياجات ومتطلبات سوق العمل، خاصة أن هذا المجال يضم العديد من الموهوبين والمبدعين المهتمين بتقديم أفضل صورة للمجتمع. وتقدم الدورة تدريباً على التصوير الميداني، وكتابة السيناريو، والتصوير السينمائي، وإنتاج الأفلام القصيرة.

Education

* Daniel Bardsley wrote for the National News indicating that higher education investment is direly needed to halt Middle East's student “brain drain”. He indicates that The relative scarcity of top facilities to meet the needs of the region's brightest has led to many "leaving to study abroad, and in many cases, not returning home”. He cites a report by Majid Al Futtaim business group and McKinsey, which suggests that more investment in higher education in the region, particularly in a way that promotes the necessary skills for the region’s labor market can limit brain drain.

* كتب دانيال باردسلي في صحيفة "ناشيونال نيوز" يشير إلى أن هناك حاجة ماسة إلى الاستثمار في التعليم العالي لوقف "هجرة الأدمغة" للطلاب في الشرق الأوسط. ويشير إلى أن الندرة النسبية للمرافق الراقية لتلبية احتياجات ألمع المنطقة أدت إلى "مغادرة الكثيرين للدراسة في الخارج، وفي كثير من الحالات، عدم العودة إلى الوطن"، ويستشهد بتقرير صادر عن مجموعة ماجد الفطيم للأعمال وماكينزي، مما يشير إلى أن المزيد من الاستثمار في التعليم العالي في المنطقة، لا سيما عندما يتعلق الأمر بتعزيز المهارات اللازمة لسوق العمل في المنطقة، يمكن أن يحد من هجرة الأدمغة.

Environment

* Mohammed Abu Dalhoum wrote an article for Arab News indicating that the Middle East’s wider response to climate change has been treading backwards with spoilers exerting destabilizing activities in the Levantine Sea in particular. The president of MENAACTION indicates that the region should ensure that their efforts are sustainable, enhance youth representation in environmental policy making – since they tend to be “more vigilant, concerned, and action-oriented when it comes to climate change”, and move toward a more effective multilateral and cross-sectoral cooperation.

* The Directorate of Youth and Sports in Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate (Egypt) organized an awareness meeting on the initiative of the pioneers of climate change, with the participation of members of youth centers and students and graduates of universities or technical institutes, aged 18 to 35. This initiative aims to raise awareness of climate change and its impact on Egypt in particular along with the specific means which could help in mitigating its implications.

* In Egypt, the Lifestyle Initiative launched its activities at the Youth Center of Al Salam Village, which looked to raise awareness of the dangers of climate change and reducing its risks. During the session, the panel discussion was held to raise awareness of the dangers of climate change on society, and the participants were divided into three working groups to discuss the effects of climate change on society, agriculture, and health.

* The Al-Ummah Youth Center in Palestine collaborated with the Directorate of Youth and Culture and the Municipality of Khan Yunis to conduct a field tour the Governorate, on the occasion of World Environment Day. The "Environmental Path" tour included a visit to the central sewage treatment plant, the solid waste landfill, and the filtration ponds southeast of the city. The chairman of the center explained that the field tour came to get acquainted with the most important municipal facilities and vital projects that have been implemented in the sanitation, health, and environment sectors.

* كتب محمد أبو دلهوم مقالاً في صحيفة عرب نيوز يشير إلى أن استجابة الشرق الأوسط الأوسع لتغير المناخ تتراجع مع المفسدين الذين يمارسون أنشطة مزعزعة للاستقرار في بحر الشام على وجه الخصوص. يشير رئيس مينا أكشن إلى أن منطقة الشرق الأوسط يجب أن تسير نحو تسخير جهود مستدامة، وأن تعزز تمثيل الشباب في صنع السياسات العامة المتعلقة بالبيئية - نظرًا لأن الشباب عادة ما يكونون "أكثر يقظة، واهتمامًا، وعملية عندما يتعلق الأمر بتغير المناخ"، بالإضافة إلى أهمية التوجه نحو تعاون أكثر فعالية متعدد الأطراف وشامل للقطاعات.

 

* نظمت مديرية الشباب والرياضة بمحافظة كفر الشيخ (في مصر) لقاء توعويا بمبادرة رواد التغير المناخي بمشاركة أعضاء من مراكز الشباب وطلاب وخريجي جامعات أو معاهد فنية تتراوح أعمارهم بين 18 و35 عاما. وتهدف هذه المبادرة إلى زيادة الوعي بتغير المناخ وتأثيره على مصر على وجه الخصوص إلى جانب الوسائل المحددة التي يمكن أن تساعد في التخفيف من آثاره.

 

* في مصر، أطلقت مبادرة لايف ستايل أنشطتها في مركز الشباب بقرية السلام، والتي تهدف إلى زيادة الوعي بمخاطر تغير المناخ والحد من مخاطره. خلال الجلسة، عقدت حلقة نقاش للتوعية بمخاطر تغير المناخ على المجتمع، وتم تقسيم المشاركين إلى ثلاث مجموعات عمل لمناقشة آثار تغير المناخ على المجتمع والزراعة والصحة.

* تعاون مركز شباب الأمة في فلسطين مع مديرية الشباب والثقافة وبلدية خان يونس للقيام بجولة ميدانية في المحافظة بمناسبة يوم البيئة العالمي. وتضمنت جولة "المسار البيئي" زيارة المحطة المركزية لمعالجة مياه الصرف الصحي ومكب النفايات الصلبة وبرك الترشيح جنوب شرق المدينة. وأوضح رئيس المركز أن الجولة الميدانية جاءت للتعرف على أهم المرافق البلدية والمشاريع الحيوية التي تم تنفيذها في قطاعات الصرف الصحي والصحة والبيئة.

Politics and Political Engagement

* Mohammed Abu Dalhoum wrote for Arab News stressing on the importance of including youth and women in conflict resolution discussions. He highlights that the protracted conflicts across the MENA region have had terrible negative impacts on youth particularly, including on their education and livelihoods. Abu Dalhoum asserts that the inclusion of youth on the dialogue tables would give a better chance of a long-lasting success, strengthening a society’s ability to avoid a relapse into armed violence, as it would lead to positive peace hand-in-hand with social justice.

* كتب محمد أبو دلهوم لصحيفة عرب نيوز مشددًا على أهمية إشراك الشباب والنساء في نقاشات حل النزاعات. وسلط الضوء على أن النزاعات التي طال أمدها في جميع أنحاء منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا كان لها آثار سلبية رهيبة على الشباب على وجه الخصوص، بما في ذلك على مستوى التعليم وعلى البطالة. ويؤكد أبو دلهوم أن إدراج الشباب على طاولات الحوار من شأنه أن يعطي فرصة أفضل للنجاح طويل الأمد، ويعزز قدرة المجتمع على تجنب الانتكاس إلى العنف المسلح، لأنه سيؤدي إلى سلام إيجابي جنبًا إلى جنب مع سيادة العدل المجتمعي.

Economics and Entrepreneurship

* A group of young Jordanians received the Prince’s Trust Group Sustainability Award from HRH The Prince of Wales at the Royal Drury Lane Theater in the UK. Commenting on the win, team leader Zaid said: “Winning this award means a lot to us as a team. It will help us inspire other young people to make a difference.” Fifteen-year-old Zaid, Maya, and Mohamed have devised an ingenious way to use speed bumps to generate electricity. The business concept of the award-winning trio, "EcoRoad", adapted the bumps to absorb and convert kinetic energy from passing cars, then store the electricity in batteries for sale. “The idea of our work revolves around tackling energy and environmental issues,” explains Zaid, the leader of the EcoRoad team, adding: “In Jordan there are many, many bumps on the roads, so we thought we should take advantage of them.” The team has now secured seed funding to develop their idea, and the prototype is under technical development with a local company.

* The Capital Governorate Youth Directorate in Jordan intends to set up a digital knowledge station at the Capital Youth Center, with the aim of providing youth with information technology skills, as revealed during a meeting with the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship.

* Nevin Jameh, the Egyptian Minister of Trade and Industry and CEO of the Enterprise Development Authority, confirmed that the agency is cooperating with various donors and international agencies to provide support and assistance to young innovators and entrepreneurs to encourage them to set up innovative and modern technological projects and support them financially and technically. She added that the agency succeeded in implementing the first program to finance investment funds from the World Bank Group, which amounted to 50 million dollars. Aoun Abdel Rahman, a financial sector specialist at the World Bank, confirmed that the bank has financed venture capital programs in a number of countries in Africa and the Middle East.

* Nermin Almufti wrote an article for the Iraqi News Agency discussing youth entrepreneurs and support programs. She says that there are many young Iraqis who have established small entrepreneurial projects and managed to succeed. She adds that the opportunities in Iraq are few and far between due to the chaos and lack of clarity of vision, as well as the lack of interest  at the government level. However, Almufti suggests, highlighting success stories in the Iraqi media will be a step ahead to essentially raise awareness for young Iraqis of the available programs, opportunities, and successes. She also referred to the microcredit program of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, which provides capital to start a small or medium projects.

* Algerian youth continue to seek the establishment of their own mini-enterprises for the second year in a row since the Algerian government announced that it would support projects and ideas and encourage local investment. According to the latest official figures, the first three months of 2022 witnessed the creation of 2,500 micro-enterprises owned by young people and financed by the National Agency for Entrepreneurship Support and Development. Since 2020, the delegated ministry in charge of micro-enterprises has reviewed more than 72,000 registration applications, submitted by young people to establish their own mini-enterprises. So far, the government has approved 15,000 institutions to be supported by the ministry with training and mentoring programs.

* تسلم مجموعة من الشباب الأردنيين جائزة "مجموعة الأمير الاستئمانية" للاستدامة من صاحب السمو الملكي أمير ويلز في مسرح رويال دروري لين في المملكة المتحدة. وتعليقًا على الفوز، قال قائد الفريق زيد: "الفوز بهذه الجائزة يعني الكثير بالنسبة لنا كفريق. سيساعدنا هذا الفوز في إلهام الشباب الآخرين لإحداث فرق". وابتكر زيد ومايا ومحمد البالغين من العمر خمسة عشر عامًا طريقة بارعة لاستخدام مطبات السرعة لتوليد الكهرباء. ويتمركز مفهوم الأعمال للفريق الشاب الحائز على الجائرة "ايكو رود" في العمل على تكييف المطبات لامتصاص وتحويل الطاقة الحركية من السيارات المارة، ثم تخزين الكهرباء في بطاريات للبيع. "تدور فكرة عملنا حول معالجة قضايا الطاقة والبيئة"، يوضح زيد، رئيس فريق "ايكو رود"، مضيفًا: "في الأردن هناك العديد من المطبات على الطرق، لذلك اعتقدنا أنه يجب علينا الاستفادة منها." والجدير بالذكر، أن الفريق قد حصل الآن على تمويل أولي لتطوير فكرتهم، حيث أن النموذج الأولي قيد التطوير التقني مع شركة محلية.

* تعتزم مديرية شباب محافظة العاصمة في الأردن إنشاء محطة معرفية رقمية في مركز شباب العاصمة في عمان، بهدف تزويد الشباب بمهارات تقنية المعلومات، وهو ما تم الإعلان عنه خلال اجتماع بين المديرية مع وزارة الاقتصاد الرقمي وريادة الأعمال.

* أكدت نيفين جامع، وزيرة التجارة والصناعة المصرية والرئيس التنفيذي لهيئة تنمية المشاريع، أن الوكالة تتعاون مع مختلف الجهات المانحة والوكالات الدولية لتقديم الدعم والمساعدة للمبتكرين الشباب ورواد الأعمال لتشجيعهم على إنشاء تقنيات مبتكرة ومشاريع تقنية حديثة ودعمها ماديا وتقنيا. وأضافت أن الوكالة نجحت في تنفيذ البرنامج الأول لتمويل صناديق الاستثمار من مجموعة البنك الدولي والبالغة 50 مليون دولار. وأكد عون عبد الرحمن، المتخصص في القطاع المالي بالبنك الدولي، أن البنك الدولي قد مول برامج رأس المال الاستثماري في عدد من البلدان في أفريقيا والشرق الأوسط.

* كتبت نرمين المفتي مقالاً لوكالة الأنباء العراقية تناقش فيه رواد الأعمال الشباب وبرامج الدعم في العراق. وتقول إن هناك الكثير من الشباب العراقيين الذين أسسوا مشاريع ريادية صغيرة ونجحوا. وتضيف أن الفرص في العراق قليلة ومتباعدة بسبب الفوضى وغياب وضوح الرؤية، فضلاً عن عدم الاهتمام على المستوى الحكومي. ومع ذلك، تقترح نرمين المفتي أن تسليط الضوء على قصص النجاح في وسائل الإعلام العراقية سيكون خطوة إلى الأمام لزيادة وعي الشباب العراقي بشكل أساسي بالبرامج والفرص المتاحة لهم بالإضافة إلى النجاحات التي برزت في السابق. كما أشارت إلى برنامج القروض الصغيرة التابع لوزارة العمل والشؤون الاجتماعية والذي يوفر رأس المال لبدء مشاريع صغيرة أو متوسطة.

* يواصل الشباب الجزائري سعيه لتأسيس مشاريعهم الصغيرة للسنة الثانية على التوالي، منذ أن أعلنت الحكومة الجزائرية أنها ستدعم المشاريع والأفكار الريادية وتشجع الاستثمار المحلي. وبحسب آخر الأرقام الرسمية، شهدت الأشهر الثلاثة الأولى من عام 2022 إنشاء 2500 مشروع صغير مملوك للشباب وبتمويل من الوكالة الوطنية لدعم وتنمية ريادة الأعمال. ومنذ عام 2020، استعرضت الوزارة المفوضة المسؤولة عن المؤسسات الصغيرة أكثر من 72000 طلب تسجيل، قدمها الشباب لإنشاء مشاريعهم الصغيرة الخاصة بهم. وحتى الآن، وافقت الحكومة على 15000 مؤسسة مدعومة من قبل الوزارة ببرامج التدريب والتوجيه.

Conflict

* Official Palestinian statistics revealed that 62 Palestinians have been killed by the Israeli occupation army’s bullets since the beginning of 2022, most of whom were killed in the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip. The ministry stated that the latest martyr was a 29-year-old man who was shot last Thursday by the occupation army, during an incursion into the Dheisheh refugee camp in the south of Bethlehem. A 24-year-old young man was the night before during similar confrontations in the town of Yabad in Jenin, hours after a 31-year-old woman was shot dead by the occupation at the entrance to Al-Aroub refugee camp, north of Hebron. The Palestine Liberation Organization also said that Israel is practicing “field executions” of Palestinians, calling for activating international accountability mechanisms to stop the crimes committed.

* كشفت إحصائيات فلسطينية رسمية، عن استشهاد 62 فلسطينيا برصاص جيش الاحتلال الإسرائيلي منذ بداية عام 2022، استشهد معظمهم في الضفة الغربية والقدس الشرقية وقطاع غزة. وأوضحت الوزارة أن الشهيد الأخير كان يبلغ من العمر 29 عاما، استشهد الخميس الماضي برصاص جيش الاحتلال خلال اقتحامهم لمخيم الدهيشة للاجئين جنوب بيت لحم. وتعرض شاب يبلغ من العمر 24 عاما في الليلة السابقة خلال مواجهات مماثلة في بلدة يعبد بجنين، بعد ساعات من مقتل شابة تبلغ من العمر 31 عاما برصاص الاحتلال عند مدخل مخيم العروب للاجئين شمالي محافظة الخليل. كما قالت منظمة التحرير الفلسطينية إن إسرائيل تمارس "إعدامات ميدانية" للفلسطينيين، داعية إلى تفعيل آليات المساءلة الدولية لوقف الجرائم المرتكبة بحق الفلسطيين.

Development

* The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation supports the International Labor Organization and UNICEF in raising employability, creativity, and social entrepreneurship skills as well as providing career guidance services to Egyptian and non-Egyptian youth. A participant from Sudan said: “I benefited a lot from the Job Search Club and realized that I had many skills that I was not aware of.” The “Because You Are Human” Foundation, a youth-led non-governmental organization, is working to raise the educational level of members of the local community and improve their standard of living and the services provided to them, through livelihood support programs and the integration of foreign nationalities into the host community. 

* From the simplest means of entertainment amid the chaos that spread in Libya, young Libyans found freedom in the establishment of a recreational park. Volunteers have installed the first skateboard park in the Libyan capital, Tripoli, sparking excitement among youth deprived of entertainment. This recreational park in Tripoli includes a bike path, riding space, mini football pitches and green spaces. With funding from the US Embassy in Tripoli, the free outdoor skateboard park was built with the support of Make Life Skate Live, an NGO that works to create free skate parks in poor communities. The organization aspires to the simple goal of providing a safe and inclusive space that brings people together and builds a happy society free from racial, gender, and religious discrimination.

* Meet Tarif Youth Center of the Dekernes Youth Department, in Dakahlia Governorate - Egypt, carried out an awareness seminar on “bullying and violence against women and the danger of social media”, to educate female members of the General Assembly of the Meet Tarif Youth Center. The symposium was moderated by Hassan Al-Saidi who spoke about violence against women as a violent act that is motivated by gender bias and which results in harm and suffering to women, whether in terms of physical, sexual, or psychological terms. The lecturer also talked about social media, which is one of the incubators of violence against women and in various forms that may succeed in concealing aspects of violence against women.

* The "Ibtna’" initiative concluded a dialogue session in Jordan titled “Determining the needs of the Sahab region” in cooperation with the Balcona Society for Human Development. This session targeted young men and women of the region, as the initiative seeks to encourage young people to read and to raise awareness through dialogue sessions and training courses. Ms. Nisreen Abu Rumman, Director General of Balcona Community, stressed while presiding over a part of the meeting with the trainees, that there is an urgent need to involve the young men and women of the local community in such initiatives and dialogue sessions that work to develop young people’s skills and refine their experiences and benefit from them.

* تدعم الوكالة السويسرية للتنمية والتعاون منظمة العمل الدولية واليونيسف في رفع مهارات التوظيف والإبداع وريادة الأعمال الاجتماعية بالإضافة إلى تقديم خدمات التوجيه المهني للشباب المصري وغير المصري. وقال مشارك من السودان: "لقد استفدت كثيرًا من نادي البحث عن عمل وأدركت أن لدي العديد من المهارات التي لم أكن على علم بها في السابق." وتعمل مؤسسة "لأنك إنسان"، وهي منظمة غير حكومية يقودها الشباب، على رفع المستوى التعليمي لأفراد المجتمع المحلي وتحسين مستوى معيشتهم والخدمات المقدمة لهم، وذلك من خلال برامج دعم سبل العيش ودمج الجنسيات الأجنبية في المجتمع المضيف.

* من أبسط وسائل الترفيه وسط الفوضى التي عمت ليبيا لوقت طويل، وجد الشباب الليبي الحرية في إنشاء حديقة ترفيهية جديدة، حيث نصب متطوعون أول حديقة تزلج في العاصمة الليبية طرابلس، مما أثار حماسة الشباب المحرومين من الترفيه. وتضم هذه الحديقة الترفيهية في طرابلس مسارًا للدراجات، ومساحة لركوب الخيل، وملاعب كرة قدم صغيرة، ومساحات خضراء. فبتمويل من السفارة الأمريكية في طرابلس، تم بناء حديقة التزلج الخارجية المجانية بدعم من منظمة "ميك لايف سكيت لايف"، وهي منظمة غير حكومية تعمل على إنشاء حدائق تزلج مجانية في المجتمعات الفقيرة. وتطمح المنظمة إلى الهدف البسيط المتمثل في توفير مساحة آمنة وشاملة تجمع الناس معًا وتبني مجتمعًا سعيدًا خالٍ من التمييز العنصري والجنسي والديني.

* نفذ مركز شباب ميت طريف التابع لقسم شباب دكرنس بمحافظة الدقهلية في مصر ندوة توعوية جديدة حول "التنمر والعنف ضد المرأة وخطر وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي" وذلك لتوعية النساء الأعضاء في الجمعية العمومية لمركز شباب ميت طريف. وأدار الندوة المحاضر حسن الصعيدي الذي تحدث عن العنف ضد المرأة باعتباره عملاً عنيفاً بدافع التحيز ضد المرأة وينتج عنه الأذى والمعاناة للمرأة سواء من الناحية الجسدية أو الجنسية أو النفسية. كما تحدثت المحاضرة عن مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي التي تعد من حاضنات العنف ضد المرأة وبأشكال مختلفة قد تنجح في إخفاء جوانب العنف ضد المرأة.

* اختتمت مبادرة "ابتناء" جلسة حوارية في الأردن بعنوان "تحديد احتياجات منطقة سحاب" بالتعاون مع جمعية بلكونة للتنمية البشرية. واستهدفت هذه الدورة شباب وشابات المدينة، حيث تسعى المبادرة إلى تشجيع الشباب على القراءة والتوعية من خلال جلسات الحوار والدورات التدريبية. وأكدت السيدة نسرين أبو رمان، المديرة العامة لمجتمع بلكونة، أثناء ترؤس جزء من اللقاء مع المتدربين، أن هناك حاجة ماسة لإشراك شباب وشابات المجتمع المحلي في مثل هذه المبادرات وكذلك في جلسات الحوار التي تعمل على تنمية مهارات الشباب وصقل خبراتهم والاستفادة منها.

Education

* University graduates in Gaza suffer from unemployment following their graduation. In fact, over 50% of university graduates in Gaza are unemployed, as one of the highest percentages in the world. A report by AlAraby suggests that this high unemployment rate stems from many factors, including the Palestinian educational system itself, where the absence of professional and practical experience is the most important obstacle that contributes to limiting graduates’ access to adequate job opportunities. 

* The Injaz Foundation seeks to develop and enhance work skills among university graduates seeking to acquire practical skills to help them find real opportunities. One of its programs in Jordan is the Youth Participation and Employment Project, implemented in cooperation with Oxfam. It works to provide training courses for graduates on labor market skills and to develop methods for searching for jobs. It operates in four Jordanian governorates, including Madaba. The project also looks to enhance life and technical skills to facilitate the involvement of young men and women in society and the labor market. Through specialized training, it supports youth to find job opportunities in different fields or to start their own businesses.

* Nestlé and L'Oréal, two members of the Alliance for YOUth, have launched Next Level (NxL), a one-of-a-kind training programme aiming to upskill youth in MENA region. More than 1,000 university students and fresh graduates will be trained per edition to enhance their professional skills and employability. The partnership comes at a time when youth unemployment rates in Mena, already amongst the world’s highest at around 29% according to the World Economic Forum, have been further exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, with 87% of the region’s young people expressing concern about employment. Select participants from over 50 universities in the region will also be invited as part of the programme to L’Oréal and Nestlé offices for further support and guidance.

التعليم

* يعاني خريجو الجامعات الشباب في غزة من معضلة البطالة بعد تخرجهم. ففي الواقع، أكثر من 50٪ من خريجي الجامعات في غزة هم عاطلون عن العمل، وهي واحدة من أعلى النسب في العالم إن لم تكن الأعلى. ويشير تقرير لصحيفة العربي إلى أن هذا المعدل المرتفع للبطالة نابع من عدة عوامل، من بينها النظام التعليمي الفلسطيني نفسه، حيث يعتبر غياب الخبرة المهنية والعملية من أهم العوائق التي تساهم في الحد من حصول الخريجين على فرص عمل مناسبة.

* تسعى مؤسسة إنجاز إلى تطوير وتعزيز مهارات العمل لدى خريجي الجامعات الساعين إلى اكتساب المهارات العملية لمساعدتهم على إيجاد فرص حقيقية. أحد برامج انجاز في الأردن هو مشروع المشاركة الشبابية والتشغيل الذي يتم تنفيذه بالتعاون مع منظمة أوكسفام. ويعمل هذا المشروع على تقديم دورات تدريبية للخريجين على مهارات سوق العمل وتطوير أساليب البحث عن الوظائف وتتمركز نشاطاته في أربع محافظات أردنية، بما في ذلك محافظة مادبا. كما يسعى المشروع إلى تعزيز المهارات الحياتية والتقنية لتسهيل مشاركة الشباب والشابات في المجتمع وسوق العمل. ومن خلال التدريب المتخصص، فهي تدعم الشباب لإيجاد فرص عمل في مختلف المجالات أو لبدء مشاريعهم الخاصة.

* أطلقت شركتي نستله ولوريال، وهما عضوان في التحالف من أجل الشباب، برنامج المستوى التالي "ان اكس إل"، وهو برنامج تدريبي فريد من نوعه يهدف إلى تنمية مهارات الشباب في منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا. سيتم تدريب أكثر من 1000 من الطلاب الجامعيين والخريجين الجدد لكل إصدار لتعزيز مهاراتهم المهنية وإمكانية توظيفهم. تأتي الشراكة في وقت تفاقمت فيه معدلات بطالة الشباب في منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا، وهي بالفعل من بين أعلى المعدلات في العالم بحوالي 29٪ وفقًا للمنتدى الاقتصادي العالمي، والتي تفاقمت أيضا بسبب جائحة فايروس كورونا، حيث أعرب 87٪ من شباب المنطقة عن قلقهم حول التوظيف. كما سيتم أيضًا دعوة مشاركين محددين من أكثر من 50 جامعة في المنطقة كجزء من البرنامج إلى مكاتب نيستله ولوريال للحصول على مزيد من الدعم والتوجيه.

Politics and Political Engagement

* The head of the political department of the Islamic Jihad Movement, Dr. Mohammed Al Hindi reaffirmed on Saturday night that the Palestinian people will face against the Occupations plans on Sunday, stating that all options are on the table. He stated during an interview that the Occupation underestimates the resistance and that underestimation will lead to their down fall. He referred to the Palestinian cause as global cause, rather than simply Palestinian. He stated that the authority cannot agree with the youth protesting on the streets, because the authority's job is security. However, he continued and stated that ultimately unity is in facing the enemy. 

* Protests have rocked Iran in the past few weeks due to the economic crisis being exacerbated by the subsidy cuts. At least five people have been killed so far according to unofficial sources. As a response, the Iranian government has cut the intern off in multiple areas that witnessed protests. The cut came a month after newly elected president Ebrahim Raisi declared an end to what and flour subsidies calling it a "necessary economic surgery". This led to a surge in prices for basic goods. The government argued this was due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, however, thousands have taken part in the protests in all different parts of the country. The protestors chanted: "No progress, no recreation, our youth was wasted".

* The Mohammed bin Salman Foundation (MISK) pavilion at the World Economic Forum at Davos allowed Saudi youth to take center stage. The venue was titled the "Youth Majlis" and hosted several discussion panels involving Saudi ministers, global policymakers and youth leaders on how to best empower young people, not just in Saudi Arabia but globally. The pavilion hosted the inauguration of a Youth Council and announced the second edition of the Global Youth Index.

* أكد رئيس الدائرة السياسية في حركة الجهاد الإسلامي الدكتور محمد الهندي، مساء السبت، أن الشعب الفلسطيني سيواجه ضد مخططات الاحتلال يوم الأحد، موضحا أن جميع الخيارات مطروحة على الطاولة. وذكر خلال مقابلة أن الاحتلال يستخف بالمقاومة وأن الاستخفاف سيؤدي إلى سقوطهم. وأشار إلى القضية الفلسطينية على أنها قضية عالمية وليست فلسطينية فقط. وذكر أن السلطة لا تستطيع أن تتفق مع احتجاج الشباب في الشوارع، لأن عمل السلطة هو الأمن. لكنه تابع قائلاً إن الوحدة في نهاية المطاف هي في مواجهة العدو.

* وهزت احتجاجات إيران في الأسابيع القليلة الماضية بسبب تفاقم الأزمة الاقتصادية بسبب خفض الدعم. وقتل خمسة أشخاص على الأقل حتى الآن بحسب مصادر غير رسمية. رداً على ذلك، قطعت الحكومة الإيرانية المتدرب في مناطق متعددة شهدت احتجاجات. وجاء الخفض بعد شهر من إعلان الرئيس المنتخب حديثًا إبراهيم رئيسي إنهاء ما وصفه دعم الدقيق بأنه "جراحة اقتصادية ضرورية". أدى ذلك إلى ارتفاع أسعار السلع الأساسية. جادلت الحكومة أن هذا كان بسبب الغزو الروسي لأوكرانيا، ومع ذلك، شارك الآلاف في الاحتجاجات في جميع أنحاء مختلفة من البلاد. وهتف المتظاهرون: "لا تقدم ولا ترفيه.. شبابنا ضاع".

Economics and Entrepreneurship

* Pupilar, a Middle Eastern, youth-oriented professional network platform created by Maimuna Rashid and Aqsa Khalifa was released last year. The platform was built with the goal of redirecting social networking habits into building successful careers. Rashid called it a "transformed LinkedIn for youth". Pupilar is different from other jobhunting platforms as it focuses on skills rather than social backgrounds for the next generation of intellects. The platform initially targets the 1.3 million inhabitants of the UAE, with the goal of later expanding across the Middle East and North Africa.

* Air Products, a world leader in industrial gases, launched Female Engineers and Technical Associates, a unique program to enable progression and career development of female talent in KSA. Participants of the program will experience a range of tailored job rotations, hands-on learning as well as professional and technical development opportunities within Air Products. This program acts as a contribution to Vision 2030. Air Products also announced a financial contribution to Education for Employment, the leading non-profit organization connection youth in the MENA region to the world of work.

* Orange Corners and AstraZeneca have announced a new partnership to support youth in Jordan and the Palestinian territories. The aim to create an enabling environment for young entrepreneurs. AztraZeneca will provide funding to the program through its Young Health Programme, a holistic and integrated community investment programme focused on connecting adolescents to health and wellbeing. AstraZeneca will also participate in OC's mentorship programme, offering support for young entrepreneurs. Orange Corners aim to improve job prospects for youth between the ages of 18 and 35 in Sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East. OCs stimulate the entrepreneurial mindset of young people. It offers incubation, acceleration, access to finance, education and training, support for policy development and business challenges. Rami Scandar, Country President for the Near East and the Maghreb Cluster at AstraZeneca said that Jordan and the Palestinian territories have some of the youngest and best educated populations in the world, and so they hope to provide young entrepreneurs with the support and opportunities they need to grow, with access to a network of expertise and experience, helping them develop their innovative ideas into thriving businesses.

* Injaz Al-Arab, which has been operating for over 20 years across the MENA region, is teaming up with TikTok to use social media to open pathways to promoting job opportunities of some of the world's biggest companies in fast-emerging fields such as artificial intelligence. The 'Are you Future Ready?' campaign features 10 videos on tiktok from expert companies. The initiative is aimed at young people in the Arab world, with a focus on those in conflicted-areas.

* Orange Jordan launched a new Orange Digital Center in the German Jordanian University in collaboration with GIZ with the goal of developing the skills necessary for youth for employment. This comes as a step for the Orange Digital Center project that aims at expanding the reach of Orange Digital Centers in the kingdom by providing free courses in programming and such.

* Adam Bradford Agency in association with Dan Bolton Agency for Creative Management and British Business Group in Dubai invited all creative youth no older than 35 years old to participate in a competition that aims to support and encourage youth entrepreneurs. Based on its success last year, the competition Inspiring Future's goal is to support youth entrepreneurs and new ideas and help build and support them in their ability to make a difference globally. Participants have the opportunity to participate in workshops and classes hosted by notable figures in the world that will help them turn their ideas into reality. After the classes are done, they participants are asked to present their ideas in front of a jury.

* Director General of the Public Authority for Youth, Dr. Mishaal Al-Shaheen Al-Rabee, affirmed that Kuwait has achieved concrete performance visions in the field of youth empowerment. This came in the words of Al-Rabee, on the sidelines of the United Nations regional meeting held in Jordan, with the participation of officials from governments, the private sector, non-profit organizations and youth groups from the Arab region, and in the presence of the Kuwaiti embassy. During the meeting, he stressed the commitments made by Kuwait towards its youth in the government's development plan. This included supporting high school graduates in their undergraduate education and managing human resources through education. He stated that during the past three years, 1,500 job opportunities were created for young people thanks to the Kuwaiti project "Work Makers".

الاقتصاد وريادة الأعمال

* تم إطلاق "بوبيلار" وهي عبارة عن منصة شبكة مهنية موجهة للشباب في الشرق الأوسط أنشأتها ميمونة راشد وأقصى خليفة في العام الماضي. تم إنشاء المنصة بهدف إعادة توجيه عادات الشبكات الاجتماعية إلى بناء مهن ناجحة. أطلق عليها رشيد اسم "لينكد إن للشباب". تختلف بوبيلار عن منصات البحث عن عمل الأخرى لأنه يركز على المهارات بدلاً من الخلفيات الاجتماعية للجيل القادم من المفكرين. تستهدف المنصة مبدئيًا 1.3 مليون نسمة في الإمارات العربية المتحدة، بهدف التوسع لاحقًا عبر منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا.

* أطلقت شركة "اير برودكتس"، الشركة الرائدة عالميًا في مجال الغازات الصناعية، برنامج "مهندسات وشركاء تقنيون"، وهو برنامج فريد من نوعه لتمكين المواهب النسائية من التقدم والتطوير الوظيفي في المملكة العربية السعودية. سيختبر المشاركون في البرنامج مجموعة من التناوب الوظيفي المخصص، والتعلم العملي بالإضافة إلى فرص التطوير المهني والتقني داخل اير برودكتس. يعمل هذا البرنامج كمساهمة في رؤية 2030. كما أعلنت شركة اير برودكتس عن مساهمة مالية في "التعليم من أجل التوظيف"، وهي منظمة غير ربحية رائدة تربط الشباب في منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا بعالم العمل.

* تتعاون إنجاز العرب، التي تعمل منذ أكثر من 20 عامًا في منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا، مع تيكتوك لاستخدام وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي لفتح مسارات لتعزيز فرص العمل لبعض أكبر الشركات في العالم في مجالات سريعة الظهور مثل الذكاء الاصطناعي. وتحتوي حملة "هل أنت مستعد للمستقبل؟" على 10 مقاطع فيديو على تيكتوك من شركات متخصصة. وتستهدف المبادرة الشباب في العالم العربي، مع التركيز على من هم في مناطق النزاع.

* أطلقت أورانج الأردن مركز أورانج الرقمي الجديد في الجامعة الألمانية الأردنية بالتعاون مع المؤسسة الإنمائية الألمانية بهدف تطوير المهارات اللازمة للشباب للتوظيف. يأتي ذلك كخطوة لمشروع مركز أورانج الرقمي الذي يهدف إلى توسيع نطاق انتشار مراكز أورانج الرقمية في المملكة من خلال تقديم دورات مجانية في البرمجة وما إلى ذلك.

* أكد مدير عام الهيئة العامة للشباب الدكتور مشعل الشاهين الربيع أن الكويت حققت رؤى أداء ملموسة في مجال تمكين الشباب. جاء ذلك على لسان الربيع، على هامش اجتماع الأمم المتحدة الإقليمي المنعقد في الأردن، بمشاركة مسؤولين من الحكومات والقطاع الخاص والمنظمات غير الربحية والجماعات الشبابية من المنطقة العربية، وفي حضور السفارة الكويتية. وأكد خلال الاجتماع الالتزامات التي قطعتها الكويت تجاه شبابها في خطة التنمية الحكومية. وشمل ذلك دعم خريجي المدارس الثانوية في تعليمهم الجامعي وإدارة الموارد البشرية من خلال التعليم. وذكر أنه تم خلال السنوات الثلاث الماضية خلق 1500 فرصة عمل للشباب بفضل المشروع الكويتي "صناع العمل".

Conflict

* Three Palestinian youth snuck into an Israeli military base in the late hours of the night and were walking around undetected for up to two hours before they were discovered, in which they ran away and have yet to be arrested. Israeli forces scoured the nearby villages but were incapable of finding the 3 youth, who are speculated to have snuck in in an attempt of stealing ammunition and weapons. This incident forced Israeli military to rethink its defense of its bases, as dozens of soldiers were asleep on the base at the time. This incident caused criticism, mainly from the far-right, claiming "they were lucky this was not a terrorist attack."

* The Palestinian Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday the martyrdom of a 16 year old due to being shot by occupation forces during clashes between Palestinians in Nablus and Occupation forces. The Palestinian Red Crescent also announced that they had treated 19 injuries and 67 cases of suffocation from tear gas.

* Yemeni sources have revealed a noticeable spike in suicide cases within all age groups in Houthi-controlled cities. The increase was tied to the continuous inhumane methods used by the Houthis against the inhabitants of those cities. Witnesses from the cities stated that those who do not die from arrest and torture or guns, die from starvation and suicide. Dozens of cases of public suicides have taken place in the past few months due to the conditions in which they have to live.

* تسلل ثلاثة شبان فلسطينيين إلى قاعدة عسكرية إسرائيلية في ساعات متأخرة من الليل وكانوا يتجولون دون أن يتم اكتشافهم لمدة تصل إلى ساعتين قبل أن يتم اكتشافهم، وهربوا فيها ولم يتم اعتقالهم بعد. جابت القوات الإسرائيلية القرى المجاورة لكنها لم تتمكن من العثور على الشبان الثلاثة الذين يعتقد أنهم تسللوا في محاولة لسرقة الذخيرة والأسلحة. أجبر هذا الحادث الجيش الإسرائيلي على إعادة التفكير في دفاعه عن قواعده، حيث كان عشرات الجنود نائمين في القاعدة في ذلك الوقت. تسبب هذا الحادث في قلة الانتقادات، خاصة من اليمين المتطرف، زاعمين "أنهم محظوظون لأن هذا لم يكن هجومًا إرهابيًا".

* أعلنت وزارة الصحة الفلسطينية، اليوم الأربعاء، استشهاد شاب يبلغ من العمر 16 عاما جراء إصابته برصاص قوات الاحتلال خلال مواجهات بين الفلسطينيين في نابلس وقوات الاحتلال. كما أعلن الهلال الأحمر الفلسطيني أنه عالج 19 إصابة و67 حالة اختناق بالغاز المسيل للدموع.

* كشفت مصادر يمنية عن ارتفاع ملحوظ في حالات الانتحار بين جميع الفئات العمرية في المدن التي يسيطر عليها الحوثيون. وتعزى الزيادة إلى الأساليب اللاإنسانية المستمرة التي يستخدمها الحوثيون ضد سكان تلك المدن. وذكر شهود عيان من المدن أن من لا يموت من الاعتقال والتعذيب أو السلاح يموت جوعا وانتحارا. حدثت عشرات حالات الانتحار العام في الأشهر القليلة الماضية بسبب الظروف التي يعيشون فيها.

Development

* The Generation Amazing Foundation - A FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 legacy initiative marked the completion of an 18-month project that targeted youth in four different countries. One of these countries being Iraq. In Iraq, activities took place in five regions, including the capital Baghdad, and included the renovation of local youth centers, and football pitches, football tournaments, cultural events, mobile theatre and training courses.

* Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi was present during the signing of the new contract with Siemens International to establish a new railway in the country. Later the president announced the launch of year 2023 as the year of youth, and this during his meeting with Minister of Youth and Sports. The president emphasized the importance educated Arab youth to become more integrated in the recent technological advancements.

* مؤسسة الجيل المبهر - إحدى مبادرات كأس العالم لكرة القدم قطر 2022 بمثابة استكمال لمشروع مدته 18 شهرًا يستهدف الشباب في أربعة بلدان مختلفة. ومن هذه الدول العراق. وفي العراق، نُظمت الأنشطة في خمس مناطق، بما في ذلك العاصمة بغداد، وشملت تجديد مراكز الشباب المحلية، وملاعب كرة القدم، وبطولات كرة القدم، والفعاليات الثقافية، والمسرح المتنقل، والدورات التدريبية.

* The Department of Energy Abu Dhabi is participating in the 8th edition of the Education Interface Exhibition and the Middle East Youth Conference 2022 with the goal of showcasing integration of education and energy sectors. This falls in line with the UAE's vision to build a knowledge-based economy that is globally competitive and supporting innovation and creativity. The event is held under the patronage of HRH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, deputy prime minister and Minister of Interior. The event was praised for its importance in focusing on education in building human resources and fostering innovation.

* The UAE-based healthcare and education investment company Amanat aims to revolutionize education by integrating experiential learning and virtual reality into the curriculum, stated the CEO, Dr. Mohamad Ali Hamade, during the World Economic Forum. Dr. Hamade also stated that Saudi Arabia is a promising market for this kind of investment as it recently started opening up to foreign branch campuses and is increasingly open to international curricula. The company's main idea is to integrate gaming with education, as gaming has become increasingly more attractive to young people. The idea is to take the wasted and non-productive time from gaming and channeling it into something productive. This due to people being more likely to retain and remember information that had been acquired visually or experientially.

* The Egyptian Minister at the EU Badr Abdel Aati met with the EU representatives with the aim of strengthening ties between Egypt and the EU through increasing imports from Egypt. At the same time, the ambassador sought ways to enhance partnerships in the education, youth and sports fields, where light was shed on Egypt's attempts at developing its education field and placing more importance on technical and vocational education. Abdel Aati expressed the importance of increasing the number of students benefitting from EU scholarships, rather than broadening the reach of them. The meeting also targeted empowering youth politically, and referenced Egypt's hosting of the World Youth Forum.

* تشارك دائرة الطاقة أبو ظبي في النسخة الثامنة من معرض الواجهة التعليمية ومؤتمر شباب الشرق الأوسط 2022 بهدف إبراز التكامل بين قطاعي التعليم والطاقة. وهذا يتماشى مع رؤية دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة لبناء اقتصاد قائم على المعرفة قادر على المنافسة عالميًا ويدعم الابتكار والإبداع. يقام الحدث تحت رعاية صاحب السمو الشيخ سيف بن زايد آل نهيان، نائب رئيس مجلس الوزراء ووزير الداخلية. وقد تم الإشادة بالفعالية لأهميتها في التركيز على التعليم في بناء الموارد البشرية وتعزيز الابتكار.

* A session titled "A new security architecture for the Middle East" was held on the second day of the World Economic Forum. During this session, Saudi Finance Minister, Mohammed Al Jadaan was asked about the opportunities the region has and he responded with: "Our youth and technology" The Jordanian Foreign Minister was asked about re-establishing ties with Syria' President, he responded with acknowledging that maintaining the status quo was not a good thing. Saudi Foreign Minister was asked about peace with Israel to which he stressed the importance of resolving the Palestinian conflict.

* The Arab Youth Center announced the launch of its first-of-its-kind training program “The Training Forum of the Arab Youth Council on Climate Change”, with the participation of members of its Arab Youth Council for Climate Change, in preparation for the Arab region to host the global climate summits “COP27” and “COP28” in the current and next year in Egypt and the Emirates, respectively. The program’s cooperation with the International Center “Posterity” and the Majid Al Futtaim Group to enable members of the Arab Youth Council for Climate Change to develop qualitative climate initiatives and projects at the national level in their countries to enhance the contribution of Arab climate action to international efforts on the one hand, and support the elements for the successful hosting of the two global climate summits in the Arab region During the current and next years in Egypt and the UAE on the other hand.

* عقدت جلسة بعنوان "بنية أمنية جديدة للشرق الأوسط" في اليوم الثاني للمنتدى الاقتصادي العالمي. وسئل وزير المالية السعودي محمد الجدعان خلال هذه الجلسة عن الفرص المتاحة في المنطقة فأجاب: "شبابنا والتكنولوجيا". وسئل وزير الخارجية الأردني عن إعادة العلاقات مع الرئيس السوري، فأجاب بالإقرار بأن الحفاظ على الوضع الراهن ليس بالأمر الجيد. وسئل وزير الخارجية السعودي عن السلام مع إسرائيل وأكد له أهمية حل الصراع الفلسطيني.

* أعلن مركز الشباب العربي إطلاق برنامجه التدريبي الأول من نوعه "الملتقى التدريبي لمجلس الشباب العربي للتغير المناخي"، بمشاركة أعضاء مجلس الشباب العربي للتغير المناخي التابع له، وذلك استعداداً لاستضافة المنطقة العربية قمتي المناخ العالميتين بإصدارهما الـ27 والـ28 في العامين الحالي والمقبل في مصر والإمارات تباعاً. بتعاون البرنامج مع "مركز بوستيريتي" الدولي ومجموعة ماجد الفطيم لتمكين أعضاء مجلس الشباب العربي للتغير المناخي من تطوير مبادرات ومشاريع مناخية نوعية على المستوى الوطني في دولهم لتعزيز مساهمة العمل المناخي العربي في الجهود الدولية من جهة، ودعم مقومات الاستضافة الناجحة لقمتي المناخ العالميتين في المنطقة العربية خلال العامين الحالي والمقبل في كلٍ من مصر والإمارات من جهة أخرى.

Politics and Political Engagement

* A week after the Lebanese elections, it appears as though the results are poised for a power struggle at the Parliament level. The report by the National News indicates that the leader of Lebanon’s largest Christian party indicated that it was preparing for a power struggle with Hezbollah and its allies. Samir Geagea, head of the Lebanese Forces, said he rejected a consensus government and would vote against the re-election of parliament speaker Nabih Berri, a Hezbollah ally who has held the position since 1992. Karim Bitar of Saint Joseph University in Beirut, said that “Geagea’s new hardline position against Berri was a break with the past, but now Geagea realises that Berri has become very unpopular among Christians and particularly among the reformist youth.”

* Protests continued to soar in Iran against an economic crisis exacerbated by subsidy cuts that saw the price hikes in basic goods. The Iranian government has cut off the internet in a number of areas and cities that have witnessed protests, including Khouzestan province. Protesters chanted "Raisi should be ashamed and leave the country," "the clerics must get lost," "no progress, no recreation, our youth was wasted," and "down with rising prices". Analysts said the protests were an inevitable outcome of a crisis that has particularly hit the poor.

* Alaa Abd el-Fattah, an Egyptian left-wing political activist and a citizen of the UK, has been on hunger strike in Tora prison since early April in protest against the Egyptian authorities' refusal to allow UK officials to meet with him and provide other basic rights. He has served several prison terms since Hosni Mubarak's rule for his criticism of multiple governments, including for his support for the judicial independence movement, protesting without permission, and for spreading “false news", in a trial widely condemned by human rights defenders, especially as the evidence used against him was a retweet.

* The Youth of the February 14 Revolution Movement in Bahrain issued a statement that addressed the international community to take urgent action to prevent the execution of two Bahraini youth, namely Sadiq Thamer and Jaafar Sultan, who are sentenced to death. The statement condemns the approval of the Saudi Supreme Court on the death sentence against Bahraini citizens and calls on the international community to take action to stop the implementation of the sentence.

* أعلن علاء عبد الفتاح، وهو ناشط سياسي يساري مصري ومواطن بريطاني، عن اضرابه عن الطعام في سجن طرة منذ أوائل أبريل / نيسان الماضي، وذلك احتجاجًا على رفض السلطات المصرية السماح لمسؤولين بريطانيين بمقابلته وتقديم حقوق أساسية أخرى. وقد قضى عدة فترات سجن منذ حكم حسني مبارك لانتقاده لعدة حكومات، بما في ذلك دعمه لحركة استقلال القضاء، والاحتجاج دون إذن، ونشر "أخبار كاذبة"، وسط محاكمة نددها على نطاق واسع المدافعون عن حقوق الإنسان، وخاصة لأن الدليل المستخدم ضده كان إعادة لتغريدة على تويتر.

Economics and Entrepreneurship

* A new report by the World Bank indicates that it is vital for the MENA region to ensure the private sector can gain access to markets and compete equally with government-run businesses. The report offers policy recommendations for how MENA governments can overcome continuing labor market stagnation that undermines economic development and social progress. It indicates that governments must reshape their relationships toward the private sector, toward workers, and, equally important, toward women,” according to the World Bank Vice President for the Middle East and North Africa. “Instead of being active in economic sectors, the state must enable a well-regulated competitive private sector. Instead of controlling worker transitions through an outdated labor code, the state must re-think its social protection and labor market programs. Instead of guarding the legacy of some historical and social norms, the state in the MENA region must be the faithful guardian of gender equity.”

* A report revealed that Turkey has 2.3 million unemployed youth and that one in four young people are neither employed nor enrolled in educational institutions. Prepared by the Studies Center of the Turkish Advanced Trade Union Confederation, the report indicates that unemployment rates among young people with low incomes is about 21 percent, while data from the Research Center of the Confederation of Advanced Trade Unions indicates that the rate has reached about 41 percent. The report added that the percentage of females who are not enrolled in educational institutions or the workforce amounted to 32.4 percent, and that unemployment rates among young people rose by about 5 percent under the rule of the Justice and Development Party.

* The High Representative and the European Commission adopted a Joint Communication on a 'Strategic Partnership with the Gulf' with the aim to broaden and deepen the European Union’s cooperation with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and its member countries. The Joint Communication addresses a series of key policy areas, presenting concrete proposals for strengthened EU-GCC cooperation on energy, green transition and climate change, trade and economic diversification, regional stability and global security, and humanitarian and development challenges.

الاقتصاد وريادة الأعمال

* يشير تقرير جديد صادر عن البنك الدولي إلى أنه من الضروري لمنطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا ضمان وصول القطاع الخاص إلى الأسواق والتنافس على قدم المساواة مع الشركات التي تديرها الحكومة. يقدم التقرير توصيات تتعلق بالسياسات لكيفية تمكن حكومات منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا من التغلب على الركود المستمر في سوق العمل الذي يقوض التنمية الاقتصادية والتقدم الاجتماعي. ويشير هذا إلى أن الحكومات يجب أن تعيد تشكيل علاقاتها تجاه القطاع الخاص، وتجاه العمال، وتجاه المرأة، بنفس الأهمية، "بحسب نائب رئيس البنك الدولي لشؤون الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا. Conflict

* Seven years ago, 13-year-old Palestinian Ahmad Manasra was arrested and charged with two counts of attempted murder after participating in a double stabbing with his cousin in a disputed neighborhood in Jerusalem. His 15 year-old cousin was shot dead while Ahmad was hit by a car while trying to flee the scene, leaving him with a skull fracture and brain injury. Ahmad Manasra’s case prompted the Knesset to reduce the age of criminal responsibility to 12, as it is under military law in the West Bank, and brought international attention to the detention of minors on both sides of the Green Line. In the West Bank, the age of criminal responsibility is 12. As his case dragged through the long legal process, Manasra turned 14 and became eligible for a sentence, if convicted, that could include imprisonment. Manasra pleaded not guilty to the charges, and forensic examination of his knife found no evidence of blood on it. Manasra was originally sentenced to 12 years in prison. Nareman Shehadeh-Zoabi, an attorney working for Adalah Organization said that the organization has found severe violations of the rights of many of the arrested minors, including intimidation tactics and cruel practices used by Israeli security forces in occupied east Jerusalem and the West Bank. This also includes arresting minors in the middle of the night and conducting interrogations without the presence of a lawyer or parent. Israel has detained more than 3,000 children each year in the West Bank and that 3,000 to 5,000 minors are detained annually in Israel, including east Jerusalem.

* Kamal Al-Khatib, deputy head of the Islamic movement in the occupied Palestine confirmed that the occupation’s plans to expel Palestinian protestors in Al-Aqsa will not succeed due to the will of the Palestinian youth. This came during a stand in front of the occupation court in Nazareth in solidarity with the imprisoned Ibrahim Khalil. Al-Khatib explained that Palestinian youth are subjected political persecution by the occupation forces.

* The Middle East Eye published a report exploring the current conditions in Palestine a year after the Haifa Uprisings. Efforts to organize protests in the coastal cities, especially Haifa, are ongoing, and this movement has been incorporated into the wider Palestinian body politic, a development that worries the Israeli occupation security establishment, which has failed to stamp out the members of the Karamah uprising among Palestinian citizens of Israel. Activists believe that the events of the Karamah Uprising breathed new life into the Palestinian cause “after Israeli authorities had sought to kill it.”

* The governorates of Sanaa, Ibb, and Amran, which are under the control of the Houthi militia, in Yemen, recorded a significant increase in the rates of domestic murders. Sociologists confirm that the wrong mobilization of youth and children carried out by the militias is behind the transformation of many children into criminals and murderers who are incited against their families and society. Psychological analysts believe that one of the main reasons for the high rate of children committing crimes stems from the wrong patterns of socialization practiced by the militia with children by indoctrinating them and encouraging killing and bloodshed.

* The Middle East Monitor reported that the Mayor of the Turkish city of Bolu has erected banners in Arabic and in Turkish issuing a “last call” and orders for Syrian refugees to leave Turkey and return to Syria. The banners essentially indicated that Syrian refugees “have overstayed their welcome” and “you are no longer wanted, return to your country.” Mayor Ozcan mirrored the banners’ rhetoric in his tweet.

* أفادت صحيفة "ميدل إيست مونيتور" أن عمدة مدينة بولو التركية وضع لافتات باللغتين العربية والتركية لإصدار "نداء أخير" وأوامر للاجئين السوريين بمغادرة تركيا والعودة إلى سوريا. أشارت اللافتات بشكل أساسي إلى أن اللاجئين السوريين "تجاوزوا مدة الترحيب بهم" و "لم يعد مرغوبًا بهم"، و "عودوا إلى بلدكم". وعكس العمدة أوزكان خطاب اللافتات في تغريدة له عبر تويتر.

Development

* The Arab Renaissance Organization for Democracy and Development (ARDD), held a cultural session in Jordan bringing together a number of young trainees. The session responded to the youth's need for channels and platforms that rely on creativity and leadership, as it discussed the importance of media and art and their contribution to raising awareness levels and enhancing social cohesion. This session is part of the comprehensive approach of one of ARDD’s projects, which looks to build the economic, cultural and social capacities of the project's youth. 

* The Capital Youth Directorate, in Jordan, concluded the second batch of the My Skills Program for 2022, organized by the Ministry of Youth in partnership with UNICEF and Generations For Peace. According to the directorate's statement, the 6-day program targeted 150 young men and women for interactive activities in application of the skills that were trained remotely. The program prepares youth for the labor market and provides them with cognitive skills, financial and digital skills, social innovation, development and promotion of leadership and teamwork through joint work skills.

* The Tafila Women's Charitable Association in Jordan launched a youth project for positive change to reduce societal extremism to build the capacity of young people in Tafila Governorate. The president of the association said that the project aims to activate the role of youth in Tafileh, find various ways to eliminate extremism, and open channels of communication between them as leaders in their community. It also provides social and cultural spaces for young men and women with the aim of achieving social cohesion and spreading a culture of tolerance and acceptance of the other, in a manner that enhances social peace and security, and rejects extremism and violence.

* عقدت منظمة النهضة العربية للديمقراطية والتنمية (أرض) دورة ثقافية عقدت في الأردن وجمعت عددا من المتدربين الشباب. واستجابت الجلسة لحاجة الشباب لقنوات ومنصات تعتمد على الإبداع والريادة، حيث ناقشت هذه الدورة أهمية الإعلام والفن ومساهمتهما في رفع مستويات الوعي وتعزيز التماسك الاجتماعي. وتعد هذه الجلسة جزءا من النهج الشامل لأحد مشاريع أرض، والذي يتطلع إلى بناء القدرات الاقتصادية والثقافية والاجتماعية لشباب المشروع.

* اختتمت مديرية شباب العاصمة في الأردن، الدفعة الثانية من برنامج مهاراتي لعام 2022 الذي نظمته وزارة الشباب بالشراكة مع منظمة اليونيسف وهيئة أجيال السلام. وبحسب بيان المديرية، استهدف البرنامج الذي امتد على مدار 6 أيام 150 شابا وفتاة لأنشطة تفاعلية تطبيقا للمهارات التي تم تدريبها عن بعد. يقوم البرنامج بإعداد الشباب لسوق العمل ويزودهم بالمهارات المعرفية، والمهارات المالية والرقمية، والابتكار الاجتماعي، وتطوير وتعزيز القيادة والعمل الجماعي من خلال مهارات العمل المشترك.

* أطلقت جمعية سيدات الطفيلة الخيرية في الأردن مشروع شبابي للتغيير الإيجابي للحد من التطرف المجتمعي، وذلك لبناء قدرات الشباب في محافظة الطفيلة. وقالت رئيسة الجمعية إن المشروع يهدف إلى تفعيل دور الشباب في الطفيلة، وإيجاد سبل مختلفة للقضاء على التطرف، وفتح قنوات اتصال بينهم كقادة في مجتمعهم. كما يوفر المشروع المساحات الاجتماعية والثقافية للشباب والشابات بهدف تحقيق التماسك الاجتماعي ونشر ثقافة التسامح وقبول الآخر بما يعزز السلم والأمن الاجتماعيين ونبذ التطرف والعنف.

Environment

* The Global Land Forum will be launched next Monday for the first time in the MENA region, under the title "Towards Solutions to Climate Change Crises". More than 800 participants and speakers from 78 countries will attend the event to discuss critical issues related to climate change, land and government, food and other topics, according to a statement from the organizers. The Global Land Forum (GLF) is organized once every three years by the International Earth Alliance (ILC) — the largest coalition working on land rights in the world — and Jordan will host the ninth edition of it, represented by the Ministry of Agriculture and the SEEDS Foundation, and in partnership with the European Union.

* In Egypt, a meeting of the National Climate Change Dialogue was carried out last week in cooperation between the Environmental Affairs Agency in Qena and the Directorate of Youth and Sports, within the framework of the “Be Prepared for Green” initiative and Egypt’s hosting of the next climate conference COP27. The session looked to urge youth to take a leading role in preserving the environment.

* ينطلق منتدى الأرض العالمي يوم الإثنين المقبل لأول مرة في منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا، تحت عنوان "نحو حلول لأزمات تغير المناخ". وسيحضر الحدث أكثر من 800 مشارك ومتحدث من 78 دولة لمناقشة القضايا الحاسمة المتعلقة بتغير المناخ والأراضي والحكومة والغذاء ومواضيع أخرى، وفقًا لبيان صادر عن المنظمين. ويتم تنظيم المنتدى العالمي للأراضي مرة واحدة كل ثلاث سنوات من قبل التحالف الدولي للأرض - وهو أكبر تحالف يعمل في مجال حقوق الأراضي في العالم - وسوف تستضيف الأردن النسخة التاسعة من هذا الحدث، ممثلة بوزارة الزراعة، ومؤسسة سيدز، وبالشراكة مع الاتحاد الأوروبي.

Politics and Political Engagement

* The youth organization of the National Rally for Reform and Development (Tawasul) party, in Mauritania, opened its fifth general conference in the old youth house in Nouakchott. The head of the organization, Aali Kasuki stressed that the conference constitutes an important station for objective evaluation and conscious planning for the future of the organization. In his speech, Kasuki pledged that the organization would defend youth and address the problems they face. He expressed his concern about what he described as the systematic exclusion of young people in the political sphere. He called for immediate changes to impose decent representation in the executive bodies along with an electoral list for young people to enable them to acquire a significant percentage in the Mauritanian parliament to convey their voice as an active group and a contributor to their country. 

* The second Youth Forum for Training and Political Dialogue was launched in Aqaba, Jordan, organized by the Media Association for Development and Change. Representative Tammam Al-Riyati confirmed that the House of Representatives approved a number of legislations related to enabling youth and women to participate in political and party work and to run for candidacy at the age of 25, noting that young people now need an opportunity for political participation, after overcoming the challenges they face and finding appropriate solutions to them. The head of the association, Mahmoud Al-Maharma, said that the forum in Aqaba came as part of a series of forums that will be held in the southern governorates with the support of the American Middle East Partnership Initiative and aims to push young people towards partisan and political work, train them, refine their political skills, and engage them in political life. It is noteworthy that 240 young men and women participated in the first and second forums from the governorates of the central and southern regions.

* The Ibbin Iblin Youth Center in Jordan implemented a workshop entitled "Rights and Duties Guaranteed by the Constitution to the Jordanian Citizen", with the participation of 22 young people aged 18-24 years. The workshop focused on the right to freedom, the right to maintain human dignity, the right to belief, the right to own property, and the right to practice political life. The workshop looked to familiarize young people with their rights and duties as guaranteed by the constitution, for its contribution to urging young people to participate in political and social participation in all its dimensions and forms, and to clarify the rules of law established by the state to regulate the lives of individuals.

* Rights groups demonstrated skepticism to an announcement by the Egyptian government that it would be receiving online applications for early release of detainees. Personal Rights and the Association for Freedom of Thought and Expression noted in a statement that the online form only applied to “the release of young people detained in pending cases, with no judicial rulings having been issued against them" and said the committee was only focusing on "imprisoned youth" and people imprisoned for unpaid debts. In the statement it offered an alternative plan for prisoner release in the country. "This proposal considers that any approach to addressing the file of political prisoners will not be fair, equitable and effective unless it includes all those held in pretrial detention as well as those convicted on political charges, whether they are 'youth', children, minors, elderly, or those with health and humanitarian conditions, and all those currently deprived of their liberty for political reasons or charges."

* Iranian authorities arrested at least 22 demonstrators who had been protesting sudden price hikes of subsidized staple foods in two southern cities. This followed an announcement that the cost of cooking oil, chicken, eggs and milk would rise by as much as 300%. IRNA news agency reported that 15 people were arrested overnight in the southwestern city of Dezful in Khuzestan province, as well as seven others in the city of Yasuj in Kohgiluyeh-Boyerahmad Province in the south. The report also said that 200 people had gathered in another city in Andimeshk in Khuzestan province.

* افتتحت المنظمة الشبابية لحزب التجمع الوطني للإصلاح والتنمية (تواصل) في موريتانيا مؤتمرها العام الخامس في دار الشباب القديم بنواكشوط. وأكد رئيس المنظمة، علي كسوكي، أن المؤتمر يشكل محطة مهمة للتقييم الموضوعي والتخطيط الواعي لمستقبل المنظمة. وتعهد كسوكي في خطابه بأن المنظمة ستدافع عن الشباب وستعمل نحو التصدي لمختلف المشكلات التي يواجهونها. وأعرب كسوكي عن قلقه مما وصفه بالإقصاء الممنهج للشباب من الحياة العامة والحياة السياسية. ودعا كسوكي إلى إجراء تغييرات فورية لفرض تمثيل لائق في الأجهزة التنفيذية للشباب إلى جانب قائمة انتخابية للشباب لتمكينهم من الحصول على نسبة كبيرة في البرلمان الموريتاني وذلك لإيصال صوتهم كمجموعة فاعلة ومساهمة في تنمية بلدهم.

 

* انطلق منتدى الشباب الثاني للتدريب والحوار السياسي في محافظة العقبة في الأردن، والذي نظمته الجمعية الإعلامية للتنمية والتغيير. وأكدت النائبة تمام الرياطي أن مجلس النواب أقر عددا من التشريعات المتعلقة بتمكين الشباب والمرأة من المشاركة في العمل السياسي والحزبي والترشح للترشح عن عمر 25 عاما، مشيرة إلى أن الشباب الآن بحاجة إلى فرصة المشاركة السياسية، بعد تجاوز التحديات التي تواجههم وإيجاد الحلول المناسبة لها. وقال رئيس الجمعية محمود المحارمة إن الملتقى في العقبة جاء ضمن سلسلة من المنتديات التي ستعقد في المحافظات الجنوبية بدعم من مبادرة الشراكة الأمريكية الشرق أوسطية وتهدف إلى دفع الشباب نحو العمل الحزبي والسياسي وتدريبهم وصقل مهاراتهم السياسية وإشراكهم في الحياة السياسية. والجدير بالذكر، أن 240 شابا وشابة شاركوا في الملتقيين الأول والثاني ممثلين محافظات الوسط والجنوب.

 

* نفذ مركز شباب عبين عبلين في الأردن ورشة عمل بعنوان "الحقوق والواجبات التي يكفلها الدستور للمواطن الأردني"، بمشاركة 22 شابا تتراوح أعمارهم بين 18-24 سنة. ركزت ورشة العمل على الحق في الحرية، الحق في صيانة الكرامة الإنسانية ،الحق في الاعتقاد، الحق بالحماية داخل، الحق بالتملك، والحق بممارسة الحياة السياسية. وتطلعت الورشة إلى تعريف الشباب بحقوقهم وواجباتهم التي يكفلها الدستور، لمساهمتها في حث الشباب على المشاركة السياسية والاجتماعية بجميع أبعادها وأشكالها، وتوضيح قواعد القانون التي أرستها الدولة لتنظيم حياة الأفراد.

* أبدت الجماعات الحقوقية شكوكها إزاء إعلان الحكومة المصرية أنها ستتلقى طلبات عبر الإنترنت للإفراج المبكر عن المعتقلين، حيث أشارت منظمة الحقوق الشخصية ومؤسسة حرية الفكر والتعبير في بيان لها إلى أن النموذج الإلكتروني ينطبق فقط على "إطلاق سراح الشباب المحتجزين في قضايا معلقة، دون صدور أحكام قضائية ضدهم"، وقالتا إن اللجنة تركز فقط حول "الشباب المسجونين" والأشخاص المسجونين بسبب ديون غير مدفوعة. وقدم البيان في البيان خطة بديلة للإفراج عن السجناء في البلاد". ويعتبر هذا الاقتراح أن أي نهج لمعالجة ملف السجناء السياسيين لن يكون عادلاً ومنصفاً وفعالاً ما لم ويشمل جميع المحتجزين على ذمة المحاكمة وكذلك المدانين بتهم سياسية، سواء كانوا شبابًا أو أطفالًا أو قاصرين أو كبار السن أو من يعانون من ظروف صحية وإنسانية، وجميع الأشخاص المحرومين حاليًا من حريتهم لأسباب سياسية أو تهم أخرى."

 

* اعتقلت السلطات الإيرانية ما لا يقل عن 22 متظاهرا كانوا يحتجون على الارتفاع المفاجئ في أسعار المواد الغذائية الأساسية المدعومة في مدينتين جنوبيتين. وجاء ذلك بعد الإعلان عن ارتفاع تكلفة زيت الطهي والدجاج والبيض والحليب بنسبة تصل إلى 300٪. أفادت وكالة أنباء إيرنا، أن 15 شخصا اعتقلوا خلال الليل في مدينة دزفول جنوب غرب محافظة خوزستان، فضلا عن سبعة آخرين في مدينة ياسوج في محافظة كوهجيلويه بويرأحمد في الجنوب. وذكر التقرير أيضا أن 200 شخص قد تجمعوا في مدينة أخرى – أنديمشك في محافظة خوزستان.

Economics and Entrepreneurship

* Ennahar TV aired a report discussing the challenges Algerian youth face when they embark on entrepreneurial journeys. The report outlines who youth who benefited from the national fund for unemployment insurance looked to utilize their benefits toward starting their own projects, yet the moment they face any lack of funds, their files get sent to the Ministry of Micro Enterprises, with little to not support. The report indicates that more than a 1,000 young Algerians have been facing blockages on their projects for over 6 months.

* The University of Mosul in Iraq organized a job fair attended by 40 companies ranged between local and French companies. The fair, which ran for three days, offered hope to Ninewa’s unemployed youth. "Unemployment is perhaps the ogre that devours the dreams of the young," said Qussay al-Ahmad, president of the University of Mosul, as unemployment rate stands at around 40% in Ninewa. Attendees hoped that the job fair would lead to employment opportunities. The job fair is part of a project called Yanhad, financed by France and the European Union. Yanhad had already supported a business incubator, which has trained about 320 young people in entrepreneurship and financed a dozen start-ups.

* بثت قناة النهار تقريرا يناقش التحديات التي يواجهها الشباب الجزائري عندما يشرعون في رحلات ريادة الأعمال. يحدد التقرير أن الشباب الذين استفادوا من الصندوق الوطني للتأمين ضد البطالة والذين يتطلعون إلى الاستفادة من مزاياهم في بدء مشاريعهم الخاصة، يواجهون تحديات جسيمة، وتحديدا نقص الدعم المالي لمشاريعهم، مما يؤدي إلى تحويل ملفاتهم إلى وزارة المؤسسات المصغرة. ويشير التقرير إلى أن أكثر من 1000 شاب جزائري يواجهون تحدي تعليق مشاريعهم منذ أكثر من 6 أشهر.

* نظمت جامعة الموصل في العراق معرضا للتوظيف حضرته 40 شركة بين الشركات المحلية والفرنسية. المعرض الذي استمر لمدة ثلاثة أيام أعطى الأمل لشباب محافظة نينوى العاطلين عن العمل. وقال قصي الأحمد، رئيس جامعة الموصل، "ربما تكون البطالة هي الغول الذي يلتهم أحلام الشباب"، حيث تبلغ نسبة البطالة حوالي 40٪ في محافظة نينوى. ويأمل الشباب الذين حضروا المعرض في أن يؤدي إلى توفير فرص عمل. ويعد معرض الوظائف جزءا من مشروع يسمى ينهض، بتمويل من فرنسا والاتحاد الأوروبي. ودعم مشروع ينهض حاضنة أعمال والتي قامت بتدريب حوالي 320 شابًا على ريادة الأعمال، كما مولت عشرات الشركات الناشئة.

Conflict

* Middle East Eye published a report following the assassination of Palestinian veteran journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, who was shot by an Israeli sniper, as she was covering a dawn raid in Jenin in the occupied West Bank. The report highlights that there was a formal complaint filed with the International Criminal Court (ICC) alleging that Israel’s “systematic targeting” of Palestinian journalists and its failure to investigate their killings amounted to war crimes. Tahseen al-Astal, the deputy head of the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate, stated that Israel’s "aim [is] to silence and prevent the factual press image from being conveyed to the world." In fact, since 2000, 40 Palestinian journalists were killed by Israeli occupation forces, 34 of whom are youth. 

* A Palestinian was wounded by Israeli fire during an operation in the northern occupied West Bank city of Jenin on Friday, as reported by the Palestinian news agency Wafa. “Israeli forces Friday morning pounded a house with missiles and injured a Palestinian youth on the outskirts of Jenin refugee camp.” The raid triggered violent confrontations that saw the soldiers opening live fire towards young people attempting to block their passage, hitting one with a bullet in the abdomen.”

* Intisar Al-Awawda, a Palestinian activist and a parliamentary candidate, said that Jerusalem knows the courage of the youth of Palestine, who will not allow settlers to insult Al-Aqsa Mosque, and will not leave it alone because it represents their spirit, honor, and life. She explained that the youth of Palestine know the mission, and they will not leave Al-Aqsa alone and will defend it and win their battle. She also praised the heroism of the youth who drove the occupation out of Jenin.

* نشر موقع "ميدل إيست آي" تقريراً بعد اغتيال الصحفية الفلسطينية شيرين أبو عقلة برصاص قناص إسرائيلي، أثناء تغطيتها غارة فجراً في جنين بالضفة الغربية المحتلة. ويسلط التقرير الضوء على أن هناك شكوى رسمية قُدمت إلى المحكمة الجنائية الدولية تزعم أن "الاستهداف المنهجي" لإسرائيل للصحفيين الفلسطينيين وفشلها في التحقيق في مقتلهم يعد من مستوى جرائم الحرب. وصرح تحسين الأسطل، نائب رئيس نقابة الصحفيين الفلسطينيين، بأن "هدف إسرائيل هو إسكات ومنع نقل الصورة الواقعية للصحافة إلى العالم". والواقع أنه منذ عام 2000 قتل 40 صحفياً فلسطينياً على أيدي قوات الاحتلال الإسرائيلي، 34 منهم من الشباب.

* ذكرت وكالة الانباء الفلسطينية وفا ان فلسطينيا اصيب بنيران اسرائيلية خلال عملية في مدينة جنين شمال الضفة الغربية المحتلة اليوم الجمعة. واضافت ان "القوات الاسرائيلية قصفت صباح الجمعة منزلا بالصواريخ واصابت شابا فلسطينيا في أطراف مخيم جنين". وتسببت هذه المداهمة في مواجهات عنيفة، حيث أطلق الجنود الرصاص الحي باتجاه شبان حاولوا سد طريقهم، مما أدى إلى إصابة أحدهم بعيار ناري في البطن ".

* قالت انتصار العواودة، الناشطة الفلسطينية والمرشحة للانتخابات، إن القدس تعرف شجاعة شباب فلسطين الذين لن يسمحوا للمستوطنين بإهانة المسجد الأقصى، ولن يتركه وحده لأنه يمثل روحهم وشرفهم، وحياتهم. وأوضحت العواودة أن شباب فلسطين يعرفون الرسالة ولن يتركوا الأقصى وحده وسيدافعون عنها وسينتصرون في معركتهم. كما أشادت الناشطة ببطولة الشباب الذين أخرجوا الاحتلال من جنين.

Development

* International Alert in Tunisia presented the results of a research study on the mental health of young people from 3 neighborhoods across the country. The results show that more than 40% of young people stated that they do not have health coverage, 50% are always considering emigration, especially among males, and 71% do not have access to any cultural activity or entertainment or sports. Further, in response to the question about the repercussions of the COVID-19 crisis on their work, 30% of youth were either fired from their work, or a member of their families was expelled . 27% of young people aged 18-29 years also said that their psychological conditions are bad or very bad, and almost the same percentage expressed the need to visit a psychiatrist or obtain psychological support, noting that only one person out of every eight young people managed to do so.

* Shamma bint Suhail Al Mazrouei, the Emirati Minister of State for Youth Affairs, affirmed that the UAE government places youth at the center of its initiatives aimed at promoting the achievement of sustainable development goals. This came during a speech she gave during an open session with members of the Young Leaders for the Sustainable Development Goals. She said: "Youth forms a pillar of the government's initiatives to achieve sustainability goals, which we bet on to excel in various fields". She added that the participation of youth in the Young Leaders Program for the Sustainable Development Goals contributes to increasing their skills, building their capabilities, and accelerating the development process in the country and the region. It also enhances their contributions to designing policies and initiatives launched by federal and local governments to enhance global efforts to achieve sustainability.

* قدمت منظمة "إنترناشونال أليرت" في تونس نتائج دراسة بحثية حول الصحة العقلية للشباب استطلعت آراء شباب من 3 أحياء شعبية في تونس. أظهرت النتائج أن أكثر من 40٪ من الشباب ذكروا أنهم لا يتمتعون بتغطية صحية، و50٪ يفكرون دائمًا في الهجرة، خاصة بين الذكور، و71٪ لا يمكنهم الوصول إلى أي نشاط ثقافي أو ترفيه أو رياضة. علاوة على ذلك، رداً على سؤال حول تداعيات أزمة جائحة كورونا على عملهم، تبين أنه قد تم فصل 30٪ من الشباب من عملهم أو طرد أحد أفراد أسرهم. كما ذكر 27٪ من الشباب الذين تتراوح أعمارهم بين 18 و29 عامًا أن حالتهم النفسية سيئة أو سيئة للغاية، وعبّرت النسبة نفسها تقريبًا عن حاجتهم لزيارة طبيب نفسي أو الحصول على دعم نفسي، مشيرين إلى أن شخصًا واحدًا فقط من بين كل ثمانية شباب تمكن من القيام بذلك.

* أكدت شما بنت سهيل المزروعي وزيرة الدولة الإماراتية لشؤون الشباب، أن حكومة الإمارات تضع الشباب في صميم مبادراتها الهادفة إلى تعزيز تحقيق أهداف التنمية المستدامة. وقد جاء ذلك خلال كلمة ألقتها خلال جلسة مفتوحة مع أعضاء القيادات الشابة لأهداف التنمية المستدامة. وقالت المزروعي: "الشباب ركيزة من ركائز مبادرات الحكومة لتحقيق أهداف الاستدامة التي نراهن عليها بالتفوق في مختلف المجالات". وأضافت أن مشاركة الشباب في برنامج القيادات الشابة لأهداف التنمية المستدامة يساهم في زيادة مهاراتهم وبناء قدراتهم وتسريع عملية التنمية في الدولة والمنطقة. كما أنه يعزز مساهماتهم في تصميم السياسات والمبادرات التي أطلقتها الحكومات الاتحادية والمحلية لتعزيز الجهود العالمية لتحقيق الاستدامة.

Education

* The Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sports, in cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, inaugurated the activities of the first forum of university youth parliament officials, with the participation of 33 governmental, private, and technological universities, from May 10 to 13. The opening session discussed Parliamentary oversight functions, management and tools, and parliamentary work mechanisms. The forum looks to raise awareness of the importance of parliamentary work among youth and to hone their public speaking skills and enhance their self-confidence and knowledge of parliamentary work mechanisms. It also looks to provide students with the opportunity to express their opinions and ideas on current affairs. 

* The Engineers Syndicate in Alexandria, Egypt, organized the first youth forum to bring engineers together and link young people to their union, an idea that came from the Syndicate Council in the governorate, to unite engineers, increase their knowledge and advance the profession.

* افتتحت وزارة الشباب والرياضة المصرية، بالتعاون مع وزارة التعليم العالي والبحث العلمي، فعاليات الملتقى الأول لمسؤولي برلمان الشباب الجامعي، بمشاركة 33 جامعة حكومية، خاصة، وتكنولوجية، والتي عقدت في الفترة من 10 إلى 13 من أيار / مايو الحالي. وناقشت الجلسة الافتتاحية مهام الرقابة البرلمانية وإدارتها وأدواتها وآليات العمل البرلماني. كما يهدف المنتدى إلى رفع مستوى الوعي لدى الشباب بأهمية العمل البرلماني، بالإضافة إلى صقل مهارات الخطابة لديهم وتعزيز ثقتهم بأنفسهم ودعم معرفتهم بآليات العمل البرلماني. كما يتطلع الملتقى إلى تزويد الطلاب بفرصة التعبير عن آرائهم وأفكارهم حول الشؤون الجارية في الدولة.

* نظمت نقابة المهندسين بالإسكندرية بمصر الملتقى الشبابي الأول لجمع المهندسين وربط الشباب بنقابتهم، وهي فكرة جاءت من مجلس نقابة المهندسين بالمحافظة لتوحيد المهندسين وزيادة معارفهم والنهوض بالمهنة.

Environment

* The activities of the Climate Change Festival, under the slogan “Youth for Green”, were launched in Alexandria, Egypt, to raise awareness of climate changes in cooperation with the German Embassy and the Directorate of Youth and Sports in Alexandria. The activities aim to spread environmental awareness and climate issues among youth, with the participation of 853 young men and women, who were urged to carry out several climate-related activities in the shortest time, in addition to presenting the various initiatives and their interactive results.

* Mansoura University in Egypt organized the eleventh Young Researchers Forum entitled "The Role of Scientific Research in Achieving Sustainable Development" within the framework of the university's golden jubilee celebration. The head of the Graduate Studies and Research Affairs department noted Mansoura University's continuous support for researchers in the Faculty of Science by funding the projects of 17 researchers out of a total of 60 researchers at the university, and promised to continue providing support to the faculty and its researchers. He called for the necessity of research attention to the issues of energy, water and climate, and linking research with industry to achieve Egypt's Vision 2030. The forum included 42 research papers presented by a number of researchers. On the sidelines of this forum, 7 scientific lectures were given: Climate challenges and sustainability of water sources; new polyethers with superior separation properties for carbon capture; nanometric biosensors: the future of health diagnosis; problems of applying scientific research results in the fields of renewable energy; industry and agriculture, the role of intelligence Synthetic in early detection of hypertension; Microorganisms for sustainable agricultural development; and Synthesis of Dye solar cells: basic concepts and structural design.

* The Egyptian Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation stressed the need to expand scientific research in the field of water to find scientific solutions to maximize the yield of water. He pointed to the role of young researchers in finding innovative solutions and new ideas to deal with the challenges facing the water sector during the coming period. This came during discussions between the Minister of Irrigation and representatives of the Dutch International Cooperation Group, on a number of water issues.

* The Kafr Mit El Ezz Youth Center in Dakahlia Governorate in Egypt, carried out a health education activity for youth, a symposium on environmental pollution. The lecturer spoke about pollution and its damage to the environment. It is noteworthy that the implementation of this symposium comes within the framework of the interest of the Ministry of Youth and Sports to intensify activities and programs within youth centers.

* انطلقت فعاليات مهرجان تغير المناخ، تحت شعار "شباب من أجل الأخضر"، في محافظة الإسكندرية في مصر، وذلك للتوعية بالتغيرات المناخية. وجاءت الفعالية بالتعاون مع السفارة الألمانية ومديرية الشباب والرياضة بالإسكندرية. وتهدف الأنشطة إلى نشر الوعي البيئي وقضايا المناخ بين الشباب، بمشاركة 853 شاب وشابة، تم من خلال المهرجان حثهم على القيام بعدة أنشطة متعلقة بالمناخ للاستجابة إلى التحديات على المدى القريب، بالإضافة إلى عرض المبادرات المختلفة ونتائجها التفاعلية.

* نظمت جامعة المنصورة في مصر الملتقى الحادي عشر للباحثين الشباب بعنوان "دور البحث العلمي في تحقيق التنمية المستدامة" في إطار احتفال الجامعة باليوبيل الذهبي. وأشار رئيس قسم شئون الدراسات العليا والبحوث إلى دعم جامعة المنصورة المستمر للباحثين في كلية العلوم من خلال تمويل مشاريع 17 باحثًا من إجمالي 60 باحثًا في الجامعة، ووعد بمواصلة تقديم الدعم للكلية وباحثيها. ودعا إلى ضرورة الاهتمام البحثي بقضايا الطاقة والمياه والمناخ، وربط البحث بالصناعة لتحقيق رؤية مصر 2030. وتضمن المنتدى 42 ورقة بحثية قدمها عدد من الباحثين. وألقيت على هامش هذا المنتدى 7 محاضرات علمية وهي: التحديات المناخية واستدامة مصادر المياه؛ بولي إيثرات جديدة ذات خصائص فصل فائقة لالتقاط الكربون؛ أجهزة الاستشعار الحيوية النانومترية: مستقبل التشخيص الصحي؛ مشاكل تطبيق نتائج البحث العلمي في مجالات الطاقة المتجددة؛ الصناعة والزراعة، دور الذكاء الاصطناعي في الكشف المبكر عن ارتفاع ضغط الدم؛ الكائنات الدقيقة من أجل التنمية الزراعية المستدامة؛ وتوليف الخلايا الشمسية الصبغية: المفاهيم الأساسية والتصميم الهيكلي.

* شدد وزير الموارد المائية والري المصري على ضرورة التوسع في البحث العلمي في مجال المياه لإيجاد حلول علمية لتعظيم مردود المياه. وأشار الوزير أيضا إلى أهمية دور الباحثين الشباب في إيجاد حلول مبتكرة وأفكار جديدة للتعامل مع التحديات التي تواجه قطاع المياه خلال الفترة المقبلة. وجاء ذلك خلال مباحثات بين وزير الري وممثلي مجموعة التعاون الدولي الهولندية حول عدد من قضايا المياه.

* نفذ مركز شباب كفر ميت العز بمحافظة الدقهلية بمصر، نشاطا تثقيفيا صحيا للشباب ضمن ندوة عن تلوث البيئة. وتحدث المحاضر عن التلوث واضراره بالبيئة. ويشار إلى أن تنفيذ هذه الندوة يأتي في إطار اهتمام وزارة الشباب والرياضة بتكثيف الأنشطة والبرامج داخل المراكز الشبابية.

Politics and Political Engagement

* The Arab Meeting for Young Leaders held its first session in Dubai, as part of the World Government Summit 2022, with many youth ministers from across the Arab world and Arab youth action leaders participating. During this session, they discussed a recent study led by the Arab youth center, which focuses on youth policies in the region. The main objective of the study is to set the standard for what the national policy should be with regards to empowering the youth. The recommendations of the study include: conducting societal dialogues that are inclusive of all, crystallizing the state's vision for the role and empowerment of the youth.

* عقد الاجتماع العربي للقادة الشباب دورته الأولى في دبي، كجزء من القمة العالمية للحكومات لعام 2022، وذلك بمشاركة العديد من وزراء الشباب من جميع أنحاء العالم العربي وقادة العمل الشبابي العربي. وناقض الحضور خلال هذه الجلسة دراسة حديثة قام بنشرها مركز الشباب العربي، والتي تركز على سياسات الشباب في المنطقة. وكان الهدف الرئيسي من الدراسة هو وضع معيار لما ينبغي أن تكون عليه السياسة الوطنية فيما يتعلق بتمكين الشباب. وتشمل توصيات الدراسة: إجراء حوارات مجتمعية شاملة للجميع وبلورة رؤية الدولة لدور الشباب وتمكينهم.

Economics and Entrepreneurship

* The Arab Monetary Fund (AMF) has emphasized the importance of financial inclusion in order to foster economic growth in the region. The AMF called upon the Arab governments and banking institutions in the region to improve upon social responsibility and to resort to sustainable finance in order to empower the more vulnerable communities, such as the youth and women. 

* His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Prime Minister of the UAE, launched an initiative named "One Million Arab Coders" in 2017. Since its launch, the initiative has allowed thousands of young Arabs to explore their interests in technology and entrepreneurship. The initiative was led on a very large scale, with over 76 000 workshops and 100,000 projects, in which people from 80 countries around the world took part in. Now, young Arabs will be competing for a prize of $1 million, by presenting six different projects that they were able to complete thanks to the training they received through the program. The results will be announced during the week.

* The association Alwani Bahrain has announced that it would create a youth committee in order to help the association implement initiatives, projects and programs that will empower the youth of Bahrain. Mariam Ali, the chair of the committee, has stated that the committee will allow the youth to expand upon their creativity and innovation, by exploring areas such as new technologies, blockchain and digital currencies. She also emphasized that the committee's aim to empower young Bahraini women, allowing them to reach financial independence and acquire financial literacy, which is in line with the objectives of the Alwani Association.

* Inflation in Lebanon has reached new highs, pushing the youth out of the country. An article on Sawt Beirut focuses on a specific consequence of this mass emigration: the impact it has on familial and social relationships. The youth in Lebanon feels like it must choose between a life at home with their loved ones, but without any prospects of an adequate quality of life, or a life full of economic possibilities but lacking in close relationships with family and loved ones.

الاقتصاد وريادة الأعمال

* أكد صندوق النقد العربي على أهمية الشمول المالي من أجل تعزيز النمو الاقتصادي في المنطقة. كما دعا صندوق النقد العربي الحكومات العربية والمؤسسات المصرفية في المنطقة إلى تحسين جهود المسؤولية الاجتماعية واللجوء إلى التمويل المستدام من أجل تمكين المجتمعات الأكثر ضعفاً، بما في ذلك الشباب والنساء.

* أطلق صاحب السمو الشيخ محمد بن راشد آل مكتوم، رئيس وزراء دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة، مبادرة بعنوان "مليون مبرمج عربي" في عام 2017. ومنذ إطلاقها، أتاحت المبادرة لآلاف الشباب العرب استكشاف اهتماماتهم في مجال التكنولوجيا وريادة الأعمال. تمت قيادة المبادرة على نطاق واسع للغاية، مع عقد أكثر من 76000 ورشة عمل وانتاج 100000 مشروع، شارك فيها أشخاص من 80 دولة حول العالم. الآن، سيتنافس الشباب العرب على جائزة قدرها مليون دولار، من خلال تقديم ستة المشاريع المختلفة التي تمكنوا من إكمالها بفضل التدريب الذي تلقوه من خلال البرنامج. سيتم إعلان النتائج خلال الأسبوع.

* أعلنت جمعية ألواني البحرين أنها ستشكل لجنة شبابية لمساعدة الجمعية في تنفيذ المبادرات والمشاريع والبرامج التي من شأنها تمكين شباب البحرين. وصرحت مريم علي، رئيسة اللجنة، أن اللجنة ستسمح للشباب بالتوسع في إبداعهم وابتكارهم، من خلال استكشاف مجالات مثل التقنيات الجديدة، والبلوكتشين والعملات الرقمية. وأكدت السيدة مريم علي أن هدف اللجنة هو تمكين الشابات البحرينيات، بما يتيح لهن الوصول إلى الاستقلال المالي واكتساب الثقافة المالية، بما يتماشى مع أهداف جمعية ألواتي.

* بلغ التضخم في لبنان مستويات عالية جديدة، مما يدفع الشباب نحو مغادرة البلاد. ويركز مقال في موقع "صوت بيروت" على نتيجة محددة لهذه الهجرة الجماعية: تأثيرها على العلاقات العائلية والصداقات. يشعر الشباب في لبنان أنه يجب عليهم الاختيار بين الحياة في المنزل مع ذويهم، ولكن دون أي احتمالات لنوعية حياة مناسبة، أو اختيار حياة مليئة بالإمكانيات الاقتصادية ولكن تفتقر إلى العلاقات الوثيقة مع العائلة والأحباء.

Conflict

* In the West Bank, three young Palestinians were shot and killed by Israeli soldiers in three separate incidents. Over the past month, 25 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces.

* في الضفة الغربية، أطلق الجنود الإسرائيليون النار على ثلاثة شبان فلسطينيين وقتلوهم في ثلاث حوادث منفصلة. خلال الشهر الماضي، قتلت القوات الإسرائيلية 25 فلسطينيا.

Development

* Karim Darwish, the head of the administration of the Arab Planning Institute announced that the largest Scout Forum in the Arab world will take place in Kuwait. Under the slogan "Empowering youth", the event is organized through the collaboration of the Arab Planning Institute, the Arab Scout organization, the Kuwaiti Scout Association and the Kuwaiti Girl Guides Association. The event will take place between May 7 and May 12, where 170 participants, from all Arab countries, will attend training workshops and panel discussions which will be focusing on various aspects of development.

* The Bahraini association "Al Kalima Al Taiba" in collaboration with the Arab Planning Institute, has launched the second edition of an initiative meant to prepare young leaders. This initiative will be officially launched by the end of May, with the objective of solving developmental problems in Bahrain and creating new young leaders by promoting the volunteer work led by the youth in the country and amplifying their voices.

* The first edition of the Young Moroccan Architecture Awards is set to take place, after initially being scheduled in 2020 and being cancelled due to the pandemic. The event is organized by Archimedia Group, the leading group in architecture in Morocco, to encourage excellence in architectural practices give recognition to the younger architects. Registration for the competition is open until May 18th, for architects under the age of 45.

* In Egypt, youth centers around the country received around 4 million visitors on Eid al-Fitr, according to the Ministry of Youth and Sports. This happened in the context of a new initiative launched by the ministry, entitled "Eid is sweeter in Egypt's youth centers", which aims to heighten the visibility of youth centers in the country and activate their role on a societal level. Ashraf Sobhy, the Minister of Youth and Sports, organized various celebrations on Eid, featuring activities that attracted local youth.

* The Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sports has recently opened 20 Communication and Skills Development Centers across the country. These centers are meant to help the local youth improve their communication skills; through the free services they provide. Young people will be able to develop their speech skills, learn about behavior change and skills development, as well as receive a psychological assessment.

* Hajar El-Beltagy, a young Egyptian architect and member of the Arab Youth Group, was chosen to participate in the Danish outdoor photo exhibition entitled "Arabian Dreams", through which the Arab youth in Denmark shares their experiences. The exhibition is meant to shed light on the activities led by the Arab youth and break the stereotypes surrounding them.

* On Sunday, the Diana Award was introduced to the Omani National Museum. Launched in 1999, the Diana Award is meant to encourage the youth to participate in community service, as it awards a young person between the ages of 9 to 25 for any humanitarian action they might engage in. Her Highness Sayyida Basma al Said, who hosted this Sunday's event, will be the first and only Arab judge for the award. She has stated that the event is "for the youth and by the youth with the aim of establishing a world full of compassionate young people."

* أعلن كريم درويش رئيس إدارة المعهد العربي للتخطيط أن أكبر منتدى كشفي في الوطن العربي سيعقد في الكويت. تحت شعار "تمكين الشباب"، سيتم تنظيم الفعالية بالتعاون مع المعهد العربي للتخطيط، ومنظمة الكشافة العربية، وجمعية الكشافة الكويتية، وجمعية المرشدات الكويتية. وسيقام الحدث في الفترة ما بين 7 و 12 أيار / مايو الحالي، حيث سيحضر حوالي 170 مشاركًا، من جميع الدول العربية، والذين سيحضرون ورش عمل تدريبية وحلقات نقاش تركز على مختلف جوانب التنمية.

* أطلقت الجمعية البحرينية "الكلمة الطيبة" بالتعاون مع المعهد العربي للتخطيط النسخة الثانية من مبادرة تهدف إلى إعداد القيادات الشابة. وسيتم إطلاق هذه المبادرة رسميًا بحلول نهاية شهر أيار / مايو الحالي، بهدف حل مشاكل التنمية في البحرين وخلق قادة شباب جدد من خلال تعزيز العمل التطوعي الذي يقوده الشباب في الدولة وتضخيم أصواتهم.

* من المقرر أن تنطلق النسخة الأولى من جوائز الشباب المغربي للعمارة، بعد أن تم تحديد موعدها مبدئيًا في عام 2020 ولكن تم إلغائها بسبب جائحة كورونا. وتنظم مجموعة آركيميديا هذا الحدث، وهي المجموعة الرائدة في مجال الهندسة المعمارية في المغرب، وذلك لتشجيع التميز في الممارسات المعمارية ومنح التقدير للمعماريين الشباب. التسجيل في المسابقة مفتوح حتى 18 أيار / مايو للمهندسين المعماريين الذين تقل أعمارهم عن 45 عامًا.

* في مصر، استقبلت مراكز الشباب في جميع أنحاء البلاد حوالي 4 ملايين زائر خلال فترة عيد الفطر، وذلك وفقًا لوزارة الشباب والرياضة. وجاء ذلك في سياق مبادرة جديدة أطلقتها الوزارة بعنوان "العيد أحلى في مراكز شباب مصر"، والتي تهدف إلى إبراز دور مراكز الشباب في الدولة وتفعيل دورها على المستوى المجتمعي. ونظم أشرف صبحي وزير الشباب والرياضة، احتفالات متنوعة بالعيد، تضمنت أنشطة استقطبت الشباب المحلي.

* افتتحت وزارة الشباب والرياضة المصرية مؤخرًا 20 مركزًا للتواصل وتنمية المهارات في جميع أنحاء البلاد. وتهدف هذه المراكز إلى مساعدة الشباب المحلي على تحسين مهارات الاتصال لديهم؛ من خلال الخدمات المجانية التي يقدمونها. وسيتمكن الشباب من تطوير مهارات الكلام لديهم، والتعرف على تغيير السلوك وتنمية المهارات، بالإضافة إلى حصولهم على تقييم نفسي.

* تم اختيار هاجر البلتاجي، وهي مهندسة معمارية مصرية شابة وعضو في مجموعة الشباب العربي، للمشاركة في معرضالصور الدنماركي الذي يحمل عنوان "أحلام عربية"، والذي من خلاله يشارك الشباب العربي في الدنمارك تجاربهم. ويهدف المعرض إلى تسليط الضوء على الأنشطة التي يقودها الشباب العربي وكسر الصور النمطية المحيطة بهم.

* تم تقديم جائزة ديانا إلى المتحف الوطني العماني يوم الأحد الماضي. وتهدف جائزة ديانا، التي تم إطلاقها في عام 1999، إلى تشجيع الشباب على المشاركة في خدمة المجتمع، حيث تمنح الشباب الذين تتراوح أعمارهم بين 9 و 25 عاما لأي عمل إنساني قد يشاركون فيه. وستكون صاحبة السمو السيدة بسمة آل سعيد، التي استضافت هذا الحدث يوم الأحد، القاضية العربية الأولى والوحيدة للجائزة. وقد ذكرت أن الحدث هو " للشباب والشباب بهدف إقامة عالم مليء بالشباب الرحيمين."

Education

* The nomination period for the Abu Dhabi Awards, which recognizes the contributions people have made for the Emirate, is currently ongoing. Fatima Al Kaabi, a past recipient of the Award, has stated that the recognition has encouraged her to work harder and to continue inspiring Emirati youth. She tutors and hosts workshops, with the goal of encouraging young Emiratis to pursue a path in science, engineering, and technology (STEM).

* A team of young Saudis will be participating in the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair in Atlanta. This team is composed of students who had won the National Olympiad for Scientific Creativity, which was awarded to them by the King Abdullah and his Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba).

التعليم

* لا تزال فترة الترشيح لجائزة أبو ظبي، التي تعترف بالمساهمات التي قدموها للإمارة، مستمرة. وصرحت فاطمة الكعبي، الفائزة السابقة بالجائزة، أن التكريم شجعها على العمل بجدية أكبر ومواصلة إلهام الشباب الإماراتي. وتقوم الكعبي بتدريس واستضافة ورش عمل بهدف تشجيع الشباب الإماراتي على متابعة مسار في العلوم والهندسة والتكنولوجيا.

* سيشارك فريق من الشباب السعودي في معرض ريجينيرون الدولي للعلوم والهندسة في أتلانتا في الولايات المتحدة. ويتكون هذا الفريق من الطلاب الذين فازوا بالأولمبياد الوطني للإبداع العلمي الذي منحته لهم مؤسسة الملك عبد الله ورجاله للموهبة والإبداع (موهبة).

Environment

* Ahmed Mayas, a young Jordanian, has managed to grow his vegetables without water. He resorts instead to the use of volcanic stones, which are able to keep moisture and are used as an alternative to soil. Being from Jordan, the third poorest country in water, Mayas began searching for ways to save water when growing his crops. Mayas explains that he still needs government support in order to continue his project, and has new ideas that enable farmers to work to overcome the frost season, which severely affects crops.

* تمكن أحمد مياس، وهو شاب أردني، من زراعة خضرواته بدون ماء، حيث يستخدم بدلا من ذلك الأحجار البركانية القادرة على الحفاظ على الرطوبة والتي تستخدم كبديل للتربة. وكونه من الأردن، والتي تعد ثالث أفقر دولة في المياه، بدأ مياس في البحث عن طرق لتوفير المياه عند زراعة محاصيله. ويوضح مياس أنه لا يزال بحاجة إلى دعم حكومي من أجل مواصلة مشروعه، ولديه أفكار جديدة تمكن المزارعين من العمل للتغلب على موسم الصقيع، الذي يؤثر بشدة على المحاصيل في الأردن.

Politics and Political Engagement

* A new youth political movement in Swaida has emerged in Syria, which includes 46 women and young people from those with scientific competencies and activists in society. The movements aim is to solve all the issues facing Syria today. The movement has yet to take up its position in Syrian politics, as they seem to abandon the notion of with or against. They believe that with the absence of political identities and organized intellectual groups, militias and foreign-sponsored civil society groups have risen. 

* The head of the "Democratic Meeting", MP Timur Jumblatt, stressed during a tour of several villages and towns in the Chouf alongside the resigned MP Marwan Hamada, and party figures that "our battle is to cancel the domination of Hezbollah and Iran and Michel Aoun. A member of the Hezbollah bloc, Representative Hassan Fadlallah, said that "the resistance does not compete for authority or parliamentary seats." In Tripoli in the north, the candidate saw within the list of "Lebanon for us" former MP Mustafa Alloush, that (Hezbollah) is interested in the elections, and he is seeking to enter our region against our will ... "He said during a popular meeting in the Bab al -Tabbaneh area:" I found it is our duty to restore nomination again to re -represent the city and the people in it, and not to hand over our decision and our destiny to the people who abused us and the city and put our youth in prisons and our toxins of terrorists, and traded over our backs.

* A popular pressure campaign in the Southern Suburbs of Beirut on the Shiite Duo (Hezbollah and Amal Movement) on one side, and on the Lebanese state on another, led to a continuous security campaign led by different security apparatuses. The campaign led to the arrest of dozens of wanted people, for theft, burglary, drug trade, and then reached the phase of pursuing all people involved in illegal activity. After illegal activity increased, movement in the community decreased to avoid theft. This caused people in the community to establish a self-security system through the use of social media to report crimes to each other, and then later to security apparatus after the announcement of the campaign. The campaign asked the parents in the community  to control the youth in their household that are committing illegal activity to avoid the harsh retaliation by both security apparatus and people within the community.

* Ali Bouseida, a 23-year old Libyan activist, sees that their regions (nearing the Algerian border) suffer under marginalization and unfairness by all governments up until now. He stated that while oil wells exist in their city, they suffer from minimal government services due to their refusal to use oil as a bargaining chip with the warring political factions. Oil wells get shut down as a form of political protest or labor protest or security threat, which deprives Libyans of their main source of income, as oil revenue constitutes 98% of Libyan wealth. Bouseida emphasized that the use of oil wells as pressure on Libyan governments only increases the suffering of the people, which he fears will get worse this summer due to the shutting down of al-Sharara and al-Fil oil fields.

* ظهرت حركة سياسية شبابية جديدة في السويداء في سوريا، والتي تضم 46 امرأة والشباب من أولئك الذين لديهم كفاءات علمية ونشطاء في المجتمع. تهدف الحركات هو حل جميع القضايا التي تواجه سوريا اليوم. ولم تأخذ الحركة بعد موقفها في السياسة السورية، كما يبدو أنها تتخلى عن فكرة أو ضدها. إنهم يعتقدون أنه مع عدم وجود الهويات السياسية والجماعات الفكرية المنظمة والميليشيات ومجموعات المجتمع المدني التي ترعاها أجنبي.

* أكد رئيس "اللقاء الديمقراطي" النائب تيمور جنبلاط خلال جولة على عدة قرى وبلدات في الشوف إلى جانب النائب المستقيل مروان حمادة، وشخصيات حزبية أن "معركتنا هي من أجل استرداد البلد من أيدي حزب الله وإيران، وسنخوض كل المواجهات في الانتخابات وبعدها كي نسترد الدولة التي خطفها (حزب الله) وإيران وميشال عون". وقال عضو كتلة حزب الله النائب حسن فضل الله إن "المقاومة لا تنافس على سلطة ولا على مقاعد نيابية". وفي طرابلس في الشمال، رأى المرشح ضمن لائحة "لبنان لنا" النائب السابق مصطفى علوش، أن "(حزب الله) مهتم بالانتخابات، وتسعى للدخول إلى منطقتنا رغما عنا..." وقال خلال لقاء شعبي في منطقة باب التبانة: "وجدت أنه من واجبنا إعادة الترشح من جديد لإعادة تمثيل المدينة والناس فيها، وعدم تسليم قرارنا ومصيرنا للأشخاص الذين نكلوا بنا وبالمدينة ‏ووضعوا شبابنا في السجون وسمونا إرهابيين، وتاجروا من فوق ظهورنا".

* أدت حملة الضغط الشعبية في ضواحي بيروت الضغط على الثنائي الشيعي (حزب الله وحركة أمل) من جهة، وعلى الدولة اللبنانية من جانب آخر، إلى حملات أمنية مستمرة التي تقودها أجهزة أمنية مختلفة. وأدت الحملة إلى اعتقال العشرات من الناس المطلوبين، من أجل السرقة، وتجارة المخدرات، ثم وصلت إلى مرحلة متابعة جميع الأشخاص المشاركين في النشاط غير القانوني. وبعد زيادة النشاط غير القانوني، انخفضت الحركة في المجتمع لتجنب السرقة. تسبب ذلك في تأسيس الأشخاص في المجتمع على نظام الأمن الذاتي من خلال استخدام وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي للإبلاغ عن جرائم بعضهم البعض، ثم في وقت لاحق إلى جهاز الأمن بعد الإعلان عن الحملة. وطلبت الحملة من الأهالي في المجتمع السيطرة على الشباب في أسرهم الذين يرتكبون نشاطا غير قانوني لتجنب الانتقام القاسي من خلال كل من الأجهزة الأمنية والأشخاص داخل المجتمع.

* يرى علي بوسيدة، الناشط الليبي البالغ من العمر 23 عاما، أن المناطق الليبية (على مقربة من الحدود الجزائرية) تعاني من تهميش وظلم من قبل جميع الحكومات حتى الآن. وذكر أنه على الرغم من وجود آبار النفط في مدينتهم، إلا أنهم يعانون من الحد الأدنى من الخدمات الحكومية بسبب رفضهم استخدام النفط كرقاقة مساومة مع الفصائل السياسية المتحاربة. وتغلق آبار النفط كشكل من أشكال الاحتجاج السياسي أو الاحتجاج العمالي أو تهديد أمني، الذي يحرم الليبيين بمصدر دخلهم الرئيسي، حيث يشكل إيرادات النفط 98٪ من الثروة الليبية. أكد بوسيدة أن استخدام آبار النفط كضغط على الحكومات الليبية يزيد فقط من معاناة الناس، والتي يخشى أن يزداد سوءًا هذا الصيف بسبب إغلاق حقول زيت الشرارة والفل.

Economics and Entrepreneurship

* Jordanian finance minister said that the government had already prepared 13 months’ worth of wheat reserves, prior to the Ukrainian war. As well as "locked long-term fuel contracts" to help reduce the country's import bill. Jordan was well-prepared for this crisis as stated during a discussion with the IMF. The IMF's progressions for the region sowed high inflation as well as a fuel crisis and a decrease in disposable income. He also stated that an alarming one in every two Jordanian youth was unemployed, and emphasized the need to protect this group during the crisis. This comes with the IMF-backed reforms to maintain a fiscal consolidation focused on revenue collection by broadening the tax base. These reforms are being made in line with demands by civil society for equitable tax treatment. 

* As demand for natural gas increases due to the Russian-Ukrainian war, Algeria missed an opportunity to begin providing to the European market. Algeria is Europe's third largest supplier of natural gas; however, the North African nation does not possess enough readily available gas to satiate the demand. This is primarily due to the lack of oil companies' investment in the Algerian gas, due to the difficult fiscal terms and bureaucracy. Political risk consultant Anthony Skinner stated that "Algeria missed an opportunity to realize its full potential". Algeria's state-owned oil and gas company Sonatrach and Italian multinational Eni signed a deal last week to increase output. Algeria benefitted last year from the increase in gas and oil prices, with revenue amounting to $35 billion. This allowed the country to avoid the unpopular tax increase plans, introduce unemployment benefits. By focusing on the gas and oil industry, Algeria could elevate social grievances, particularly among the country's youth.

الاقتصاد وريادة الأعمال

* قال وزير المالية الأردني إن الحكومة قد أعدت بالفعل 13 شهرا من احتياطيات القمح، قبل الحرب الأوكرانية. وكذلك "عقود الوقود طويلة الأجل مقفلة" للمساعدة في تقليل فاتورة استيراد البلاد. كان الأردن مستعدا جيدا لهذه الأزمة كما ذكر خلال مناقشة مع صندوق النقد الدولي. أدت سياسات صندوق النقد الدولي في المنطقة إلى تضخم عالي بالإضافة إلى أزمة الوقود وانخفاض في الدخل المتاح. وذكر أيضا أن واحد من كل شابين أردنيين عاطل عن العمل، وهي نسبة خطيرة جدا. وأكد على ضرورة حماية هذه المجموعة خلال الأزمة. ويأتي هذا مع الإصلاحات التي تدعمها صندوق النقد الدولي للحفاظ على توحيد شافيا يركز على جمع الإيرادات من خلال توسيع قاعدة الضرائب. يتم إجراء هذه الإصلاحات تمشيا مع مطالب المجتمع المدني بالمعاملة الضريبية العادلة.

Conflict

* Despite promises to deescalate in the final 10 days of Ramadan, Israeli forces invaded Al-Aqsa compound due to the Palestinian flag being raised over the dome and a few dozen worshippers chanting. The director of Al-Aqsa mosque stated that many methods were taken by Israeli authority to prevent the worshippers from reaching the mosque for Friday prayer. The total number reached upwards of 150 thousand, although the expected number was 300 thousand, which is the usual for the 3rd Friday of Ramadan. The invasion began in the early hours of dawn to breakup marches that were made to the mosque for Fajr prayer. Then, tear gas was fired prior to Friday prayer and after, because Palestinian youth were raising Palestinian flags, as well as flags of Hamas. Many Israeli members of parliament stated that they feel the government was being too lenient with the Palestinians. The Israeli forces stated that they acted with strict self-control and attempted to limit clashes, but the extremists from Hamas were adamant on turning the prayer into a protest. Palestinians responded by saying that Israel is adamant on forcing its occupational legitimacy on Muslim Jerusalemites, and that it does not care for places of prayer and acts as it wishes to prove that it is the legitimate owner of Al-Aqsa. Witnesses of the invasion stated that Israeli forces aimed their guns, armed with rubberized bullets, at mosque guards, disregarding the presence of women, children and elderly. In Ramallah, the minister of foreign affairs and immigrants condemned the invasion of Al-Aqsa for the eighth consecutive day. The ministry placed the blame completely on the Israeli government for escalation and what it means for the conflict at hand. He addressed the statements made by Israeli officials claiming that they are "lies used to underestimate the minds of leaders and global decision makers and global public opinion. The Palestinian Red Crescent in Jerusalem stated that 26 cases of choking occurred due to the tear gas fired into Al-Aqsa compound, 9 of whom were children. A total of 57 injuries came from the clashes. Multiple towns in the West Bank were witness to weekly, peaceful marches that were met by Israeli aggression, as 4 young men were shot with rubberized bullets, and dozens of cases of choking from tear gas used to suppress the marches. The Red Crescent stated that there were 37 cases of choking in Beit Dejn, 7 cases in the town of Beita in Jabal Sbeih. Israeli forces arrested 9 young men in different campaigns as a result of the clashes. 

* Palestinian youth is killed Friday at dawn due to injuries sustained a week prior in Al-Yamoun town, west of Jenin in north of the West Bank. The injuries came as a result of marches organized in different parts of Palestine as response to the suppression of worshippers in al-Aqsa mosque.

* 12 Palestinian youth arrested as an intimidation attempt for wearing the Palestinian keffiyeh.

* 39 Youth who lost in 2008 are not in Tunisia, as they mentioned the Algerian authority. The young group of males disappeared after an illegal attempt at immigrating to Europe through the eastern city of Annaba. The mother of one of the youth stated that her son called her from Tunisia after he was apprehended by the Italian coastguard who handed them over to the Tunisian coastguard. The case was brought up again after a trial against the youth was brought in Tunisian court, which turned out to be false. The Algerian authority stated that the close ties between the two states are built on trust and the sense of responsibility. Tunisia responded to these allegations, originally in 2008 and once again now, by stating that there are no apprehended Algerians in its prisons, and the Algerian ambassador to Tunisia stated that based on the information they have, they can neither confirm nor deny the presence of the group in Tunisia. Italy has not since made a statement or commented on the accusation or events.

* قتل شاب فلسطيني يوم الجمعة في الفجر بسبب الإصابات التي لحقت قبل أسبوع في بلدة اليمون، غرب جنين في شمال الضفة الغربية. وجاءت الإصابات نتيجة المسيرات المنظمة في أجزاء مختلفة من فلسطين كاستجابة لقمع المصلين في المسجد الأقصى.

* اعتقلت قوات الاحتلال الإسرائيلية 12 شبابا فلسطينيا بمثابة محاولة تخويف لارتدائها الكوفية الفلسطينية.

* Dr. Jumana Al-Salem, during her participation in the Atheer Al-Sabah program through the Jordanian Arabic Language Radio Complex, stated that Jordanian women have opportunities in many fields, under the umbrella of religious legislation and the protection of the constitution and the royal sponsorship from the highest levels. She added from the lecture she gave during the Arab Thought Forum about the main problems that youth face: emptiness, unemployment, blind imitation, among others. She called to facing these issues and finding solutions for them, especially since youth are the largest portion of Jordanian society. 

* More than 400 young men and women took the streets in Riyadh, in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, before iftar giving food and water to passersby who would be late to iftar due to work hours. Youth in KSA complete about 1600 hours of volunteer work in 22 districts giving meals to passersby and the vulnerable.

* UAE Media Forum specified 3 topics to focus on in order to develop the sector and keep up with the developments taking place in the local, Arabian and global media fields. The seventh edition of the forum focused on developing a strong and influential media message that can keep up with the next phase the country is entering in the next 50 years. The participants presented the efforts to prepare new generations of young Emirati media specialists that are capable of dealing with the new era properly. The forum showed the space given to journalists and media specialists to present their skills in the Emirates. The need to sponsor and support talents in the country to escape the traditional molds was emphasized. The use of social media and new methods for data collection was also supported.

* ذكرت الدكتورة جمانة السالم، أثناء مشاركتها في برنامج أثير الصباح من خلال مجمع اللغات العربية الأردنية، أن النساء الأردني لهن لديه فرص في العديد من المجالات، تحت مظلة التشريعات الدينية وحماية الدستور والرجل رعاية من أعلى المستويات. وأضافت من المحاضرة التي أعطتها خلال منتدى الفكر العربي حول المشاكل الرئيسية التي يواجهها الشباب، والتي تشمل في المقام الأول: الفراغ والبطالة، التقليد الأعمى، من بين أمور أخرى. ودعت إلى مواجهة هذه القضايا وإيجاد حلول لهم، خاصة وأن الشباب هم أكبر جزء من المجتمع الأردني.

* توجه أكثر من 400 شاب وشابوا في الشوارع في الرياض، في المملكة العربية السعودية، قبل الإفطار لتوزيع الطعام والماء على المارة الذين سيكون متأخرين عن الإفطار بسبب ساعات العمل. أكمل الشباب في المملكة العربية السعودية حوالي 1600 ساعة من العمل التطوعي في 22 منطقة من خلال توزيع وجبات الطعام إلى المارة والمحتاجين.

* حدد منتدى إعلام الإمارات العربية المتحدة 3 موضوعات للتركيز عليها من أجل تطوير القطاع ومواكبة التطورات التي تجري في المجالات المحلية والعربية والعالمية. ركز الإصدار السابع من المنتدى على تطوير رسالة إعلامية قوية ومؤثرة يمكنها مواكبة المرحلة التالية التي تدخلها البلد في السنوات الخمسين القادمة. وقدم المشاركون الجهود المبذولة لإعداد أجيال جديدة من المتخصصين في الإعلام الإماراتيين الشباب القادرين على التعامل مع الحقبة الجديدة بشكل صحيح. أظهر المنتدى الفضاء الممنوح للصحفيين ومتخصصي وسائل الإعلام لتقديم مهاراتهم في الإمارات. وتم التأكيد على الحاجة إلى رعاية ويدعم المواهب في البلاد للهروب من القوالب التقليدية. كما تم دعم استخدام وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي والأساليب الجديدة لجمع البيانات أيضا.

Education

* The Police Academy organized two training sessions for students and graduates of Egyptian universities in cooperation with the Ministry of Youth and Sports at the headquarters of the Center for Security Studies and Strategy at the Police Research Center under the title of the youth insurance against the risks of modern technology and social networking sites. Students from the University of the Suess Canal and University of Kafr al-Sheikh participated in both sessions.

* نظمت أكاديمية الشرطة دورتين تدريبيتين للطلاب وخريجي الجامعات المصرية بالتعاون مع وزارة الشباب والرياضة في مقر مركز الدراسات والاستراتيجية الأمنية في مركز أبحاث الشرطة تحت عنوان تأمين الشباب ضد مخاطر التكنولوجيا الحديثة ومواقع الشبكات الاجتماعية. شارك الطلاب من جامعة قناة سويس وجامعة كفر الشيخ في كلتا الدورتين.

Environment

* Dr. Sharifa Sharif, Executive Director of the National Institute for Sustainable Ruling and Sustainable Development - the training arm of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development - and a member of the CEPA Public Administration Committee of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations; In the youth forum of the Council and the "recovery of Covid-19: take the youth actions for a sustainable future," through the side event entitled "Support gender equality to combat climate change." During her speech, Dr. Sharif confirmed the importance of promoting youth's participation in order to ensure compatibility with their needs, noting the importance of investing in young people that indicate that we are on the right path towards achieving 2030 goals. Sharif referred to activities and initiatives that promote the agenda 2030, including a movement Arab youth climate from Lebanon, the butterfly project from India, and the Initiative of Sustainable Development Ambassadors "Be ambassador" from Egypt, explaining that 60% of Egypt's 104 million people are young under the age of 5. Dr. Sharif said an ambassador's initiative was a model that takes into account gender disparities and aimed at building national capacities through pilot learning in sustainable development. Sherif explained that the initiative provided for in the first batch of about 7,000 young men, noted that he graduated from about 1,000 trainees between the ages of 18 and 35 representing governmental and private universities and civil society in all governorates. Noting that the second batch, which will start next June, aims to train 1,000 other young men, and has yet to have about 3,000 young men and women.

* The World Bank approved a 2-year Qatari initiative for Yemen, with the aim of preserving its institutions that provide the people with services and food security. The intervention will be done through different possible scenarios, with an emphasis on providing necessary services and human capital and food security, and employment opportunities. The program will allocate $2.8 billion as an investment for development in Yemen, to guarantee a better future for Yemeni youth that grew up in war, but will be an essential player in the recovery process.

Politics and Political Engagement

* The King Abdullah II Fund for Development, in Jordan, launched the partisan culture project with the aim of activating channels of communication between parties and youth group as a practical step to contribute to motivating young people to participate in partisan work. The project also looks to provide an institutional framework for spreading the culture of partisan work. The project is expected to bring together Jordanian youth and party leaders, by providing logistical support to parties wishing to participate in order to allow them to present their messages, programs, and ideas to a new youth group in the various governorates of the Jordan. It also aims to motivate youth groups in a practical and direct way to participate in partisanship by reviewing the available partisan options, in addition to motivating the parties to reconsider their internal structures, systems, and mechanisms and the need to move towards new societal groups that have the ability to bring about the required change. 

* The Secretary-General of the Tunisian Republican Party, Issam Chebbi, said that Tunisia has not yet entered the electoral period and still needs to save its democratic path, return to the constitutional path, and agree on a national road map and not the President’s political agenda. Chebbi considered that the referendum and the elections are two dates the president has set according to his political plan, stating that they do not respond to the political, economic, and social crises facing Tunisia. Chebbi also considered that Tunisia needs a national dialogue, a national plan for salvation, the formation of a national salvation government, and agreement on political reforms, and election dates and laws regulating the political process.

* The Ministry of Youth in Libya announced the reopening of candidacy for the Libyan Youth Parliament in its first edition. The Libyan Youth Parliament is a simulation of the legislative authority, which will comprise of 200 young men and women from various regions and cities of Libya. The Ministry identified three main conditions that must be met by those who wish to run for membership, which are: they must be at least 17 years old and not older than 25 years old at the time of their candidacy, not be a member of the Supreme Committee organizing the elections, and adhere to the rules set by the Supreme Committee for Candidates.

* Mohammed Abu Dalhoum wrote an article for Arab News in which he discusses the importance of increasing investment in the youth human capital as means to increase productivity and respond to the economic challenges, which youth are their biggest victims. The president of MENAACTION indicates that the Arab World’s current composite score for the level of investment in youth human capital stands at 43.2%, which is comprised of political inclusion, economic inclusion, social inclusion, and investment in tertiary education. Such a percentage has been dwindling with a decrease in state spending on the youth sector between 2020 and 2022. He indicates that it is important for policymakers to give effective attention and place proper investment in these avenues, which contribute directly to the development of youth as active players and stakeholders in the political, economic, and social systems of their countries.

* In Morocco, third session of the mobile parliament convoy was launched, during which elected representatives unanimously agreed on the importance of the project, which is being implemented by the parallel youth government in the various regions of Morocco. The project looks to build the capacities of young Moroccans in the field of analyzing and monitoring public policies, as well as providing them with the opportunity to simulate the Moroccan Parliament. During this session, which was launched on Saturday in Marrakesh by the parallel government of youth, in partnership with the Friedrich Naumann Foundation, to train 50 young men and women from all regions of Morocco, the head of the Marrakech district council stressed the importance of this initiative, which It will contribute to developing the capacities of young people at the territorial and parliamentary levels.

السياسة والاندماج السياسي

* أطلق صندوق الملك عبد الله الثاني للتنمية في الأردن مشروع الثقافة الحزبية بهدف تفعيل قنوات التواصل بين الأحزاب والفئات الشبابية كخطوة عملية للمساهمة في تحفيز الشباب للمشاركة في العمل الحزبي. كما يسعى المشروع إلى توفير إطار مؤسسي لنشر ثقافة العمل الحزبي. ومن المتوقع أن يجمع المشروع بين الشباب الأردني وقادة الأحزاب، وذلك من خلال تقديم الدعم اللوجستي للأحزاب السياسية الراغبة في المشاركة ضمن المشروع من أجل السماح لهم بتقديم رسائلهم وبرامجهم وأفكارهم إلى مجموعة شبابية جديدة في مختلف محافظات الأردن. كما يهدف المشروع إلى تحفيز الفئات الشبابية بشكل عملي ومباشر للمشاركة في العمل الحزبي من خلال مراجعة الخيارات الحزبية المتاحة لهم، بالإضافة إلى تحفيز الأحزاب على إعادة النظر في هياكلها وأنظمتها وآلياتها الداخلية، بالإضافة إلى ضرورة التحرك نحو مجموعات مجتمعية جديدة لديهم القدرة على إحداث التغيير المطلوب.

 

* قال الأمين العام للحزب الجمهوري التونسي عصام الشابي، إن تونس لم تدخل المرحلة الانتخابية بعد وما زالت بحاجة لإنقاذ مسارها الديمقراطي والعودة إلى المسار الدستوري والاتفاق على خارطة طريق وطنية وليس فقط جدول أعمال سياسية رئيس الجمهورية. واعتبر الشابي أن الاستفتاء والانتخابات تاريخان حددهما الرئيس وفق خطته السياسية، موضحًا أنهما لا يستجيبان للأزمات السياسية والاقتصادية والاجتماعية التي تواجه تونس. كما اعتبر الشابي أن تونس بحاجة إلى حوار وطني وخطة وطنية للخلاص وتشكيل حكومة إنقاذ وطني واتفاق على إصلاحات سياسية ومواعيد انتخابات وقوانين تنظم العملية السياسية.

 

* أعلنت وزارة الشباب في ليبيا، إعادة فتح باب الترشح لبرلمان الشباب الليبي في نسخته الأولى. برلمان الشباب الليبي هو مشروع محاكاة للسلطة التشريعية، وستضم 200 شاب وشابة من مختلف المناطق والمدن الليبية. وحددت الوزارة ثلاثة شروط أساسية يجب أن يستوفيها الراغبون في الترشح للعضوية، وهي: ألا يقل عمرهم عن 17 عامًا ولا يزيد عن 25 عامًا وقت ترشيحهم، وألا يكون عضوًا في اللجنة العليا المنظمة للانتخابات، وأخيرا أن يتقيدوا بالقواعد التي تضعها اللجنة العليا للمرشحين.

* كتب محمد أبو دلهوم مقالاً في صحيفة "عرب نيوز" يناقش فيه أهمية زيادة الاستثمار في رأس المال البشري للشباب كوسيلة لزيادة الإنتاجية والاستجابة للتحديات الاقتصادية التي يكون الشباب أكبر ضحاياها. يشير رئيس منظمة مينا أكشن إلى أن المعدل الحالي في العالم العربي لمستوى الاستثمار في رأس المال البشري للشباب يبلغ 43.2٪، والتي تتألف من الإدماج السياسي، والاندماج الاقتصادي، والاندماج الاجتماعي، والاستثمار في التعليم العالي. وقد تضاءلت هذه النسبة مع انخفاض الإنفاق الحكومي على قطاع الشباب بين عامي 2020 و 2022. ويشير أبو دلهوم أيضا إلى أنه من المهم لصانعي السياسات إيلاء الاهتمام الفعال والاستثمار المناسب في هذه المجالات المهمة، والذي بدوره يساهم بشكل مباشر في تنمية الشباب كلاعبين فاعلين وأصحاب مصالح في الأنظمة السياسية والاقتصادية والاجتماعية لبلدانهم.

 

* في المغرب، انطلقت الدورة الثالثة للقافلة البرلمانية المتنقلة، اتفق خلالها النواب المنتخبون بالإجماع على أهمية المشروع الذي تنفذه حكومة الشباب الموازية في مختلف مناطق المغرب. ويهدف المشروع إلى بناء قدرات الشباب المغربي في مجال تحليل ومراقبة السياسات العامة، فضلا عن تزويدهم بفرصة محاكاة البرلمان المغربي. وبدوره أكد رئيس مجلس منطقة مراكش، خلال هذه الدورة، التي انطلقت يوم السبت في مراكش من قبل حكومة الشباب الموازية، بالشراكة مع مؤسسة فريدريش ناومان، وذلك لتدريب 50 شابا وشابة من جميع جهات المغرب، على أهمية هذه المبادرة التي ستساهم في تنمية قدرات الشباب على المستوى الإقليمي والبرلماني.

Economics and Entrepreneurship

* Dr. Sidi Ould Eltah, Director General of the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa, said that supporting small and medium enterprises and entrepreneurship among youth and women is the cornerstone of economic and social development in Africa. Dr. Ould Eltah indicated that the bank had recently launched an initiative to support small and medium-sized enterprises in Africa, which is a special support for entrepreneurship in Africa with a focus on women and youth. He explained that the surveys carried out by the bank and the extensive consultations it held with all the actors in the African economic arena showed the utmost importance of these small and medium enterprises and entrepreneurship.

* A report by “Al-Akhbar” newspaper states that 90% of Lebanese university degree holders want to emigrate due to the economic and financial crises, as 67.5% has already decided to emigrate without any return to their country. The study also underlines that this issue has been pressing in Lebanon for years. In fact, in a World Bank study from 2010, there were approximately 50,000 job seekers in Lebanon annually, competing for just 3,000 new jobs. Over the past decade, there have been more entrants into the labor market, more university degree holders, and increasing unemployment rates – particularly among youth, yet the governments’ ability to create jobs has stayed the same.

* Huawei announced the winners of its 2021 Seeds for the Future (SFTF) competition. The winning teams from UAE University, the University of Dubai, and the American University of Ras Al Khaimah were announced. Huawei's Seeds for the Future program aims to bridge the talent gap that exists in the technology sector today by involving students, academics, and various other stakeholders in building a stronger and more sustainable technology ecosystem in the region.

* The Moroccan government announced a program called "Forsa" to encourage young people to work in startups. The program targets 10,000 project holders in all sectors of the economy, while ensuring proper equality between regional and gender groups. The government took the initiative to launch this program, taking into account the difficulties faced by young people in accessing sources of finance, and the obstacles faced by very small businesses.

الاقتصاد وريادة الأعمال

* قال الدكتور سيدي ولد التاه، مدير عام المصرف العربي لتنمية الاقتصاد في إفريقيا، إن دعم المشاريع الصغيرة والمتوسطة وريادة الأعمال بين الشباب والنساء هو جوهر التنمية الاقتصادية والاجتماعية في إفريقيا. وأشار الدكتور ولد التاه إلى أن المصرف العربي لتنمية الاقتصاد في افريقيا أطلق مؤخرا مبادرة لدعم المشاريع الصغيرة والمتوسطة في أفريقيا، وهي دعم خاص لريادة الأعمال في أفريقيا مع التركيز على النساء والشباب. وأوضح أن المسوحات التي أجراها البنك والمشاورات المكثفة التي أجراها مع كافة الفاعلين في الساحة الاقتصادية الإفريقية أظهرت الأهمية القصوى لهذه المشروعات الصغيرة والمتوسطة وريادة الأعمال.

* أفاد تقرير لصحيفة "الأخبار" أن 90٪ من حملة الشهادات الجامعية اللبنانية يريدون الهجرة بسبب الأزمات الاقتصادية والمالية، حيث قرر 67.5٪ الهجرة دون عودة إلى بلادهم. كما تؤكد الدراسة أن هذه القضية كانت ملحة في لبنان منذ سنوات. ففي واقع الأمر، كشفت دراسة أجراها البنك الدولي عام 2010 أنه كان هناك ما يقرب من 50000 باحث عن عمل في لبنان سنويًا، يتنافسون على 3000 وظيفة جديدة فقط. وعلى مدى العقد الماضي، كان هناك المزيد من الداخلين إلى سوق العمل، والمزيد من حاملي الشهادات الجامعية، بينما ما زالت معدلات البطالة في ارتفاع - لا سيما بين الشباب، ومع ذلك ظلت قدرة الحكومات المتلاحقة على خلق فرص العمل كما هي.

* أعلنت الحكومة المغربية عن برنامج بعنوان "فرصة" لتشجيع الشباب على العمل في المقاولات الناشئة. ويستهدف البرنامج 10000 صاحب مشروع في جميع قطاعات الاقتصاد، مع ضمان المساواة المناسبة بين المجموعات الإقليمية وما بين الجنسين. وبادرت الحكومة بإطلاق هذا البرنامج، مع مراعاة الصعوبات التي يواجهها الشباب في الوصول إلى مصادر التمويل، والعقبات التي تواجه الشركات الصغيرة جدًا.

Conflict

* Ayman Odeh, an Arab member of the Israeli Knesset urged all Arab citizens of Israeli who are serving its occupation forces to quit, calling their service “humiliating” and “disgraceful”. Odeh called on the 1 to 1.5% Arab members of the occupation forces to quit, calling them a disgrace and part of the crime, rather than being on the side of their people to end the occupation. 

* On Thursday evening, a Palestinian citizen from the town of Beita died of wounds sustained by the Israeli occupation forces. This raised the number of Palestinians who were killed by the occupation forces to 6 in just 24 hours.

* Several reports indicated that Israeli occupation forces clashed with students in the vicinity of Al-Quds University in the town of Abu Dis, east of Jerusalem. Dozens of students suffocated as a result of inhaling tear gas fired by the Israeli occupation army inside and around the university campus. This occupation forces were suppressing a peaceful student-led demonstration against the transgressions carried out by the occupation forces in Jerusalem in the Al-Aqsa Mosque Complex.

* Palestinians were wounded by the Israeli occupation bullets, at least one of them with live ammunition, and dozens of cases of suffocation, during the attacks of the occupation forces in the occupied West Bank. In Hebron, a young man was injured by live bullets, and dozens suffocated with poisonous and tear gas, during the occupation’s suppression of a march in support of prisoners on the occasion of the Palestinian Prisoner’s Day. The occupation forces stormed a mosque east of Hebron and severely beat a child. Further, the Israeli occupation forces stormed the village of Al-Nabi Saleh, northwest of Ramallah, chasing down Palestinian youth in the streets of the village.

* The Israeli occupation authorities released dozens of young men who had been arrested on Friday, on bail of a third party and with restrictive conditions, including deportation from Al-Aqsa during the month of Ramadan. The occupation police also extended the detention of dozens of young men from Al-Aqsa Mosque detainees for a period of 48 hours, while releasing 350 on the terms of their expulsion from Al-Aqsa and Old Jerusalem. Lawyer Firas Al-Jebreni, from the Wadi Hilweh Information Center in Silwan, stated that the occupation police extended the detention of about 120 Palestinian detainees for 48 hours, out of 470 detainees, as the police transferred them to various prisons.

* The Tunisian Prime Minister Najla Bouden met with Gilles Kepel, the special envoy of French President Emmanuel Macron, in which they discussed cooperation in the field of protecting youth against violent extremism. Bouden stressed the role of the Tunisian government in reducing social disparities through educational reforms, particularly at the university level. She also underlined the importance of training youth "to facilitate their integration into professional life, their involvement in society, and protect them against the dangers of violent extremism and irregular migration."

* حث أيمن عودة، عضو الكنيست الإسرائيلي العربي، جميع المواطنين العرب في إسرائيل الذين يخدمون ضمن قوات الاحتلال الإسرائيلي على الاستقالة، واصفا خدمتهم بـ "المهينة" و "المخزية". ودعا عودة ما نسبته 1 إلى 1.5٪ من العرب في قوات الاحتلال إلى الانسحاب، واصفاً إياهم بالعار وجزء من الجريمة، بدلاً من الوقوف إلى جانب شعبهم لإنهاء الاحتلال.

* استشهد مساء الخميس مواطن فلسطيني من سكان بلدة بيتا متأثرا بجراحه التي أصيب بها على يد قوات الاحتلال. وبهذا يرتفع عدد الشهداء الفلسطينيين على أيدي قوات الاحتلال إلى ستة خلال 24 ساعة فقط.

* أشارت عدة تقارير إلى وقوع اشتباكات بين قوات الاحتلال الإسرائيلي وطلاب فلسطينيين في محيط جامعة القدس في بلدة أبو ديس شرقي القدس المحتلة. وأصيب العشرات من الطلاب بحالات اختناق جراء استنشاقهم الغاز المسيل للدموع الذي أطلقه جيش الاحتلال الإسرائيلي داخل الحرم الجامعي ومحيطه. وقامت قوات الاحتلال بقمع مظاهرة طلابية سلمية احتجاجا على تجاوزات قوات الاحتلال في القدس في مجمع المسجد الأقصى المبارك.

* أصيب فلسطينيون برصاص الاحتلال، أحدهم على الأقل بالرصاص الحي، بالإضافة إلى عشرات حالات الاختناق، خلال اعتداءات قوات الاحتلال في الضفة الغربية المحتلة. وفي مدينة الخليل، أصيب شاب بالرصاص الحي، وأصيب العشرات بالاختناق بالغازات السامة والمسيل للدموع، وذلك خلال قمع الاحتلال لمسيرة دعم للأسرى بمناسبة يوم الأسير الفلسطيني. اقتحمت قوات الاحتلال مسجدا شرق الخليل واعتدت بالضرب المبرح على طفل. كما اقتحمت قوات الاحتلال الإسرائيلي قرية النبي صالح، شمال غربي مدينة رام الله، وقامت بمطاردة شبان فلسطينيين في شوارع القرية.

* أفرجت سلطات الاحتلال الإسرائيلي عن عشرات الشبان الذين اعتقلوا الجمعة، بكفالة طرف ثالث وبشروط تقييدية، بما في ذلك الترحيل من منطقة المسجد الأقصى خلال شهر رمضان. كما مددت شرطة الاحتلال اعتقال عشرات الشبان من معتقلي المسجد الأقصى لمدة 48 ساعة، فيما أفرجت عن 350 شابا بشروط طردهم من الأقصى والقدس القديمة. وقال المحامي فراس الجبريني، من مركز معلومات وادي حلوة بسلوان، إن شرطة الاحتلال مددت اعتقال نحو 120 فلسطينيا لمدة 48 ساعة من أصل 470 معتقلا، حيث نقلتهم الشرطة إلى سجون مختلفة في مناطق مختلفة.

* التقت رئيسة الوزراء التونسية نجلاء بودن مع المبعوث الخاص للرئيس الفرنسي إيمانويل ماكرون جيل كيبيل، حيث بحثا التعاون في مجال حماية الشباب من التطرف العنيف. وشدد بودن على دور الحكومة التونسية في تقليص الفوارق الاجتماعية من خلال إصلاحات في المنظومة التعليمية وخاصة على المستوى الجامعي. وشددت بودن على أهمية تدريب الشباب "لتسهيل اندماجهم في الحياة المهنية وانخراطهم في المجتمع وحمايتهم من مخاطر التطرف العنيف والهجرة غير النظامية".

* The King Abdulaziz Center for National Dialogue in the Northern Borders Region, in Saudi Arabia, organized a symposium entitled “The Role of Youth in the Process of Social Change.” The symposium discussed the activation of youth participation in public life, the most important characteristic of youth as a collective force for change, the needs of youth, and the role of youth in volunteer work.

* BBC reported on a humanitarian initiative implemented by an Egyptian young man in Poland. The Egyptian youth, Reda, was on a tourist trip in northeastern Europe before he heard of the different treatment Ukrainian refugees were receiving compared to some Arab students after they left Ukraine. Reda traveled to Poland, rented several rooms in a hostel, and began receiving Arab students, cooking for them and helping them to return to their countries. The Egyptian Red Crescent contacted him to start cooperation between them.

* نظم مركز الملك عبد العزيز للحوار الوطني في منطقة الحدود الشمالية بالمملكة العربية السعودية ندوة بعنوان "دور الشباب في عملية التغيير الاجتماعي". وناقشت الندوة تفعيل مشاركة الشباب في الحياة العامة، وأهم ما يميز الشباب كقوة جماعية للتغيير، واحتياجات الشباب، ودور الشباب في العمل التطوعي.

* تحدثت البي بي سي عن مبادرة إنسانية نفذها شاب مصري في بولندا. وكان الشاب المصري، رضا، في رحلة سياحية في شمال شرق أوروبا قبل أن يسمع عن المعاملة المختلفة التي يتلقاها اللاجئون الأوكرانيون مقارنة ببعض الطلاب العرب بعد مغادرتهم أوكرانيا. فعندها سافر رضا إلى بولندا، واستأجر عدة غرف في نزل، وبدأ في استقبال الطلاب العرب، والطهي لهم ومساعدتهم على العودة إلى بلادهم. وبعدها اتصل به الهلال الأحمر المصري لبدء التعاون بينهما.

Education

* A recent study in Morocco revealed the negative effects of arrest on young people who commit minor misdemeanors, as it leads to dropping out of schools. The study, which was carried out by the Adalah Association for the Right to a Fair Trial, revealed that the youth convicted of minor misdemeanors find it difficult to find work after their release. The same study indicates that the possibility of education and training inside prisons remains limited, noting that more than half of the detainees are young people. According to official statistics, 51% of prison inmates in Morocco are under the age of 40. 

* The Progressive Youth Organization and the Progressive Meeting of University Professors, in Lebanon, held a symbolic protest in response to the state’s failure to carry out its duties towards the university’s budget, which now does not meet even the logistical needs. The protest also called on the government to save the Mutual Fund, which secures health care and adequate social benefits for all university professors, in light of the worsening economic and financial situation.

* كشفت دراسة حديثة في المغرب عن الآثار السلبية للاعتقال على الشباب الذين يرتكبون جنح بسيطة، حيث يؤدي بهم الأمر إلى ترك دراساتهم. وكشفت الدراسة التي أجرتها جمعية عدالة للحق في المحاكمة العادلة، أن الشباب المحكوم عليهم بجنح صغيرة يجدون صعوبة في العثور على عمل بعد الإفراج عنهم. وتشير الدراسة ذاتها إلى أن إمكانية التعليم والتدريب داخل السجون ما زالت محدودة، مشيرة إلى أن أكثر من نصف المعتقلين هم من الشباب. وبحسب الإحصاءات الرسمية فإن 51٪ من نزلاء السجون في المغرب هم دون سن الأربعين.

* نظمت منظمة الشباب التقدمي "اللقاء التقدمي للأساتذة الجامعيين في لبنان احتجاجا رمزيا ردا على تقاعس الدولة عن القيام بواجباتها تجاه ميزانية الجامعة التي لا تلبي حتى الاحتياجات اللوجستية. كما دعا الاحتجاج الحكومة إلى إنقاذ صندوق التعاضد الذي يؤمن الرعاية الصحية والمزايا الاجتماعية الكافية لجميع أساتذة الجامعات، في ظل تدهور الوضع الاقتصادي والمالي.

* Hafed Al-Ghwell wrote for Arab News that the implications of global warming in the Arab world have been mostly dismissed, in a problematic response, particularly that widespread zones of the region are becoming increasingly uninhabitable. Al-Ghwell discusses the various negative impacts that will continue to worsen amid policymakers failure to acknowledge and act on this imminent challenge. He also indicates the region must avoid becoming the first victim of a global climate catastrophe by taking the first steps to implement holistic policies that include empowered citizens, an engaged civil society, local institutions and municipalities, rather than simply throwing money at a looming crisis.

* كتب حافظ الغويل لصحيفة "عرب نيوز" أن تداعيات الاحتباس الحراري في العالم العربي قد تم تجاهلها في الغالب، مشكلة ردود فعل سلبية، لا سيما أن العديد من البؤر المنتشرة في المنطقة أصبحت غير صالحة للسكن. ويناقش الغويل الآثار السلبية المختلفة التي ستستمر في التفاقم وسط فشل صانعي السياسات في الاعتراف بهذا التحدي المهم وسن السياسات المناسبة لمواجهته. كما يشير إلى أن المنطقة يجب أن تتجنب أن تصبح الضحية الأولى لكارثة مناخية عالمية من خلال اتخاذ الخطوات الأولى لتنفيذ سياسات شاملة تشمل المواطنين المتمكنين، والمجتمع المدني المنخرط، والمؤسسات المحلية والبلديات، بدلاً من مجرد صرف الأموال في أزمة تلوح في الأفق.
